Heres my track record I may be the worst MMOGamer of all time. I seem to mostly enjoy being a noob, like the first week when you have no idea what the heck your doing.
Ultima Online renasance: Spent way to much time hunting chickens to make arrows for my archer. Got stuck in Felucia and PKed, got mad and quit
Asheron's Call Dark Majesty: Made another archer and was glad that I didn't have to hunt chickens. Got in a guild and spent my days worshiping the buffbot. Don't really have alot of bad memories from this game. In fact I think it have been my favorite. I quite because AC2 came out and I wanted to be on the cutting edge.
AC2: Played this game for awhile and enjoyed it somewhat, but didn't care much for character advancement. Got really sick of the buildings all being closed. And I got tired of the time I was putting into the game. Mostly it just seemed like I was playing a single player game with a bunch of other people.
Star Wars Galaxies: God was this a let down. Played this game for less then a month. Was just so boring, running for ten minutes to get killed at some stupid mission.
Everquest 2003: Decided to go back to basics and try this oldie goldie. Started a barbarian fighter and played for a month. I liked the fact that if I accidentally attacked my guildmaster he would kick my ass. I liked running from Halas and crossing that cold lake to go fight skellies in Everfrost. I was pretty overwhelmed by this game, and didn't spend time to learn it, so I quit.
Everquest 2004: Had a kid at the school I taught at who played EQ, he talked me into playing again. I started a Druid and this time with a little help from this kid and my own research I really got into the game, yet I never got past level 30. I had been in the overthere for a long time trying to get XP, and after killing my 1000th sabertooth tiger I just realized I wasn;t having fun. Plus everybody was talking about the new Gates of Disord expansion and I hadn't even gotten the lost dungeons expansion. When I set down and figured out how much money this game makes for them it makes me sick, and comming out with a new stupid expansion and bleeding another 30 dollars out of the players, thats a real nice way to say thanks.
Eve-Online: When I found out about free trials it was go time. I milked this free trial and experienced a great game. It was just a bit boring, OK sometiems mindnumbling boring, so I couldn't become an active player.
Everquest II: For some reason I thought this would be like the second comming, instead it ended up being a big flop. Almost no character customization, other then the looks. Graphics looked horrible on my GeForce3, and I was lucky to get 10 frames a second. I'm sure this is a much better game then I am giving it credit for I just didn'y like it.
Ultima Online SE: Decided to go old school and check out what had changed in this game. I did the return to Britiana free trial and found my old character still floating around as a ghost, I enjoyed this for a couple of weeks but before I knew it I was getting sick of looking at those graphics. Oh and believe it or not I got PKed when some dude talked me into going to Felucia. Got to admit that was fun.
Second Life: God this game is weird. It's living in a giant shopping mall, So much stuff flying around, appearing and whatnot, this game literally gave me a headache. After about an hour I couldn't stand to look at it anymore. It made me sick and dizzy and I almost fell out of my chair. Oh did I mention this game is werid. Oh and virtual dance clubs, what is with that, can't people find something better to do.
WWII Online: Not really a game just a giant War simualtion, I think I've died about a thousand times in a few weeks. I had alot of fun spending about 10 minutes sneaking up to this little town in the bushes, when I arrived a german came around a corner and shot me.
Thinking about trying Anarchy Online, they have a free trial. I guess World of Warcraft is the best thing going but they don't havea free trial... Any other ideas

One idea: do some soul-searching and figure out what it is you like about playing these games.
Once you figure this out...and I mean REALLY figure this out...you will find a game that you will love and stick with it for a long while.
Lmfao dude, either your lag is making you a newb or you enjoy getting owned all the time ^^
*first post*
Haha thats pretty funny though...
*sneaks in bushes for 10 minutes and gets shot the second he gets there*
Priceless.

WWII Online doesn't reward Rambo type people, you aren't an all powerful super uber d00d in that game. It took me a while to figure it out but if when I actually sit and wait for people to come to me or join up with a group it becomes a lot more fun. I end up wasting a lot less time dieing and running or driving back.
Also I like your AC2 comment, the buildings all being closed off sucks! I can't believe they call it AC"2" when in fact it is a step back from AC1 in a lot of ways.
I think you're stuck with older games with your graphics card. Perhaps give AC1 or AC2 another try when the expansions come out in a couple months.
And I must say, nicely written post. Finally someone with an intelligent summary of their experiences and in a readable format! I just noticed too you even properly double space after each sentence I don't even bother with that online.
Yeah lots of games are rambo then lots aren't.Killzone is for ps2 and man if you rush your gonna get killed alive by something or other. You HAVE to use cover or squad backup or your gonna be turned into a giant pencil.

lol @ the WWIIOL comment. When I had just started playing WWIIOL, I had just unsubscribed to PS (love WWIIOL way more). So naturally, I wanted to rambo. Man. Ramboing in WWIIOL = certain death.

