They're basically making a brand new freaking MMO with this thing. It will be pushed back to 2011 and I wouldn't mind one bit considering the level of polish blizzard has given us with previous expansions and major patches.
LOL. You're funny.
Lets see, a totally revamped two continents that roughly are the size of an entire new MMO. seven new zones that are the size of your average Expansion, new races an entirely new attribute and mastery progresstion system, 3 BGs, new arena maps, more pvp zones. New class combinations, a ton of raids and dungeons. A new proff, rated Bgs, guild leveling, cross server Lfg and reward system to match.
I'm sorry but that's way more than your average expansion. This expansion is givng more content than most new MMos give. just look at games like TR, Lotro, WAR and AoC this expansion will give more than any two of these games had to offer at launch.
I agree, I wouldn't have expected it any earlier; I imagine there is more than they let on in store for WoW players. Blizzard has a lot to do between now and 2010 and I'd wager that still wont be enough time.
If Blizzard wants to retain subscribers, they will get it out in1Q 2010. The recent patch and streamling everything into Easy mode is going to burn folks out before the end of the year.

The terrain is not guaranteed to change in every zone, many zones are likely going to stay the same terrain-wise but the questing will get the clean up.
Yes, there are technically fewer brand new zones and fewer levels to level up through - but - in return for this there is a much cleaner leveling experience from start to finish and many other things.
If blizzard decided to keep the attribute system the same, and just add in seven zones, new races and level 85 the expansion would be on par with what Outland and Northrend offered. Now that they are revamping/improving leveling from 1-60 even if only a half of the world is changed terrain wise it will still be a massive expansion.

Did it say all zones are being reskinned? Regardless, most of what you offer, just to make your list bigger, has already been done in previous expansions. Adding more onto wow isn't anything close to a new game although I'm sure they love that some people like to think it is since fans are starting to get impatient for one.

They are not a new MMO, they are the same zones with terrain altered.
seven new zones that are the size of your average Expansion,
4 of them being 1-20 starting zones
new races
that are in the game for like "since launch" has npcs, so little to no new coding
an entirely new attribute and mastery progresstion system
Cant say much about it since they havent said much yet
, 3 BGs , new arena maps, more pvp zones.
Probably just revamped existing ones, like the new BG they launched thats just a 2 way Wintergrasp
New class combinations,
Nothing new here, whats the major difference between a night elf hunter and a human hunter at max lvl, and what really did they have new to code?
a ton of raids and dungeons.
Original? Or just another set of rehashed old content? Lets see
A new proff,
Secondary one that awards pets and crap
rated Bgs, guild leveling, cross server Lfg and reward system to match.
The lfg thing can be good yes, but its not base for an expansion. The guild leveling once again, remains to be seen more about

All in all, you will just lvl 5 levels and then, if you want to see new things you have to roll alts, thats hardly a good "expansion" since most of us are already max lvl.
Not to mention flying mounts in Azaroth. Add that to zones that had unused content blocked off by making it too high to reach. They will either have to remove these unused areas or work them into the game.
The terrain is not guaranteed to change in every zone, many zones are likely going to stay the same terrain-wise but the questing will get the clean up.

