Hiya,
New poster here on the forums and I thought I would look around the TOR forums as I am a fan who is interested in playing the game when it is released. As I was looking around the forums I noticed quite a few people who were not interested in the game at all.
Now I respect that people have different opinions but there are some things I am confused about these are as follows:
1) I noticed in another thread someone talking about how the fact you have a radial menu in the latest Alpha footage to choose which of the options you speak from, The OP then took that apart saying the game will be terrible because it is too linear and does not allow you to have an open feel.
Too Linear??!! It makes me wonder if the OP there has played any standard MMO such as World of Warcraft, where when you pick up a quest you have a choice between doing the quest or deleting it, how can someone consider the fact you now have responses which actually does ALTER future quests that you see in the game be too linear?
2) Some people have been complaining about the graphical style of the game, granted some people like to have certain styles and not everyone will enjoy the art style. However what I have observed is that every person who dislikes the art style instantly compares a game to WoW
If RPG's were all about the graphics then people would not still play old favorites. BioWare however have created a game in the past that uses a high end graphics engine, that game for those who do not know is Mass Effect. I believe that you cant judge a company for the direction they take as long as they are not being lazy. They have worked on games with high power before so they have made a qualified decision.
I just dont understand why people post in SW:TOR forums if they hate the game,
Why are *some* people on MMORPG.com so mental!

As for the character models I too am a little disappointed but if they add in some high rez textures for those of us on the bleeding edge of technology then I will be happy. The outside environments are amazing looking though.

If you know anything about SWG and the NGE that buried it you wont be suprised that there are still many bitter gamers that can never forgive SoE for screwing up the best thing that ever happend to MMO gaming.
So when people like that see yet another nonesense with Star Wars in the name they get angry, and rightly so.
SW-TOR will mostly appeal to the MMO noobs, the players that never played theme-park type of MMO and to some old Star Wars fans that like to play very casually.
Vet MMO'ers on the other hand, see this game for what it is:
Just another Single Player game shamelessly trying to pass as a MMORPG just so it can have an excuse to charge you 15 bucks a month.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.

I am infact an SWG vet before the NGE soon as it came out I quit the game and yes they destroyed my beloved game.
However I simply cannot agree that it gives people the indulgence of instantly deeming anything with the star wars title to be watered down crap. I loved the combat system pre NGE but I also like the way GCD's work in Warcraft I feel that it is an easy enough play style to get people into it.
I Have also played through 6 MMO's (Which may not be many by your standard) and I trust BioWare to make a brilliant game as I have played multiple IP's of theirs and know they always strive to deliver. Then again I guess we will both have to wait for release to make truly constructive judgements about the quality of the game

o_O trollathon 24/7...good times, lol
I just think because of the name haters come out the woodwork rather quickly & easily, just as with FFXIV - though not as apparent until cross-posting...
Personally I'm excited based on the gameplay footage for old republic and glad to see bioware sticking to things they are good at; however, I don't like the graphical direction too much...but I think the same of borderlands, and I'm sure I'll enjoy both that & this game regardless of not enjoying the pixels 'as much as I could'.
Personally I think the main boards are usually a little to fanboi-ish, but not always the case...its more on an overall thread-by-thread basis. Nonetheless, this game should do pretty good & doesnt need any confusion helping - as I don't think people here are confused, but more or less just complaining just because they can
I like to reply to your last sentence.
You don`t need to wait for release in order to have a judgement about the quality of the game.
Some people already like it and express it on forums, some already hate it and are doing the same on forums.
Yet only the fanbois seem to get all emo and sensitive when someone says something bad about "their" game heh, go figure.
For me, I`ve been through too many failed games and I`ve learned that for someone with A vast experience with MMOs the first impression you have a about the game is usually the right one.
The "It`s Alfa", " It`s Beta", "it just launched give it some time" type of talk doesn`t fly anymore.
It`s a fanboi wishfull thinking that eventually things will get better and they`ll have fun and be entertained, which never really happens doesn`t it.
The Core mechanics and features are known early on and people should say what they think about the game without funbois getting all nerdragy when they hear bad things about "their" game.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.
I played SWG from closed beta and all the way up until CU. Unlocked my force character slot yatta yatta. It was a great game, quite possibly the most fun I have ever had in an MMO. Was I upset when they screwed over all my hard work? Yes, of course, but that was so long ago I cant see how people still bitch about it. I greatly look forward to SW:TOR. I absolutely love the direction bioware is going. They are bringing alot of new things to the MMO industry with this game. From what their latest videos have shown, it looks promising, at least to me. At the end of the day thats all that matters. Don't let any of the haters and trolls feed you their negative hype, its all hogwash anyway. Nobody even knows what this game will be like until it is actually played by the public.

