This is the first time i've pre-ordered an mmo. Will i be playing this weekend on the beta client i downloaded ? I was told at gamestop that i cant pick up the game to the first.

The beta client is the same if not a newer version of the client then what will be on disk so unless you want a super fresh reinstall there's no reason to uninstall then reinstall when your disk arrives. And yes its the current client is the one you can use for the early start
In past early starts, all you need is the beta client. Those with appropriate pre-order codes entered can play.
You wont even need the box after launch for anything except the CD-Key inside - as the beta client patches itself right through launch.
