World of Warcraft: A Look At Priestly Healing

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

MMORPG.com World of Warcraft Correspondent Deborah Dietrich writes this look at Priests in Blizzard's hit MMO.

Priests are a versatile class. Other classes tend to have one area of healing excellence; priests can do well in almost any role. Holy specced priests will do best as area-of-effect healers; while Discipline specced priests excel as single target healers. As a general rule, holy priests will be assigned to raid heals and a discipline priest will be healing the tank or off-tank.

With dual specs now available, some healing priests will go with a dual spec of discipline and holy and will switch depending on the needs of the raid and the demands of the fight. Still, a shadow spec can make farming faster and easier and many priests will pick one healing specialization and take shadow as their second spec.

Trouble with healing and DPS, everyone wants to top the damn meters and it effects the way people play. I can top healing meters every raid since circle of healing came along, but it's a cowards way of healing. If I was to do just what I needed to do, I'd be way down the meters and stupid kids would be calling me a bad healer.

It matters not anymore anyway. After playing since day one, I'm now done with this game, the people annoy me, a lot of guild masters are childish and think they are clever with it. Blizzard has dumbed the game down so much, it's so easy a 5 year old could now pick it up. I loath to see Dalaran full of people just jumping around the fountain and stood on the steps all day everyday doing the  same crap waiting to raid. Log off, go for a run or something for Gods sake.

i do have to agree,  wow has come far....... in pleaseing the masses of younglings and making it far too easy to get instant gratification. gone are the days where you play because it is a good game and you want to explore and have fun, if you tell anyone thats what you are doing you get ridiculed and told you are a crappy player because you don't pvp. the new expansion will not change anything it will still be about the "lewt" and the leet players complaining the game is still too hard.

Has anyone else noticed that whenever any content is posted here about WoW, that there are always certain people who will post, not about the article, but about how bad WoW is or has become?

Please, there are other places on this site to discuss WoWs shortcomings or to otherwise bash WoW, but can replies about articles please actually be about the article?

You are either indeed a bad healer or you need to find a good guild. There is no reason why you should surround yourself with kids, in this game or any other. Join a mature guild with friendly people and you'll be fine. I'm a priest and no one ever bothers me with healing meters because they know I'm a good healer and thats all that matters.

I agree with the poster above me. My main charecter is resto shaman, altho I have an alt priest wich i told to my guild that I'm building it as a shadow dps (I already have healer charecter so why not). Anyway whenever I go with my priest my guildmates ask me to heal despite that i don't want to. But still I do the healing job (got dual-spec wich makes things rly comforable) not because we lack healers, but because I do the job pretty good and my mates rely on that. And if the problem is about the toping of the meters, you will start doing it when u do your job correctly.

You guys wanna play a shitty healer? play a holy pally.

Blizzard designs every instance to do Aoe damage but forgets to give pallys a aoe heal.

Most I can heal is two at once it's a pain in the ass.

    Playing: WoW, EvE

Interested in: TOR, ER, GW2, WoD, Dust514

The biggest part of WoW I miss is my holy priest.

I lost all interest in WoW with the spirit regen nerf......and Blizzard for that matter.

I'll prob play DII 1.13 when it comes out though. But I will never buy another game made by Blizzard (Vivendi).

Vivendi has bled WoW dry. With the amount of money they have been getting WoW should be 2x as big, Free expansions, and much more evolved

150 million a month should be a hell of a lot better than WoW is now.

From the entire time I've spent on WoW I learned that every class, every spec has it's own purpose. Switch Prot and stop QQ :)

When guild members start quoting healing meters it is time to leave the guild as it is populated with idiots.

Best thing to do is find a guild where people have fun playing.
