is there pvp?

read the FAQ on the stickies, didn't say anything about pvp in the game

did bioware mention it in their features?

if there is pvp, won't everyone want to be a badass sith warrior or holy molly jedi knight?

mostly will choose sith coz alot thing they are cool, then there will be class inbalance on the servers like WAR?

Some of the most fun I ever had in SWG was being an anal retentive, methodical bounty hunter "Xanzu". I took down LOTs of Jedi. Hunting was a full time job :)

Kept a trophy collection--so there can be more to pvp than force wielders.

In the videos recently released, I noticed the Sith Warriors don't seem to have much in the way of ranged combat.  I doubt that every gamer will play a Jedi or a Sith because it does look like their are pros and cons to playing each class.

As far as PvP is concerned, there hasn't been much mention of it but I doubt that if a Jedi is just hanging around on a planet, a Sith is going to go up and invite him for a drink at the local Canteen.

No one knows the form that PvP will take because the des haven't said. Personally, I'm hoping its severely restricted and on only a few servers.

I agree, I think WoW had the pvp thing down good and Bio should consider WoW methods for pvp. Heck I would not mind even seeing a battle ground of sorts.

There was a video interview with a dev a few months back (when they showed off the FMV trailer) - he stated that there would be pvp but no details were given. Just the fact that pvp *will* be in the game but how its integrated is yet to be seen.

But to answer the qeustion, yes, there will be some type of pvp.

I enjoy undercutting people in the market place - it's the only PvP a crafter gets.

No doubt it will be carebear. They will probably have pvp servers with a lame death penalty that is nothing more than a minor nuisance. The rest of pvp will most likely take place instances much like WoW bgs.

If Bioware was going to do something innovative with pvp they would have mentioned it by now.   That's the reason they keep hyping their voice overs and character story content.-- it's new and they think it's cool.  Too bad most mmorpg players couldn't care less about it.

This game, epic fail, will be. Mmmhmm, yes.

There will be PvP.  It's Star "Wars".  Galactic Civil War FTW!

  • mrw0lfmrw0lf Member Posts: 2,269

Lets just hope its not just added as an after thought. Better to go without than to have pointless buggy features for the sake of  appeasing some, simply to increase the playerbase.

Yeah I hope they don't make the same mistake of WAR staff.

You do realize that this takes place thousands of years BEFORE Phantom Menace, and about 300 years AFTER Knights of the Old Republic right? Therefore, there is no galactic civil war.

Did you play the first two KoToRs? There was no "galactic civil war," but there is certainly a war between the Sith Empire and the Old Republic.

And? I never said there wasn't a war going on. Aenertia said the Galactic Civil War, which means she got the timeline wrong and I corrected her.

If there were no PvP why bother having two sides? Im guessing on certain zones which is intended just for PvP and on PvP servers fighting will be everywhere.

There will be PvP question only is, will it be any good.

Hopfully there is decent pvp in the end game, having some rvr on a specially designed planet would be awsum, but any rated instanced pvp is always a blast for people who dont seem to understand the concept of killing npc's when your paying 15 bucks a month to play online with millions of people. Dont get me wrong hunting for great endgame loot is fun but whats the point if you have noone's head to cut off with that shiny new lightsaber?

  • KrayzjoelKrayzjoel Member Posts: 906

Im sure there will be pvp. No information has yet to be released on how or in what form it will be in.

Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.
    Playing EVE Online and AOC.
    Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD

Thanks for the correction, I forgot about the timeline.  So... there is a war of some type, imo it will become large scale.  After all the BH profession cannot be carebear (<--- non offensive) for so long.  The non combatve side of the game shall be fun, but to hunt out NPC Jedi would become very boring overtime, but hunting the player controlled Jedi would be everlasting fun.

Wow, that is a tad nit picky, I have to say.

That's an easy mistake to make, and she's right. It would be silly to have no PvP in this game.

Then again, this is basically KoTOR 3. I doubt I'll be renewing my subscription after the first month and I've "beat" all 100 hours of the actual game content.

How can any MMO fan not like PvP? What is the point of it being an MMO? The competitive spirit is lost in a game of any kind when your opponent is a computer and not a real person.

Would you only play online chess against a computer?

Knock off the "carebear crap?" Really? There is nothing offensive in this term, and that you are choosing to see it as offensive is kind of strange.

"Carebear" is just MMO speak for someone who likes to do things that aren't pvp. If you'd like us to remove the word from our vocabularies, we might as well remove things like:

    Noob

    Lowbie

    Toon

    Guildie

    Mob

    Aggro

    Pull

    etc

    etc

    etc

Oh, come on. Not that I care much, but I think it's no use denying "carebear" is potentially inflammatory language as are "leet kiddie", and yes, "noob". I've seen these terms evolve through the years and they're nothing like "guildie", for instance :)

Hey, an episode of Seinfeld comes to mind, where Mike tries to convince Jerry that he used the word "phony" in a good way:

Mike: First of all, I think you completely misunderstood what I said. I meant it in a complimentary way. I mean, you know when people say, "He's bad," it really means he's good, sort of thing? You know, slang.

Jerry: Use it in a sentence.

Mike: Man, that Michael Jordan is so phony. [then frustrated, to Kramer] Why'd you tell him?

Without a solid PvP system this game will flop.

Honestly, if PvP is an afterthought this game won't meet its potential.

Maybe some people like MMOs to Cooperate with other players, not to merely compete with them?

     Just a thought.
