Well if your scared of open world PvP you probably shouldn't play a game like Aion. Because PvP will happen, it's one of the many features of the game if you bothered to research about it.
Who's scared of open pvp? check my sig
I've played UO, AC and EQ both on hardcore pvp servers, DAoC and EVE lol. Last time I checked those games were way more hadcore than Aion.
I only want options in my gameplay and for me any feature that is forced is bullshit when it comes to MMOs.
Heres the deal in WoW I have the option to roll on a pve server if I want less of a headache when I'm questing and shit. IN EQ and AC they had pve servers, DAoC you could choose your level of commitment to pvp, In Eve you have empire if you want to stay safer. Only UO had forced pvp and I've outgrown that.
So again do I have this option in Aion?
Good I love how I'm considered a carebear now, to me you guys are the carebears since you can't be looted and scammed out of years of work if you get owned in pvp.Learn to play a game with real pvp and risk maybe?
I fully support looting corpses in PvP.
Anyways, you can "avoid PvP" in Aion by never leaving the cities.
I can't get a straight answer out of anyone. I'll do some reading on the game later on today and see if the game is fully FFA or has dedicated zones, if the game does have dedicated pvp zones are all the pve dungeons and quests in these zones and does the game support ganking of lowbies. Like I said it's all about accessability and options, Why would I want to play a game that forces something on me when I have a game like WoW that lets me do whatever the hell I want? Lack of options killed lotro, killed WAR and killed AoC. Lets see if Aion also lacks player options and has forced features.
The answer your looking for is rift gates. They force pvp into most pve areas. PVP doesn't always happen when the gates open but it's a pretty sure bet it will. You can ignore them and risk being ganked and let your fellow allys hunt the enemies down to clear your side. The rifts only open every few hours. Leveling in non-rift only areas would be slow and repetative. There are no rift free servers. Petitions for rift free servers have been denied.

Remii,
The only fully dedicated pvp zone is the abyss.
No player from the opposing side can enter a new player area.
Otherwise rift gates can open up in any of the other zones. These allow players from the other side through.
There will be an announcement that a gate has opened and you will start seeing players looking for the enemy.
There is a higher lvl area in each of the sides that does not have rifts.
Some changes in 1.5 which is the release version:
A debuff the longer an enemy player is your zone or if they kill many players. The debuff consists of several components, one of which is to have that player marked on the map.
Guards will be around quest npc's.
There are several new pve only instances, The Battle Shugo and Old Poeta.
If you are vigilant then you can avoid pvp a good part of the time but you will not be able to avoid it all of the time unless you are extremely vigilant and lucky. My guess is that you will either be attacked at some point or you might even see them in the distance and you can decide to remove yourself from the area. As their names are red it's not hard to see them.
However, there are areas that opposing players can hide. Keep in mind, players WILL be looking for them and hunting them. Quite frankly, once it's known that an opposing force is in the area it won't be long until a large group is scouring the land for them.
If you die from an opposing player the penalty is practically nonexistant, especially if you don't care about abyss points.
My adivce? At least ry the game to lvl 20 and even a little bit more so that you are actually in an area with rift gates. You can then judge for yourself if you can tolerate it.
Ok that's some good info. So the Abyss and the rifts that open up every couple hours are how people pvp and I assume you also have instance pvp? So if i'm playing and want to pvp I can goto the abyss or find the rift and pvp. Now If I want to not pvp that moment I basically stay out of the abyss and watch rift warnings in my area.
Sounds decent, see that is an option. That's all I really want. Now that I know how pvp is delt with I can ask in a new thread about dungeons, crafting and class progression.

One clarification, the abyss is always a pvp zone. So if you don't want any chance of pvp then you just won't go to the abyss. However, there is a good deal of content there so you would just have to stay in one of the higher lvl areas to level or at higher level do the battle shugo instances.
Otherwise "yes" that is pretty much correct.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
this thread is a joke right? forcing people to sit at their computers to be the best is a joke it just means people with absolutely no lives will be #1
No game ever forces you to play. Nobody will come and shoot you if you are not number one.
The problem is, you believe that you have the right to be number 1 without really earning it. By default, being number 1 means being better than everyone else. This is something that should be earned.
Aion does this already with the PvP ranking system. To be Number 1, you must be better than everyone else on your side. There can only be 1 person who has this achievement on each server.
My system is just my own idea about how I'd make an MMORPG if I were designing one.
The problem with your theory is thatin a PvP ranking system you go up in rank by your activeness and kills/deaths/assists not by how many hours you've been online.
The scheme you are suggesting implies that because Jonny plays 12hrs a day he is better than Jimmy who only plays 6 hrs a day. This cmpletely disregards the fact that Jimmy knows more about his class and character than Jonny does his own and gives Jonny the glory simply because his "shift" was longer.
You arent rewarding players for being the best you are rewarding them for never logging off. How is that an accomplishment?
That's like electing a kid with mediocre grades but great attendance Valedictorian while putting the kid with a 4.0 but mediocre attendance in the middle chair of their class. Why should we strive to be the best we can be if it's all going to come down to the amount of hours we invested to get there?