Reading the things the Blue answered I'm getting the feeling that the old areas aren't going to get revamped only altered.
"The terrain is not guaranteed to change in every zone". Change the terrain like adding a gorge or flooding the area, not revamping the zone.
One more thing, I don't believe we are going to see major changes graphical wise if any. It would have been stupid to lets say move from an fresh and updated Elwynn to the old unchanged Westfall.
LOL, wow, this post is silly and pointless. Unless it's meant to point out slow people trying there hardest to fallow Blizz news.
Of course it's not coming out til 2010! Really I'm surprised it's even coming out then, as long as Wrath took to get released. But then again, Warth introduced a new Hero class and allot more new elements to the game, while Cataclysm, will not.
It's kind of Blizzard's thing to announce a game or expansion WELL before it's release. It plays good on them to get the hype going well in advance, but also gives them lots of time to work on it. If anyone did think there was a possibility Cataclysm was coming out as early as this fall, they're either a major noob when it comes to Blizzard Entertainment, or they're just not very bright at all, and probably shouldn't be playing Blizz's games in the first place. They announced SC2 and D3 some time ago, like at least 2 years ago now and they still aren't out yet. So that there should tell people something, shouldn't it?
If I remember right, Blizz said it's set for a 2010 release on the very first day of BlizzCon 09'. Which was what, 3 days ago???
Were there people thinking it would come out in 2009? Come on, its already usual for Blizzard to take forever to release its expansions
originally Blizzard said at TBC they hoped to do one every year, in WotLK, they retold this that they hoped to get the next expansion out sooner than the wait between those.
with the amazing amount of info, footage etc released so fast (both on the site, and at blizzcon) i guess people assumed most of it was done... and almost ready for beta and a christmas release.
Can't blame people for hoping, there's little else to keep you hooked to WoW at the moment... (lich king people are hoping for next patch after Onyxia which is a reintroduction to Azeroth)
in all seriousness, some of the things in the expansion could easily be released just now to keep people hooked (such as the class mechanism changes) .... although last time i checked my quest was completed about a certain dragons head. Seems she's regrew it recently....

I m someone thats stuck with WoW( with breaks ) but i ve not been happy with the way the games going . I m actually not over impressed the details about this Xpac .
The kind of changes Warcraft needs are at a basic level . For one thing theres very few real challenges in the game anymore . I think this Xpac is Blizzards way of trying to put things right in one big grand revamp. The problem is when you get past the hype are the things that really need changing going to be changed . Its a big gamble and theres an awful lot that could go wrong here if they rush it .This makes me think november 2010 is really a bit optamistic and it will most likly be delayed till spring of 2011 as happened with the burning crusade .
Announcing it now is really to keep players interested and subscribing for the next year and a half in with the promice of whats around the corner even if its a year and a half away . I think theres a lot of concern at Blizzard about Aion this is also part of the reason for the timing of this announcement .
I can honestly say that this is the first time I am finally sad to see a wow expansion. The visuals are great and I agree with the previous poster regarding old world content revisted being very cool. Unfortunately with this expansion comes more stat consolidation, more streamlined talents aka no "uniqueness" as a player, hunter pets are all gonna be the same, etc etc As a veteran MMO player this is a game catering to the casual player and more importantly new subscribers. Heck if I ran Blizzard I would do the same thing so I can't be mad. It reminds me of your favorite band "selling out". The music is still decent but you can never look at them with the same awe and admiration. Goodbye WOW it was a great run we had some great times....
HELLO SITH WARRIOR RAWR!!!!!!
I'm sad that you made an account just to spread miss information.
They are revamping the system to give you MORE options in character customization, they said that about 5 times durring Blizzcon.
They are NOT making everyone more "alike" they are infact making classes VERY different from each other and making ALL talent specs viable and useful. I can't wait.
This is the best idea Blizz has had in a long time.
Actually I made an account because I have been visiting this site since 2005 and just realized that I didn't have an account. Your opinion is yours and mine is mine so I'll eave it at that.
The fact that I haven't really participated on this site is mainly because I have been playing WoW since beta and now I'm bored with it because it is becoming watered down and simplified and if u don't think so then whatever.
I will always have my WoW account active, but it appears it's time to move on to a new time-sink
You would have to be retarded to think it would be out in 2009, this article is very anti-blizzard in my eyes, like alot of things on here i find, is a shame as its the best MMO game out there.
Ofcourse its not releasing in 2009, anyone who knows blizzard would know that. Infact anyone who knows blizzard will be happy if they release it before 2011. I know i wouldnt be suprissed if it gets released somewhere in 2011. Still i hope it gets released in a short while because i cant wait to pay a visit to the maelstrom and have a little chat with my good friend deathwing.
Anyway before the release of the next expansion we can hopefully play a litle Diablo 3 and not to forget Starcraft 2.

i'd say they will aim for a winter release but push it back to early summer due to delays/polish.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
