Let's see.. WoW - it's already the biggest so there's hardly any people defending or praising it (apart for one known individial ofc), WoW rather has the most rabid haters.
Spend around a week in any game's message board and I can guarantee you there will be a post or two by players who'se main (non)issue /w the game in question is that it isn't WoW.
True but that comes from WoW numbers and we can easily assume most players have tried WoW and when referring to it in any thread they are pointing out some good things in WoW(the general polish of the game, good UI, non demanding graphics and combat fuidity) not the entire game design.
You're telling that there are playes specifically saying they want another copy of WoW, this is nonsense.
WoW has most numerous fanboys but a few rabid(like the infamous Zorndorf), the haters will often post a lot of stupid crap though.
Let me put it this way, take a game with a reasonably low level cap and a non-gear-centered philosophy (Guild Wars.) Players will whine about the low level cap and lack of lootz, and lack of jumping.
Take a game with a heavy PvP theme, and they'll whine about open combat.
Take a game with an extremely open-ended player driven universe (EVE) and they'll complain about the generally directionless PvE.
In many cases the games that they're complaining about were never intended to be WoW clones and have pholosophies that are diametrically opposed to WoW. Instead of appreciating those games based on their own merit, they'll make posts about how the game did not live up to their expectations and it's inferior to their game of choice. That is very much the definition of Carebarism/Trolling.
I don't think it was smart grouping Darkfall and MO, the two tend to dislike the other. Vangaurd and EQ2 also have a similar relationship.
It seems that the more hardcore the game, the more hardcore the fans. Although games that attract younger audiences, like WoW, tend to have more immature and hence worse fans.

I voted for WoW but its just because of one certain WoW fan (you all know who) but his rabidness is way beyond any other poster here... Darkfall is second and dont see any similarity between MO and DF fans...
Exactly the reason I voted for WoW.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike Loved: Star Wars Galaxies Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
I hate all fanboys. People who think the world is white and black are fucking morons. You know the fanboys who have lost all objective reasoning. Just because you like a game does not mean the game is the holy grail and that you must defend its honor at all costs.

I agree. People that like a game don't bother me at all, it's people who will defend a game and it's maker no matter what happens, and act as though the game is perfect in every conceivable way. I don't understand those people.

Darkfall fanboys are probably the most annoying, really any hardcore PvP fanboy is, they are like those macho people that get drunk and want to fight you.
hahaha
My main reason for playing most MMOs was PvP. But that was funny.

I think hardcore pvp df, mo, fanboys are the type of people who wish they could get drunk and beat people up in fights. Kinda reminds me of cops when they act all tough.
All fanboy are the same, they will not listen to different opinions. There are also flamers who tend to call others fanboy or haters when they are being neutral and objective. Which I believe to be another form of fanboism, which they try to bash opinions that does not match their own.
There are no better or worse. People who cannot be reasoned with simply does not accept others as equals. I been called both a fanboy and hater on plenty of forums before on a few occasions simply stating my own opinions. Alot of people forget that opinions are subjective.
This is also one of the reasons why we have wars. Someone always want to be right and in control, and they will defend it even if it means massacre the others. Look at the middle east and the roots of their dispute is often based on clash of opinions (I.E religions, wealth, policies, etc) before any other factor.