That's all well a good except that anybody that disagrees with you is automatically a fanboi. So basically you want to get on a board and post a bunch of unsubstantiated negative opinions about a game and have other people agree with you to make you feel good. There is no other reason for you to post this stuff in such a negative way.
Where you to come in here and say "I don't believe this game is going to be what I am looking for. It looks, TO ME, that it will be highly instanced and resemble a single player game. Of coarse I could be wrong but this is what I truly feel after reviewing all of the information we currently have" then I am sure you would not get these Fanbois flaming you.
But no, you came in and used words like "nonesense" and tried to make yourself seem superior. You need help, plain and simple. Or maybe just friends.
By the way its ok to have an opinion but just because someone has an opposing one does not make them a fanboi. A troll is someone who posts negative opinions on boards just to start fights or because he/she has a grudge.

I'm an MMO vet, I played SWG pre-cu, unlocked Jedi and I'm looking forward to SWTOR as are a shit load of people from Bloodfin. If you look at the SWTOR forums you will see that people post daily on the topic of SWG, and you will also see there are shit loads of players from other games looking forward to SWTOR.
They actually had to start the server check in threads over because they all reached 200 pages.
The thing is I buried the past a long time ago. I had hoped the emu would be my salvation, after playing the old game again I realized it's not the game I loved; it is the past that I loved. That's never coming back without some kinda convoluted time machine, so I'm moving on and looking forward once again to playing a new SW MMO with people I knew. TBH those people started leaving SWG on my server after publish 10, and more left for WoW. Few came back for more than a month after that. That game was losing players since the first month it launched.
I’m sorry if there is a new tradition for MMOs that you don’t approve of, but it’s actually been this way for years now. You can either deal with it, or find a different game genera to play, or make your own game.
1.) I get the feeling you haven't played KotOR or a non-linear MMO before.
2.) Just ignore people who dislike graphics - they don't actually have eyes.

Personally I am looking forward to this game as well.
I think it has a LOT of potential and each of the released tidbits have proven more and more to me that this game is going to be fun.
I will say that until the day I try it. If it sux, it sux. No point in whining about it. I am not a big fan of AION. I will not play this game for my own personal reasons. I will also not go around bad mouthing it or saying it is awfull. Simply does not appeal to me and may to others.
personally, I do not have time to put into games like I used too. I like MMO's and the people I meet and befriend in them. So, I will probably never give them up. However, a game is supposed to be a game. When it becomes necessary for me to log in daily to either stay competative or keep some thing in check. The game is no longer a game and becomes a job.
I got a job. It sux. I do not want to have to PAY for another one.
Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.

1) Actually I have played through KotoR multiple times, It is one of the only offline games that I feel has a great replay factor and the fact that the end game changes depending on your choices is a big effect. I am not asking for every little flashpoint to be amazingly epic but it makes a difference having a story that does have choice. Perhaps you could name me one of your "non-linear" mmo's
2) Try making an objective statement about graphics, your post just screams idiot as you have absolutely no justification as to why you feel that poor graphics = poor game.
I find it very unfortunate that more and more people these days seem to be "oh graphics have to be amazing or its shit" AoC was high quality graphics, I found it as a terrible. Atleast there is justification behind their choice in the art style.

Vet MMOer here and you are very mistaken. Bioware is one of the best game development companies out there and if you've never played KOTOR you are missing out on an exceptional game that shows the great diversity of choices that SW:TOR will offer for branching storylines and progression. It's not a sandbox by any means, but sandboxes only offer limited tools to use in a stagnant universe.
I personally have no interest in who can build the largest guild of asshats to flood the chatbox with smack talk and camp the best spots. I, like most of us older gamers, have a limited time to play and prefer a game that is fun and casual where I don't have to spend a few minutes to hours looking for a team in order to do anything. Add to that the voice overs and scripted events that make the game feel alive and enough content for 10 KOTORs and we are talking about a winner in my book.
Stop crying over the NGE, it's no AC2.

He should not insult others, but I doubt there is a person here who does not insult others, when they post their opinions, yet yell and scream that they are fact. Does not matter if it's hating a game that is not in beta, or saying it's the greatest game ever, and you don't know any of the details, people treat their opinion as if it's the right one, and spread disinformation.

Only TOR fanbois get sensitive? You must not be paying attention to the SWG fanbois everytime someone speaks ill of their beloved game. When someone tells them that SWG features aren't wanted in any which way shape or form for this game, they go balistic. It's just completely incomprehensible for them that anyone could have played pre-nge SWG and not liked it. TOR isn't going to be anything like SWG and many of us are happy of that fact.
