This is one of the few MMO's I have true hope for in the upcoming years.

it is not really strange that gw" is something people are looking forward too: gw is the mmo that sold second most boxes: more than & million copies aint bad for a lowbudget game:

I was really excited when I saw the trailer. Forget the facts, figures and numbers, I loved Guild Wars for what it is. Fun.

Though, within a few minutes of coming onto MMORPG today, I can already see the foundations for all-out war. You all know what I mean. No need to explain.

Hype is hype, and the game will be what it is.

And as soon as Beta is out, I'm there :P

Unfortunately, Guild Wars 2 is falling victim to one of the main issues with this site - ignorance. Simply reading through some of the comments on the hype meter is rather entertaining. Where many of those people get their information from is beyond me. They're complaining about instances for the most part - WTF?

The other problem is that many have not played Guild Wars and are blinded by their hype for SW:TOR and other games. Just like with Warhammer and Age of Conan. I wish these MMO's all the best, but I have a feeling many are going to come running looking for another game to hype. ArenaNet, for one, have proven themselves.

And lastly, the Overview description of the game doesn't really do it many favours. It makes it sound like a second-rate F2P game.

Well, looking at the way that GW2 has started the hype machine, I'm pretty sure GW2 will stay on top pretty long. The way Anet has teased us so far is just way too painful. :D

You tell me.  With all of this said, I do look forward to the progress of the game. Until then, Aion, is the game to play!

I don't believe it's total speculation. We have ArenaNet and NCSofts' reputations to go by. ArenaNet has a very positive reputation with most GW fans and have shown to be very talented. I don't see any reason to doubt they can produce another winner in GW2. I would say the hype is warrented due to past history and success of ArenaNet.

Look at it this way, If it were Funcom or Aventurine putting something new out I would question any hype because of their reputations. If Blizz or Bioware is putting out a game you can bet it will be quality, maybe not your playstyle, but "quality" never the less.  I would put ArenaNet in the same class as Blizz or Bioware.

For a true MMO player instances are a game killer.

Lets all go play an MMO and go play alone in our own little instance. No thanks I think Ill just go play a single player RPG game. There is much better content there anyways.

I am not one to throw the immersion argument out alot, but instances rape immersion.

GW is just a multiplayer online RPG. There is nothing massive about.

I am sure you fangirls out there are going to get your panties in a knot but if you cant understand why people dislike instances you dont need to be on the forums complaining about people who complain about instances.

I crave the day when we will see 1 MMO world, again.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)

Umm that's nice and all but this is the Guild Wars 2 forum, not Guild Wars 1. People really should look up the FAQ on the game before spouting off nonsense on the game forums and looking foolish.

It doesn't even really have to do with high votes. That's the thing.

When they add a new game, even if only one person hypes it 10, it'll soar to the top, because its average hype will be 10. It's the smaller sampling of votes that gives new games the advantage here.

I didn't really mean to target you, I was speaking in general. People tend to spout off opinions without doing any kind of research. I shouldn't have quoted you, sorry about that. I am just a bit tired of all the mis information being spread about.

GW2 isnt rated high becuase its new....its rated high because a high majority of MMO gamers are sick of the same old mmorpgs thats have been coming out for the past 2+ years.

I personally think GW2 will be one of the most played online games since WoW at its peak, simply because its very unique from other titles out now. Even those who looked past GW1 because they didnt like the instanced world will likely be giving GW2 a shot at some point...And I'd bet that the majority of the players who try it will continue to play it off and on for years to come.

No I'm not a GW2 fanboy...I read the forums here and non-stop complaining. A game such as GW2 will likely peak a huge interest in the market right now. I know I'll have a hard time dropping whatever MMO am playing when its released but the temptation to aleast try it will overwhelm me, I'm sure.

Hate the game all you want, but you can't deny that the Guild Wars series is probly the most unique MMO we've seen released in years. If GW2 is similar to GW1 it should produce a large following.

    Amen, totally agree

Sick of guild wars bashers/haters declaring their disdain for the instances used in guild wars 1 and the naive assumption that guild wars 2 is going to follow the same format. Read some FAQs for god's sake. Sure Guild Wars 1 was questionable as a complete MMO but they are completely different games. /rantover

The hype struggle has actually been interesting to watch as the fan boys and haters struggle between 10 and 1 ratings. The future is looking good with Guild Wars 2 on the horizon.

Hype is all fine and good, but I would not make any assumptions before playing or gathered enough information about the game.  At this stage, there are simply not enough information to make a proper decision.

    Edited: spelling...

Just incase anyone hasn't mentioned it; wildly swinging hype ratings aren't uncommon on this site. All it really takes is a handful of people with some time to waste and a massive hard on for a specific game.

of course there is enough information.

    it's GW1 with a presistant world.

    10/10.

Hype is useless, on this site anyways.

Everytime a new big title gets mentioned everyone who is bored with all the current games latch on to it and decide it will be the one that will be fun for them again. Then they work themselves up and start posting threads like this game will be number 1, this game will be the next big thing, this game is innovative blah blah blah.

Then they get in fights with the people who don't think the game will be good, and the threads become that.

Finally the game gets released and the people who hyped themselves up incredibly high find that the game can not match that hype, so then they switch from this game will be awesome threads to posting fail posts about how the game could of been something amazing but the devs messed it up or didn't listen.

This is followed with a few I told you so posts and the game ends up at a normal level that it should of been held at all along, and the disappointed hyped up person latches onto the next big title to be released and repeats the process.

Bottom line people need to stop thinking how amazing the next game will be and wait patiently for release and go into it with a blank slate mind of what it will play like. They'll be happier, the devs will be happier and the people who don't think the game will be good will be happier and not have any posts to argue in.

GW2 and GW1 is definitly a MASS MULTIPLAYER ONLINE ROLE-PLAYING GAME. Some have seem to forgotten the meaning of an MMORPG. GW2 is just not going to be as linear as its predeccesor which is a godsend. GW1 only true flaw was its reliance on its instanced world. Its the same reason that I would never want dot.hack.sign to become a MMORPG. I don't want to just jump from town to instance over and over again. Even though those instance world Open worldt in .hs I still wouldn't want it. Bah im rambling now :P

From what I have read... that heavly instanced world of GW1 will be the same as GW2.  That is why I am waiting for more information to come out before I make any decision to keep on following GW2. I hate it when they say extensive instanced gameplay, sends chills down my spine.

Might i state that the developers have already released information concering instances? They have been steadily releasing information ever since they put out their trailer. Now is the time to keep checking the official gw2 website. They developers have stated that the game is going to be a fully persistant MMO and will only uses instances for Dungeons and certain Story telling elements such as missions.

I agree with this. Which is why Iam not getting hyped right now
