Yeah it's definitly gunna be high up there. I have been expecting it sence 2 years ago when the initial rumors poped up. Fanboys can go blow a hole in the water. GW2 and GW1 is definitly a MASS MULTIPLAYER ONLINE ROLE-PLAYING GAME. Some have seem to forgotten the meaning of an MMORPG. GW2 is just not going to be as linear as its predeccesor which is a godsend. GW1 only true flaw was its reliance on its instanced world. Its the same reason that I would never want dot.hack.sign to become a MMORPG. I don't want to just jump from town to instance over and over again. Even though those instance world Open worldt in .hs I still wouldn't want it. Bah im rambling now :P

How long have you been at this site?

Every newly entered MMO starts off with max hype. It deteriorates over time into what its stable hype level will be.

In other words, wait a couple of weeks to see the true hype level.

That's also why SW:TOR and Aion magically dropped from 8.51 to 8.45. It'll even back out.

QFT, when a new MMO enters the charts it "breaks" other MMOs for a while, don't worry as they'll stabilize soon. It's nothing to do with fanboy or hater swarms, but a system overall calculation instead.

I don't think it's any surprise. But I think what he was saying is that because GW is like the WoW of F2P that most people either Love it or Hate it, giving it's new model/game a lower hype rating than the current hyped games. Of course Hype jumps ship, its natural.

That's not the point. It doesn't matter what hype people give it now because it's not stabilized yet. It's a system problem with MMORPG.com. Like I said, wait a while before you believe the hype level. Yeah, it sounded like the OP thought people were giving GW2 0's and 1's, and "upping" their game's hype level, but that doesn't make any sense, either. Just read some of the hype comments people posted and they're mostly positive, which leads me to believe that GW2's final hype level will still be in the top 7; probably #3 or 4.

I think I understood what you meant, it was kind of tricky though.

Yea was quite surprised that GW2 took the cake, was expecting to place high but 8.6 that's insane and just blew out TOR.

It's new so people are going to vote it high... give it a few more weeks and it's score will come back into line with those that have been around a bit longer.

Another Fantasy MMO? shoot me now.

Yeah I completely agree. I was just stating the natural view of how a person would be surprised in it's massive jump to number 1 for some time. I do concur it'll be around the top 7.  There still is quite some time till it's release. It's like waiting for a Square Enix game to hit the states. IT TAKES FOREVER!

Sure, but i didn't expect it to enter the charts THAT high, either. Some people almost despise GW1 because it's instanced, has no monthly fee, and isn't really a true RPG, either. And my quote was a real one and it's obvioulsy one of those knee-jerk hater-comments. I expected more of that and GW2 not really becoming one of the top-games. Looks like i was wrong ^^

I guess ArenaNet's strategy of complete silence for 2 years has worked out. Now fans of the game pretty much fill the cup every time something new about GW2 comes out. ;)

  • Joker2240Joker2240 Member Posts: 664

OR it could be the fact that only 150 people have voted so far. Mean while the other games on that list already has thousands that have voted... So yeah...

Is there a point to the hype meter?

In anycase it's on my most wanted list of games for sure.

Not on the top anymore...wonder if this thread had anything to do with that... ;)

From what I have read... that heavly instanced world of GW1 will be the same as GW2.  That is why I am waiting for more information to come out before I make any decision to keep on following GW2. I hate it when they say extensive instanced gameplay, sends chills down my spine.

Only missions and dungeons are instanced. The rest will be a massive online persistent world.

I hope it stays on top I hope the game I am waiting for falls off the hype chart. Hype is not good for a game, because it sets unreal expectations.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI

"How is Guild Wars 2 different from other MMOs?

While Guild Wars 2 adds a persistent-world experience, it retains the unique characteristics of the original game, including strong narrative, extensive instanced gameplay, anti-grind design philosophy, and strong support for competitive play"

Which is where the majority of the experience gains and loot will come from.  I love to solo, but I can't stand soloing in instances where there are no living people running around doing their thing.  Am I suppose to grind low XP mobs in the persistant areas?  As a soloer, the original GW felt dead and lifeless to me and hardly different from a single player game.  I had hoped they would offer just as much questing and story through the persistant parts for those of us who don't like being walled off from the rest of the community.  I may not like to group, but I WANT to see other players running around, not a bunch of lifeless NPC's.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

Well your opinion of the interpretation of EXTENSIVE INSTANCED GAMPLAY is definitly mistakened. In multiple current interviews they completely state that the way GW1 was set up instanced wise was a downfall. What they did say is because of their own flaw they now know how to instance well. So take WoW for example. It has EXTENSIVE INSTANCED GAMEPLAY. It has instances and dungeons and raids and BGs all instanced. So sorry sir, but I believe you are sadly mistaken. What they did say that wracked me up, was that quests might be instanced. Which is completely awkward. So we'll see in coming months.

Well, GW2 isn't out yet, still in development stages-no beta as yet. So, I can't help but wonder why it is getting the high hype marks it is getting?  Everything is based on speculation-does that warrent a high hype of the game? You tell me.  With all of this said, I do look forward to the progress of the game. Until then, Aion, is the game to play!
