Problem updating to 1.5 via the NCsoft Launcher...

raykorraykor Member UncommonPosts: 326

Yesterday I read that the OB client was made available for download and so I started the NCsoft Launcher, had it check for updates, and sure enough the 1.5 patch began to download.

Yes, I know it is much slower than FilePlanet or the torrent but since there is plenty of time before the open beta begins I didn't really care.

The download was at 16% when—for a completely unrelated reason—I decided to pause the download and reboot my PC.  Since the reboot, I cannot get the NCsoft Launcher to resume the download.  When I ask it to check for updates, it flashes "trickle downloading" for a second and then says the game is ready to play but I know that I never finished the download of 1.5.

A) I was thinking that maybe the NCsoft servers are not accepting any more connections due to high load and that is why the download refuses to resume?

B) Or maybe the partial 16% download is corrupt and I should delete it so the launcher can begin from the start? (Does anyone know where the launcher places temporary files it is downloading?)

But these are just two wild guesses. Any suggestions?

P.S. Like I said, I know about FilePlanet and the torrent, but I first want to try to get the NCsoft Launcher working, even if it is slower.  Thanks.

Just try playing it. The game should still load even if the servers are not accepting connections. If it is corrupt the game should notice and flag it for updates again.

Just reachin here, but it makes sense.

I did launch the game and it loads up just fine; it does not appear to be corrupt.

I was just guessing that maybe the partial download is what was corrupt.  But again, just a guess.  I have no clue where to find that partial download file so I can't delete it to test this theory.

I am currently trying to download through the NcSoft launcher the 1.5 pack.  I'll give it this evening then will do the fileplanet download again.  It is unbeiievably slow.

I am sort of hoping this will be the last download until the regular client is playable.  It should update through the Aion game itsself after that, hopefully.

The dates for the open beta are September 6th through the 13th.  9/6/2009 - 9/13/2009.  So you should have planety of time to download the thing from somewhere.

Its really annoying that I may have to delete the old beta version and completely install and replace it with the new beta version.  NcSoft should know better.

    C:Program FilesNCSoftAionBIT4C.tmp

    That's the file(BIT4C.tmp), I believe...

I wasn't able to delete it , tho..

Windows says it's in use by another program(neither Aion or the NC Launcher was running at the time)...

EDIT: btw, that file is hidden by default.

I had similar issues.  Eventually I just downloading the CBT to OBT patch via torrent (link on AionSource).  When I went to install it basically told me to **** off and try again on the 31st (not in those words admittidly) but assured me that I had the right file.  Interestingly it's the same file as the tmp file mentioned above but I couldn't get the launcher to recognise that.  Maybe on the 31st that tmp file will magically turn into one of those ncpatch files or similar.

download the cbt to obt file from fileplanet for instance, and run to install.

Then run the ncsoft launcher and rightclick Aion and check updates. The launcher will check the integrity of the patch and ready to roll.

    simple

Aion, AoC, AC, AO, DDO, Eve, Eq2, GW, MW3, L1&2, RF, RIFT, SWG, SWTOR, TR, UO, WOW, WAR

Yea, that's what I did.  Gave up on the NCsoft Launcher.  All patched up and ready to roll.

@spoon ; Thanks. I found the hidden .tmp file and luckily it did allow me to delete it.

Yeah, the fact that it downloads the patch but doesnt really install until the 31st or something likely is causing some odd issues I'm sure.
