You grew up with Everquest then moved on to eq2 then to wow and now are on the search for a new MMORPG, I have been on the look out and still find myself going back to WOW for a day and getting only a couple of days out of the subscription.
So what do I do now, just keep trawling for open_source/free games & new games that will try to fill the void
Taking all this into account there is nothing out there atm that can do this? All I read day in day out is people looking for new game to fill this 'explorative feeling'. And there is nothing on the horizon that i can forsee. I mean Aion but i mean come on it just looks like the same old thing. The only thing that looks remotely interesting is Fallen earth but I mean that is a recipie for failure if you dont get the in game FPS working properly and as this is a real first attempt at this it is sure to fail.
So what can we take from all this, there is at least 100,000 players searching the internet looking for that fix. Why cant developer fill this need with something that is worthwile. I played Warhammer that was budget[who wants to trudge around in clunky armor].
The issue is not that I dont want to pay for the games, if there was a MMORPG that gave me the feeling I got from eq/eq2/wow i would be all over it, but at this stage I cannot see any light at the end of tunnel.

There is many like you. But you've become a minority and a hard to reach minority. The mmorpg market is flooded. While EVE online does pickup a lot of old school mmorpg'ers, its not a game for everyone.
The EQ/Classic WoW fantasy, level based raiding player is in limbo at the moment. With Ghostcrawler on a mission to dumb down WoW to a level never thought capable of in mmo's, there are a lot of disgruntled players.
Unfortunately mmo developers have got this idea that the ONLY way to get subs in a fantasy based mmorpg is to make it PvP centric. Is it because PvP is where WoW is viewed to be its weakest? But even LotRO and Age of Conan failed to clearly illustrate what the hell there was to do once you hit max level.
I want a mmo developer to say "we've got great endgame raiding that is a challlenge and well done". I would also love to see devs work with the modding community. Players making mods to improve a game at no cost for the developers is genius. I enjoyed WoW all the more due to the brilliant mods made by the community.
I've done all that, and now I'm back playing Everquest! I just can't kick the habit! And really, the end game PvE raids are truly the best you are going to find.
