Well, as the thread heading stated, does this game follow a linear map progression? As in, do you go from the beginning map, to the Capital hub, to the next map, then so on and so forth, or after getting to a specific map, the world opens up to several locations in which you can choose play at?
If this is still confusing, can you be at lvl 20 and have multiple locations in the world to actually level at that are not on the same map?
I myself have played the beta but it was only the early ones so the max level was like 15 or something. So basically, I only got to play the beginning "tutorial" map, the Capital hub, and the next map after the hub.

I have your answer right now. In Poeta that is quote possibly one of the most linear progressions you get have, second to that is Verteron. Both of these places are pretty much linear, however, when you get to places like Eltnen the maps dramatically increase in size and openness. Eltnen is believe, however, is one of like two maps you get go to, and as you climb up, judging from some of the info I've seen, you get a little more options as to what maps you can go to to find x-level mobs and some quests. This is more speculation, but speculation based on my observations and experiences.
Hope this helped you for the most part.

Kewl kewl, as long as it is not just "Follow the quest line to the next map." and turns into where every character will follow this map progression and not having some options to choose.
Edit: I also forgot, the Abyss is also a location you can level at also so I guess that adds extra dimension. But I would still like a larger world.

As noted above, The first two maps (lvl1-20) are Linear in the extreem after that the maps open up.

I know what you mean, your looking for a world that was large like FFXI and gave numerous options on where you could go to not be in a crowd. I can't tell you how big this world is as I did not play very much beta for fear of getting burnt out. But i can tell ya FFXIV comes out next year and that world will be massive if it follows the same scheme as FF11 as like you are askin for.
