I stopped playing WoW a few months ago to focus on school, but now I'm looking for a new MMO to play during my free time and weekends. Anyone have any recommendations? There seems to be a lot of new games coming out like Aion and Champions Online, but I have no idea how good these games are.

If you want free, Runes of Magic is EXTREMELY similar to WoW, with some key differences like dual classing. As far as p2p/f2p goes, theres a million options out there, what exactley are you looking for? Something to literally just do in scarce free time? or Something to commit your life to like alot of people do with WoW.
Warhammer Online is probably the best transition I'd go for from WoW... Very fun gameplay, easy to enjoy; a bit lax on the whole crafting system but otherwise fun.
Aion looks like it is one of the best MMO's to come around in years...it already has 3.5 million subs in Asia and it comes out the 21st. Crafting, PvP, PvE, amazing graphics, and many more features lead me to think that this is the one game that might actually take a large chunk off of WoW. Champions Online is more of a single-player RPG that can be played online than an MMO.
I would say waiting for Aion is your best bet, that's what I am doing.
Eh, I tried Aion in the beta... To be honest, it seemed like just another Asian MMO.. only difference is you have to p2p. Sure theres good graphics and customization... but really... what makes it special? Wings? Wow....
I actually heard that Champions will focus more on teams then soloability... much like city of heroes... but I suppose I could be mistaken, not sure what the source of that information was.
I beta'd Champions and area is split into different instances with only 25 people or so in each, and the dungeon equivalents are done with only 5 people in a group. There are public quests like in WAR but that is the only form of multiplayer that is really substantial. It is fun, but just not really my type of game in the long run, and I still felt it more like a singleplayer game.
Mortal Online is a game with combat similar to Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, it's a FFA PvP game that is sandbox, along with unique PvE content in that legendary dragons that you fight are actually only one time occurances if you kill them, etc. It's also sandbox, so I am gonna keep my eye on it if Aion turns out to be a bust.
Champions Online is very soloable...too soloable for some peoples taste.
Did the beta, and I liked it. alot of fun making then playing a super hero. Very different from WoW.

Personally I'm waiting for Guild Wars 2, and Star Wars:TOR. Unfortunately, the dead time until they come out is killin me. I enjoyed WOW for a long time (3+ years), and have had trouble finding a game that replaces it. OP, I'm not sure what you liked from WOW that made it fun while you played. It's hard to get a game that has the following all in one package: PvP(normal servers had the option to toggle PvP on or off depending on your desire to fight at the time), PvE, good crafting, large world, more than one faction, etc... Most of the games I have played thus far in my attempt to find a replacement didn't encompass all of the things I liked in WOW. Like it or hate it, WOW had a little of everything, even if master of none as some feel.
I admit I was a carebear. While I PvPed my butt off in world, BGs, arenas,etc... (was not a raider so this was my focus) I liked that on the normal servers I could turn it off and go fish, grind for gold, do dailies, etc and not be bothered unless I was feeling froggy and decided to stay flagged. This and also having multiple factions made it interesting to me. I like AOC which I am playing now, but am concerned that since the PvP is FFA and no factions, it will not be my cup of tea.
Anyway, just some things to consider. Let us know what you are looking for in a MMO and somone may be able to narrow down your choices to ones you will like.
