Should be interesting. Anyone know what time the servers open?
"Because it's easier to nitpick something than to be constructive." -roach5000
I believe it was 10am PST / 19:00 CET
Looks like i will be be doing an all nighter as its 1am (Aus time) when the servers open .
This invasion, know what level it spans? Various levels?
Im going to go and assume levels 10-20? or all levels - have they said anything? Site is down at the moment so i cant check
Well at the moment i can't even get my key to work! I pre-ordered with game and the key they gave me when i put it in, on the site says that its invalid or is being used by another account...lol! just my luck, i got in contact with game but i havent heard anything yet! so you guys are lucky your gonna be able to play it . Where did you guys buy your copies from?
Well i had to get mine from Gamestop, and got my beta key what also is my early access/retail key few days ago. Im in Aust and the game gets released on the 10th sept lol...so internet ftw.
does anybody know if the best buy pre orders get early access or is this exclusive to gamestop.
Best Buy pre-orders do get early access if you got the pre-order beta key.

Thanks OP, I will now be counting the seconds until I can leave work...
If CO is 'eventy heavy', this may be the coolest MMO ever. The best MMO memories I have are of killing giant snowmen, jack o' lanterns and Rikti invaders on CoX. I never understood why they didn't do live events more often... Look for Omar@Josiah123 on my hoverboard doing drive-bys
This will be epic!
I have the exact same problem.
Are the servers even OPEN?
When I log in, it says my account has 1 permission pair, but no shards are up.
I get the same error
Sadly, and one of the main reasons (but not only) I am going to let my purchase of this game goto waste, is that if you bought outside of a few select retailers, you don't get access to the head start. This isn't published anywhere on the main site, but rather you have to dig into the forums and read half way down a fan made (not dev made) FAQ to learn about this.
One of the retailers that DOES NOT get head start is Direct 2 Drive. Amazon is another.
That kind of terrible fine print crap doesn't deserve my business.
Dude, there are thousands of posts clearly explaining that if you didn't buy the game from Bestbuy or Gamestop, you don't get early access. This has been known for over a month now. It has nothing to do with fine print, but everything to do with your inability to search the internet.

Ahem, as I said, it isn't published on the main site, or on the retailers sites. Rather you have to dig into the forum and read that only certain retailers allow head start. Its pathetic that fan-boys can't seperate poor marketing from the game. The shear number of posts on Cryptic's forums confused over the head start program CLEARLY shows that this is a marketing and PR blunder, and was never clearly communicated.
A developer should clearly state on their website as well as with their respective retailers, what bonuses you receive and what you don't. No where on the main site did it mention 'pre-order from these stores, or no head start for you.'
Thus, it has everything to do with fine print, because if a forum FAQ created by a player is the only thing to explain this in clear written out terms, then how is that not fine print.
That being said there is a degree of Caveat Emptor to all purchases, I accept this, as I accept my right to leave the game, as well as the clear fact that Cryptic as made a blunder here. This isn't the only reason I leave, however its tied to the main issue, which is poor communication, I have played the beta to level 20 (and I'm not hardcore hours), and have never been impressed with there communication, which I have not doubt will not change as the game continues going forward. I just chose not to be burned further by Cryptic's blunders.
Forum posts are no excuse for not advertising.
In the tutorial mission I got a Qualarr pistol as an offensive item. It is not one where you click to use, you slot it in offense.
I wasn't exactly sure what it was doing for me though. It had this giant mouse over text covering various ways the pistol may work, but I wasn't sure what it did.
Any thoughts?
Yes, it is. www.champions-online.com/retail

It's clearly posted on the CO site which retailers let you get in on the head start. Some people just can't read or don't take the time to read.

I think your missing the point, many hear feel cheated. I could understand if they had different vendors offereing different things like the did with City of Heros. When it first launched different vendors offered different sprint options. But here you have some vendors who have a head start and some who do not.
Sure most of us should have read the small print, but hell lets be real here not all of us take the time to do that. When I was purshasing the game I wasnt looking for something like that, I was looking to see if I would have beta access... I assumed that like in most games I would be given a head start just because I freaking PRE-ORDERED THE GAME.
Shame on me for not reading the small print yeah I know, but it was stupid of Cryptic to do this in the first place. I have been burned by them before so I should have knew better. Thing is though I don't pay to play Games to get burned I pay to have fun and preorder to be able to have fun before others who do not pre-order...

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

just because a select few of you mongoloids dont have the ability to check and see what each retailer is offering doesnt mean its a PR blunder or somehow cryptics fault. its your own fault for not reading and doing your homework. quit being lazy and actually pay attention to what youre doing.

Wow...thats harsh. The guy made a mistake. Give him a break.
Dax
Kind of like they're giving Cryptic a break for their inability to read?
Sorry, if it's clearly stated which vendor gives you early start access on the official CO site and in countless posts on the CO forums, but they still bitch about being cheated because they couldn't be bothered to click a link, then they should be called out for their stupidity. Especially if they call anyone who actually did read a "fanboy" as they did earlier in the thread.

It was not clearly marked on the homepage of CO.
Also for all you people that scream 'read teh site' I will further edify for you mongoloids.
Cut from the FAQ used for all of this, found in the forums. Here
"Q. I purchased a lifetime or 6-month subscription. Am I entitled to be in the head start?
A. You are only entitled to be in the head start if you pre-ordered your retail copy of the game from one of the retailers in the head start program. If you pre-ordered at Walmart and have a lifetime subscription, you won't be able to start playing until full release."
Read it, now, you can actually get in to the head start if you purchase a life/6-mo sub. So much for reading huh.
My point is clear, take it or leave it, follow those that fly the banner of CO (or 'reading'), or realize that this company has a serious problem with communicating valuable information to its customer base, and maybe you want to think twice about spending your hard earned money on them.
First, that FAQ isn't from CO or a CO employee. It's from someone trying to be a good samaritan and answer the common questions.
Second, the answer you picked is still correct. I highlighted the part in red that's relevant. It's clearly stated on the retailers page in CO which ones are in the head start program.
Third, here's one from the same FAQ that's as clear as crystal:
"Q. I pre-ordered the game. Can I get in the head start?
A. You only get in the head start if you pre-ordered from Gamestop, Best Buy, or one of the European retailers. Pre-orders from Walmart, Amazon (in the U.S.), and other North American retailers entitled you to the open beta, but not to the head start."
Face it. YOU didn't read. YOU made the mistake, not CO. The more you argue that it's not your fault, the more you make yourself look like a fool.
