yes you can download it, but you wont be getting into the so called open beta without an open beta key IE: pre-ordered or one given through Fileplanet or the likes.

was right in the news info on the Aion website.

    straight from the Aion website:

As added extra spice, FilePlanet will--in addition to distributing the client--be giving away a load of open beta keys starting on Tuesday, September 1, 2009.

So you will need a key to get in.

So it's not really an Open Beta...

There they go again, shooting themselves in the foot....

They have so much support for the game they probably don't think it's necessary to have an open open beta. I would really have liked them to do so. I didn't like when Cryptic did the Fileplanet subscription beta only, and I don't like that NCsoft is doing it. However, I have already pre-ordered Aion and it doesn't effect me all that much since I love the game! Perhaps the keys through FP will be to anyone and not just subscribers.

Closed beta was for Collector's edition pre-orders and for the keys that were given out on a few different sites, including this one.  the Open beta is for anyone who pre-ordered the game.  That's how I understand it at least.

    Momo sucks, I have proof.

     One thing I'm unclear on...

If you pre-order today? Does that guarantee you a spot on the open-beta?

What if you pre-order once the open beta is underway, can u still get a key to get in?

    Just wondering.

So it's a closed beta for FilePlanet subscribers. LolFail. Looks like when I get my pay check I have to pre-order it.

Buy it on steam, much faster, you get the key right there, and you just click a little box that links you to the ncsoft website, which enters your key.  Couldn't be easier.

Just go to Gamestop and pre-order AION. It only costs $5.00 and is not that big if a deal, if they allowed "everyone and their brother" to play it would end up in disaster.

Yeah, I ordered directly from NcSoft and regret not using Steam.  Steam allows you to back up the game client so you don't have to re-download it for any other computers.

Or you could have DL the whole game client from fileplanet and keep it in your harddrive. It only took me 2 hrs to get 6 gig.

Yeah, I don't do business with FP, though.  With steam, you can actually backup your current game, patches and all with just a click.  No need to re-install patches is a big plus, especially with the size of the patches so far.

I'm assuming this game will not be portable like WoW where you just copy the directory from one machine to another.  I hope I'm wrong.

    Anyone know?
