DX11

"Tanaka took the opportunity to give some hints about how powerful they will become. It turns out the background scenery was heavily compressed for the demo, and will be greatly improved to the point where individual trees will be rendered far into the distance."

I really hope that dx11 is supported in XIV, since windows 7 and dx11 cards will be released by then. If XIV isnt in DX11 they would really be hindering their graphics for no reason and with the dx11 capabilities the game would look stunning not that it alrdy isnt. Was just curious what you guyz think.

Windows 7 (Oct 22)

DX11 Cards (September 11) (Not Confirmed Yet)

(DX11 Hardware Capabilities)

  • MMORPG developers dont like to make their games with high-end technology because they want to get much more people in game, not for only who has superb home computer. And its so hard to change game engine to DX11 base if they start to make game for DX10 client long time ago. Square really big and experienced company, i think they can handle it if they want.I really hope Square will release FFXIV with DX11 support, that would be nice see new gfx features in a MMORPG

    We will see..

They will obviously support DX 9, 10 and 11 to cover all bases but you obviously will have the most enjoyable experience with DX 11 and a higher end PC.  But no developer will miss out on money by making there game only for higher end PC's.  They will have an adaptable Client so everything will be fine: )

We haven't even seen a broad coding base for DX10 yet. I'm pretty doubtful that DX11 will be in FFXIV, especially if it's seeing release in 2010. Think about it - the first DX10 cards started churning out late 2006/early 2007. We are just starting to see DX10 become the norm for video games right now in mid-2009, that's a difference of roughly 2.5 years.

Honestly, its unlikely they'll be supporting DX11 unless it's at some point after launch. I mean, realisitically, amongst most games DX10 hasn't taken off until recently, and it's even further behind in terms of MMOs. I wouldn't want to jump into DX11 for the same reason I didn't jump onto DX10 right away. Windows 7 is "nifty keen" and all, but  I wouldn't touch it until at least a year into it's release to let the kinks get ironed out. The base of people actually using a DX11 card and win7 by then are going to be minimal.

Additionally, unless they're beginning development at this exact moment, it's not likely to support it right away. It's very rare to develop your engine around bleeding edge software. Hell, DX11 may still have been a pipe dream when they started development on it.

Bottom line, don't get your hopes up. Especially with their history of shafing the PC client for FFXI, I wouldn't expect them to implement something that their console version can't  support. FFXI doesn't even have native 360 pad support  on the PC client and it's been release on the 360 FFS.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

as others said, they wont make it DX11 because of the loss of people who dont have high end computers.

It'll look amazing none the less.

It's far too early for an MMO to release with DX 11, you also have to remember when production began on this title. Titles that are going into production now would consider using DX11 but not games that went into production 2 years ago.

Also some gamers seem to get hung up on titles using the newest in DX, it doesn't change very much to be truthful. A game can still do everything that it could do with DX11 using DX10 it just takes more work on their end. DX is really just an interface and each new release of it makes more capabilities native so it is easier to make use of them with your game, but you can always program in what is not being used. It is just one of those buzz words that gamers seem to get hung up on like it is going to make much of a difference. The most important thing to remember is using DX11 you could easily make a game that looked like it was using a decade old graphics setup, it doesn't mean a game will look cool.

from what they have sad so far about what they are aiming for with graphics, i would imagine dx10 at the very least will be used for this game. Final fantasy is going to look insain and will probably rival AOC's graphics. Im just wonderign how much optimization is being done since the game is seemless and not zoned like ffxi 11 was.