Well I think I have gotten my vidoecard problem solved, right after posting this last nigth I went to Newegg and bought a 6600GT. I've got to admit that the GEForce3 Ti200 has been the greatest videocard I've ever owned.
What made me really made me mad, well atleast in the graphics department, about EQ2 was that with everything turned off the game looked only slightly better then EQ1 but got horrible frame rates. I'd been playing farcry and it looked awesome and got very good frame rates.
I've been thinking about why I play these games which is one reason why I posted this. I think lots of people, especially the kids, get into these games so they can pwne people, whatever the hell that means. I am on old AD&D player and the things that I am looking for in a game are character development, interesting plotlines, and character interaction. I guess these are things that no game will ever really be able to provide, the characters have to provide these things.
just so you know i use a GE force 3 ti 500 right now. EQ2 was bad in the cities, and zoning times were awful(doubt this stuff had to do with vid card tho), and i couldnt see the customization in faces or details on characters others probably could with their high end vid cards. On the other hand, WOW runs and looks great. Not beiing bias here, just telling you the truth.
From reading what you wrote, i think you just have a low tolerance for the grind, and getting over the initial learning hump of a mmorpg which can be frustrating at some points. Anyhow i wouldnt say you really got to know some of the games you played since your low tolerance deterred you from trying different aspects of alot of those games you played. I'm not even sure i'd reccomend an mmorpg, i'd reccomend WOW but i think you might get quest burnout and not get to the point of trying out the professions or travel around abit, so that 'll probably end up in disappointment also.
However i do think your selling yourself kinda short w/o giving some games you've played more of a chance than you have. There are 'humps' in alot of games, especially the ones that tend to have more depth, and if you ever want to see that depth/variety, then your going to have to change your gamestyle to get over some of those learning curves/humps.
Actually, I think that being a complete noob is the best time in any game It's great knowing absolutely nothing. I'll never forget my first days in EQ1 ... my first MMORPG ... I didn't have a clue and it took me seemingly forever to make it more than100 feet from the dang guards, lol. And I loved every second Now so many of us know too much ... we walk into a new game and we just know 50% of it from experience ... also they are just dumbing games down too much.
Later in games, to me the only way to make them really rewarding is people. Geting yourself in with a good bunch of people often takes a LOT of effort, but then it's the thing which really makes a game shine and which really provides rewards. Playing a second rate game with a great bunch of people beats the hell out of playing a first rate game alone.
BTW, if you want weird, try Project Entropia lol.
Im alot like you, I love mmos the first few weeks then they seem borning.
its like holidays/vacations. You get more hyped waiting for the day to come then you are when it actually happens.
In a MMO its the same thing, at first you see some cool guy run by, and be like i want to be just like him. Or i want to get to this class, or i want to get this skill etc etc etc. But once you actually acheive your initial goals then your at the point "what now?" which is when most people tend to drop out.
For example, look at ragnarok online, playing as a novice/first job sucks, what are you looking forward to? thats right second jobs, but once you hit it, your like.... okay what now? Same goes with any game. For world of warcraft(me at least) it was the prospect of getting a mount. Once i got that i was like... what now?
With city of heroes it was the travel powers at 14, then a cape/costume at 20, then aura/costume at 30 then uber power at 32, and after that it was like.... what am i waiting on now?
With Dark age of camelot, the grind there is fun, but there is quite a bit of downtime(on certain classes). Which causes you to take longer on getting to your goal, i got to 50 twice, both really fun. Got a few arts and a house, and pvped, then was like okay what now?? with catacombs out, im thinking about reactivating my account. Or just starting over again. Fresh account new characters, experience the game all over again!
But the most fun in any game is and always will be the beginning, when there are new areas to see, new items to get, classes to become, special features. Learning about the game, learning builds etc. After the noob-factor wears off, a game loses its charm.