That and the fact when someone says give me this and the other person says no you have to physically do something.
WOW probably has the absolute largest number of rabid stereotypical fanboys, but I think that is because the population is so large and so a relatively small relative proportion of fanboys translates into a large absolute number. In terms of highest relative number of idiot fanboys it has to be DFO obviously.
I think guys like Zorndorf are an exception. Though I think Zorndorf is basically trolling the whole of mmorpg. I have no doubt he really likes WoW but I think he feels its his job to "balance out" the WoW hate on mmorpg. Some of the stuff he writes would get laughed at in WoW.
Start saying that Arena is perfectly balanced in trade chat in WoW like Zorndorf does here and you'll be laughed at and abused.
While WoW fanbois are the worst they arent so much rabid about WoW, but rather ultra critical of every other game.
The typical WoW fanbois strated playing post Burning Crusade and have never played another pay to play mmorpg before WoW. Of course when a new mmorpg is released the fanbois go on attack.
But the hilarious thing is that most of the WoW fanois would not have liked WoW when it was released in late Nov 2004. I suppose thats one of the reasons why WoW has changed so radically from when it was released. To accomodate the masses of people who never even heard of an mmorpg pre-WoW.
It also exaplains why the next WoW expansion will even more resemble a single player game (instanced raids, battlegrounds, arena and phasing being used a great more than WotLK means instanced levelling.)
Darkfall fanboys are probably the most annoying, really any hardcore PvP fanboy is, they are like those macho people that get drunk and want to fight you. But I dislike Eve fanboys the most because they, like most the sandbox elites, have an air of smug self satisfaction, you can tell they think they are more intelligent and creative than others. I also hate how they glorify the game no matter the situation like it was the perfect game, far from it in my opinion, but they are like Mac users.
I am somewhat torn in a topic that I shouldn't care about.
There are a lot of games with some pretty rabid fans on this site. I don't mean fans, but rabid fans. Like the type that will defend anything a company does no matter how aweful it is.
Then someone mentioned any pvp player and the hair on the back of my neck stood up. Suffering through any post about Carebear this, carebear that and how pvp players are true gamers... Ugh, there is nothing worse.
easily WoW fanbois. Always up there with their flimsy egos going on about which mmo is #1. There is a teeny bit of sympathy for them though, I know as a teenager maybe I was a bit overly-concerned with what was #1, but when you grow up you sort of just go for what you enjoy and don't give a rats ass anymore.
Not seeing much of these so-called fanboy's on forums.
Can meet them on game conventions though, you will see them all dressed up, that's what I would call a fanboy.
People enjoying their game and being positive about it are not fanboy's to me. Just people who might enjoy their game.
And I simply ignore those who either say "This Game is the Best Ever" or those who say similar things to : This Game Sucks" both not worth the attention for me.
Have to stick up for my game, EVE fanbois are the worst. Go ahead, suggest there should be a PVE only server, or that new players can never catch up, or maybe its not really a PVP game, and watch them pull out the lasers and put a cap in your arse.
I don't think Eve fanbois are the worst. Most Eve players are objectionable human beings in addition to being fanbois and that makes them worse in a larger sense. But...we are only talking about fanbois here...
WOW fanboys are the worst, they think every game should be exactly like WoW with different skins and when you say otherwise they all pull out the "well its got the most subscribers" card. even though most non-idiots realize that popular does not mean the BEST.
SWTOR seems to be quickly cultivating a rabid fanboy community. You can't say a negative word about the game without multiple kids thinking you pissed in their cornflakes and attacking you.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
Everyone on this site knows that every game has its die hard fanboys that will either defend their game with every last dieing word they type, and come in and flame other games that get any type of positive attention. We also see the more manipulative sly ones that go into your favorite game forums asking dumb questions on why they should play this game over their current game, and then start spouting off dumb responses and trolling people. So the question is... Which game does everyone think has the worst or most rabbid fanboys? I have decided to post a poll with some bigger games in it.. so you can vote also feel free to discuss your reasons why you chose the way you did.
i voted for aion.
considering "games" of the past i would give my vote surely to DnL!
so here is my list including DnL *smiles* i cannot resist adding it.
I would have to say Mortal online has the worst fanboys...
Speak anything but good about it and you get ripped a part.... or atleast they try to and end up looking like grade school children fighting over whose dad can beat up the other ones.
I remember saying mortal online reminded me of oblivion(and that is all I said, exactly how I said it) and I had 20 other posts after me quote it and flame it to the ground. I heard everything from 'go play wow'(I don't like WoW so they assume everyone that dislikes it is a wow fan) to 'you shouldn't be playing mmos' to 'MORTAL ONLINE HAS BEST MMO GRAPHICS EVER!!! GET A LIFE NOOB'
I never replied to any of the responses and it was somewhat humorous just seeing all of the mortal fan boys work themselves up for over a week of posts after seeing me say 'mortal reminds me of oblivion'
Wow haters don't like Zorndorf at all !!! Logical because every time these guys come up with the tyipcal WOW vomit, Zorndorf gives painstakingly hard facts to counter them. A few examples are The unbalanced Arena's: Pity ALL classes are represented in the TOP Arena teams of the world. You are NOT there ? Well how about your lack in eye hand coordination? It outweighs any balance for 99.99% of you as a player.... Wow is for children: Pity social studies like Nielsen show otherwise. Wow is losing subs: Pity Xfire shows the exact opposite trend. ------> Zorndorf puts out some MUCH needed steam on these mmorpg.com pages.
---> The worst GROUP of fans are the lying cheaters. No doubt the last 3 months Aion members are the worst. Some examples? (which I could easely counter with links btw). - Wow was killed in the East tx to Aion. Stating that WOW lost 5 or 7 million subs tx to Aion ... - Aion had ... 3.5 Million subs in the east (easely countered and now we know it is at a maximum of 1.8/1.9 M and Korean market didn't grow for 8 months. Thank you server counts ))) Zorndorf is always prepared to discuss on facts (with links). And that hurts, because after YEARS of ridiculous WOW vomit with 4-letter words, WOW haters need now facts and figures before insulting players, WOW and Blizzard. It was about time ........ )))))
Have to stick up for my game, EVE fanbois are the worst. Go ahead, suggest there should be a PVE only server, or that new players can never catch up, or maybe its not really a PVP game, and watch them pull out the lasers and put a cap in your arse.

Ah yes, I see your point. So we're still number 1...... woot!
And Zorn's not really a fanboi, he's more of a WOW prophet, in the biblical sense, wearing a sackcloth, eating berries, and casting out troll demons who dare besmirch the good name of WOW.
There's over zealous fans and detractors for every game out there, think of them as the equiivalence of stalkers in the entertainment world.

Star Wars Galaxies (Pre-CU), these guys still lament the loss of their precious SWG 5 years later. Get over it.

Actually I don't mind fanboys, its the anti-fanboys that are the worst.
Atleast fanboys have some hope for a game. They are being positive and trying to make the best of a situation.
The guys who rag on fanboys are just depressing hosers... 10 times worse in my opinion.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...

next worst is AC fanbois incidentally. They have to jump on the slate AC2 bandwagon any chance they have even though AC wasn't actually that good.
Best fanbois, I'd say were the DAoC ones or FFXI, you don't hear much from them really and both are good games in their own way.