Jimmy needs to level harder then.
Why should Jimmy level harder? He is already better in his class than Jonny... the only difference between the two is time spent.
I will agree that from a PvP standpoint it is good to have a 10-20, 20-30, etc level grouping and make a best 20, best 30, best 40, etc... but in a PvE atmosphere it is more an evironment for having fun and playing with your friends t achieve that high level on your own time. Not to be pressured to play countless hours a day just so that you don't lose everything you've worked for the day before.
Let's please keep in mind that we are playing video GAMES. Meant for enjoyment and fun. When a game becomes more work than fun because you constantly have to grind and dedicate your life to the grind it loses it's flare and it's attractiveness.
When a game becomes a chore it's no longer a game.
Well from personal beliefs. This Pyramid scheme is definitly a good scheme for games like Darkfall and extreme PVP games. Making a game like WoW, or nearly every other mmo it just kind of completely breaks the community. Darkfall is probably the best example and I don't believe it even haves the scheme. In Darkfall all the PvE players left. They were sick of hardcore PvP fools trolling around and killing them until the player pretty much quit. Its a cool idea, PvP, but when you give those Extreme PvP players a chance to completely sit their and knock out PvE players the game because an epeen war. I honestly love the pyramid scheme for pvp, but I don't want it to interfere with PvE. PvE is what has always made a MMORPG a RPG. Removing it, I might as well go play a shooter. Considering shooters have been around for ever and have some of the near perfect systems for ranking in a player versus player enviroment. Mr Bluray I'm very interested in why you like Aion, or at least like to troll Aion forums, when you seem like the perfect player for Darkfall? Let me guess you tried it and got killed so much you got sick of trying to be the best in the game? And then you claim to love this pyramid scheme. Hah. Your definitly here for a good laugh. This scottish guy on comedy central is definitly better.

Forgot to comment on your post. That is the exact answer I was looking for.
Video Games are here for fun and playing with friends. If you want to be the best do it out of your own accord, but it shouldn't be a chore. It just ruins the game.

Absolutely MrPhire! Glad to see someone in my corner lol!
I definately encourage free-thinking and being creative but when doing so people need to consider players' personal interests...
If you are designing a game particularly an MMO (of any kind) you always want to keep in mind your core demographic and then the "walk-on" demographic as I like to call it. Now Aion kind of went above and beyond with their PvPvE scheme...
They've made it possible to PvP and PvE in the same areas without one overpowering the other. I've heard in other threads about the gankage system through rifts... Apparantly ganking lower levels and padding your stats is a litte more challenging now. It seems Aion wants to encourage the PvPers and protect the PvErs all at the same time.
Markn12 posted in the thread : Aion PvP (anti griefing system)
"If you kill to many people who are a lower level then you outside of the abyss you will be penalized at first it will announce you are in the zone then mark you for everyone to see you. Then it will buff the 10 closest enemys to you, then it will make it so you cannot use a rift for up to 2 hrs (real life time) then it will make it so you cannot be rezzed inside an enemy zone.
There will be debuffs to the people also just not sure on the %s yet but we will see during OB
This system IS NOT to stop ganking/griefing it is a system to make it easier for pickup groups to take out Gank groups who get together on purpose to go to the other side and cause havoc (which can be fun but wont last long it gets boring)"
So as you can see we'll be able to rift into enemy lines and do some damage but not to the extent that the game will become unbalanced or unfair to the other players. If you wanna go play "bully" you can but be ready for the consequences...
I personally LOVE a good challenge and will probably use this feature as an event between me and my friends maybe to see who can last the longest after being marked... or who can get the most ganks before being brought down...
Now sure this will probably chase off the players who want only to PvE but in all honesty if all you care about is grinding and getting kool armor... why are you even playing MMOs? Go grab a copy of Elder Scrolls or Might and Magic and tear it up.

This just shows your limited understanding of the motivations of others in MMO; this may be good for you, but it's not good for others. A well designed MMO will be able to pull people with different ideas of how they want to play into the same game. I do not believe that there is enough of a market for a purely PVP game, at least not enough to get the numbers that companies like NCSoft are looking for. If you close off a portion of a game to others by allowing anti-social behaviour you limit the scope of the game and quite frankly if the money isn't there then the development becomes stifled.

Now this is coming froma guy who loves lore and love pve ok. PvP is one of those features that in today's gaming age is inevitable. Because honest to god it is very very fun. If executed correctly. My biggest example of the best online game ever doesn't exist. It's an anime/game. The DotHack series really puts in perspective all MMO worlds. It is definitly unlike any and all MMOs. But nearly all boss battles that are difficult in the game and the big baddies in the series are all forms of a PC (Player Charecter). Every MMO should implement Open World PvP in specific places. And they should be monitored for griefers. Now there are also the specific amount of games that shouldn't. Mainly because the devs blow at incorporating it correctly. *Cough*WoW*Cough*WAR*Cough*. To be honest WAR was the very first game that made me realize PvP is just as fun as PvE, but I still love taking down that big boss. That's not gunna change. But I do love PvPvE aka Open World PvP that rewards the player. My favorite times in WoW were when me and my guild would go against ally outposts etc. It just gives you a feeling that you can still play against NPCs and PCs. Do I like BGs, SCs, or ABs or what other crap the previous MMO set up as an instance PvP setting, not so much. Do I love objective based World PvP, definitly. Now that isn't your jist of your post, but it just goes to show that PvP shouldn't be left out. Now on to your post. There is already a purely PvP game out there. Its Darkfall. They have their game. Let them stay there. The bigger fact is that no-one suggested making the game purePvP. They just said the system is nice and functional and they like it in a game. PvPers tend to want to PvE too.

By no means am I suggesting that Aion (or any other MMO) be purely PVP. I definitely enjoy a good boss/dungeon raid and reaping the rewards. The point I was trying to make was that a player only interested in PvE ALONE would be pointless since PvP is such a huge part of MMO gaming. Yes, you can always try for the better gear and rare drops but once you get them all you cant go any further until the devs put out a new patch... So what do you do in the meantime... PvP! you put that sweet armor u just snagged to good use.
Also, that post explained how the PvE players would be able to defend themselves against PvP only players. I was praising Aion devs for creating an environment where both PvE and PvP players can play together and against each other without unbalancing the game. I was by no means saying death to all grinders.
hat's all I was saying. If I was only interested in PvP I wouldn't have picked this game I would have chosen Darkfalls or just gone back to console FPS.

I apologize, I didn't mean to come across hostile lol!
Just love a good argument! But i do agreee that these forums seem to get a little heated sometimes. I kinda like it though... makes em interesting to watch.
I'm not against pvp, and I believe that it's needed to give a different set of goals to achieve, and activities to do: unfortunately I see Aion as being mostly a pvp game with very little pve and most of that very uninteresting. Not to mention there seems to be a lot of self-styled "hardcore" pvp players who's only goal in life is to make other people's gaming experience very miserable.
As for your tone, it did come across with a lot of arrogance and dissing of pve. Obviously I misread it. My aplogies.
No need for apologies... lol I'm a Scot... I sometimes get riled up but it's all in good fun.
And I didnt mean to sound anti-PvE... I was thinking on a more don't put one over the other mindset.
Yea, the majority of vids, reviews on Aion are about PvP but you also have to keep in mind who made those vids and reviews. Also most of them are beta testers... who were testing what they, personally, were gonna be looking for in the game.
From what I've seen there will be an amazing PvE system as well... I think the last quote I heard was either 1500 or 1800 quests and that was before 1.5.... Also i've heard a rumor ( not sure if it's true or not) that the bosses change on random respawns. (Meaning boss "A"'s defense might be more the next time around or 2 days later his attack might go up... ) Again it was a rumor and I've not tested it out myself. ut if it is true I think that wuld add to the fun knowing you each respawn will need a diff party scheme or battle plan...
Also new patches will include PvE content as the game develops and grows and the devs see a demand for more content.

Why?
Well if your scared of open world PvP you probably shouldn't play a game like Aion. Because PvP will happen, it's one of the many features of the game if you bothered to research about it.

Yes, there are "ways" to avoid PvP entirely if you want to.

Remii,
The only fully dedicated pvp zone is the abyss.

Hrmm..... Sounds like an echo.

This guy called OP, have some retard ideas ROFLMAO LOL!
EDIT: People really need to land on earth cmone ffs. Try to have both socks on the ground level!
So dont dismiss the game just yet...
