Long term, once you get goin on questing and stuff, you just keep goin and goin.
Im enjoying the hell out of this game, but it is my 1st super hero game. Theres a bit of a novelty to it for me.
The one thing I thought was goin to bother me, well, there were a few things actually that bothered me when I started to play. All of my worries seems to have been resolved. The game is good, maybe not for everyone, but for me. its a hell of alot of fun.
For me I don't make any game my life and for this game I think that will be a good thing. You move fastly through the content and I think many will be at the end very soon. I think it will be worth the $50 and the $15 each time they come up with new content. Is it big enough to live day in and out inside of? Honestly I don't think so, but some people are such that they can do the same things over and over and over forever and ever.
Certainly a game I was enjoying so much in beta I didn't want to put it down.
Or If i did, 20 minutes to an hour later I was back at pulling late ones through the night.
Not a long term one in respect to how many months I expect to be playing it, I think I'll level cap in the first few weeks and have seen pretty much all there is to see and do by the end of the month.
I have it planned in my mind for a one month ride. Maybe 400 hours playtime then on to the next game. I don't expect there will be much in the way of endgame content hang around for and I'm not an "endless alts" type of player, more of an avatar kind of guy.
If all you care about is how your avatar looks and what his powers look like there is a lot to consume your time as you cycle through various concepts.
If you want an immersive and involving world that you gives you the feeling of being a character in a real comic....then this game is not for you.
Its a truely Awesome avatar creator attached to the dullest and most simplistic world and quest game you will ever encounter.
played beta 1-12 and 1-25 and guessing itl take one month, perhaps two to reach max lvl at casual gameplay time. After that well... Id say one would be on and off on every new expansion... but for now Id say about a 2month life span, so long term no. But a good short term game I believe it to be
I am curious if the only people who say its a long term game fall under the category of "fanboy". Judging from my experiences with the title as well, the game is short. Once you get past the newness of it all, you see the same mechanics repeated throughout the entire game. In other words, if you have seen it once, you have seen it all. You will get to end game fast, and End Game will consist of people just making alts and starting all over. This is an alt game, which is no surprise Crypic wants to charge more for extra character slots.
Once you get past the newness of it all, you see the same mechanics repeated throughout the entire game.
Not sure what you mean by that. You get the Nemesis system at level 25 and the UNITY system at level 40. Those are both systems that are introduced as you level up. You get to them quite a while after the newness wears off.
UNITY has a fair amount of end game content. Cryptic already announced plans for a big content patch in a couple months. It could be a level cap raise. I know CoX got a level cap raise shortly after launch. Also, one of the devs recently posted that they got some new level design tools that should let them create content a bit faster.
I really believe that there will be more to the end game than rerolling alts.

If the Devs are promising a big content patch in a couple of months then my advice is wait until that patch is released then sub up.
Really, why is it that we always have a train of people on these forums telling us "it will get better after release... in a couple of months..." for every single release?
History says that it will take at least twice as long as any pre-release estimate.

Dude you're right about one thing. Its always in our best interest to wait a few months after the release of ANY and ALL MMOG's before buying. Every MMOG ever released gets some big big updates in the first few months after release. CO will be no different.
theres also the fact that most mmos sometimes have a few remaining kinks to be ironed out after launch, open beta or not i always keep the mindset that an mmo wont be picture perfect right at launch. Though depending i am usually willing to pick one up on or shortly after launch as i am going in expecting such things i wont be all immature and complain lol. ill be curious to see what sorts of updates they'll work into CO

Thats a bit of an assumption. AoC for example...instead of getting big updates it got more bugs and broken systems. The players had to wait months for any real improvement and added content. Closer to a year than any set amount of months. Im not sure if they even put in that promised "dirx 10 support" yet which was supposed to come out at launch. There is just way to much assumption that CO might magically get better with more content. For all you know it might be part of their MT business model...charge more for new locations and level increase. At this point, its best just to leave CO alone in my opinion and wait a few months at least.
Well for most other companies you can't really depend on them fixing anything or adding any real content anytime soon. Cryptic however I think like turbine has a history of coming out with frequent content updates. They did it with COH and I'm guessing they are planning to do it with COH. If they were smart they would have developed tools along with the game to facilitate the rapid implementation of new content.
Anyway I'd give Cryptic a good chance of actually releasing a high quality content update 2-3 months after release. This game doesn't feel anything like AoC which was incomplete, buggy and had a ton of issues at release. Funcom was scrambling to keep the game afloat. That aside AoC is in pretty reasonable shape now.
Certainly a game I was enjoying so much in beta I didn't want to put it down. Or If i did, 20 minutes to an hour later I was back at pulling late ones through the night.

baff its unhealthy to play a video game 100 hours a week, you only work 40 hours a week at a typical job, a normal person sleeps maybe 60 hours a week, so to spend all the time a person like me works and sleeps justing playing an mmo? yeesh, get help brother!
baff its unhealthy to play a video game 100 hours a week, you only work 40 hours a week at a typical job, a normal person sleeps maybe 60 hours a week, so to spend all the time a person like me works and sleeps justing playing an mmo? yeesh, get help brother!
I wish I got more than 8 hours of sleep a night. 8 x 7 = 56. Granted it isn't that much more, but I'm just being a jerk. Anyways, according to research and crap (lol surveys), people get less than the average 8. So, the normal person would be getting less than the 56 hours of sleep anyways.
Anyways, I'm just being a jerk on that, and 100 hours a week is a bit overkill. That means you have about 14 hours a day of playing. (Google calculator says 14.2857143) So that leaves about 8 hours of sleep. So, unless you sleep very little, or play literally all day on the weekend, I have a hard time seeing him have a job. Unless it's like an hour or two shift.
Math all in one spot
Assuming 8 hours of sleep.
8 x 7 = 56
Plays the same amount every day.
100 / 7 = 14.3
Take that 8 hours of sleep with game play.
8 + 14.3 = 22.3
Take that out of the day...
24 - 22.3 = 1.7
So, that leaves him with 1.7 hours a day to work. All assuming he plays the same amount every day, and gets 8 hours of sleep. If he did the (so called) minimum 6 hours, it would give him 3.7 hours a day.
We can try and see about sleeping 6 hours a day, and playing all those hours awake on the weekend...
6 x 7 = 42
Let's do the weekend first, to see how many hours of gaming he has left.
48 - 12 = 36, So take that out of 100, 100-36 = 64
The rest of the week now.
64 / 5 = 12.8
So, he would have to play 12.8 hours a weekday, add the sleep.
12.8 + 6 = 18.8, 24 - 18.8 = 5.2
So, with that time taken, he would have 5.2 hours a day to work.
5.2 x 5 = 26
So, he could work a max of 26 hours, not including anything else in this math (showers, eating, driving, etc.)
Nothing personal on this post, not assuming anything. Just doing some really simple math because I'm bored on a Saturday before a party tomorrow.
I am curious if the only people who say its a long term game fall under the category of "fanboy". Judging from my experiences with the title as well, the game is short. Well if this is the case they haven't learned a single bit from CoX.
Seeing already how the PVP is set up in this game. It's pretty much a pointless Hero bashfest like it was in CoX.
And with endgame I guess you have a zone like that Invasion thing in CoX you can repeat over and over and over till you get bored out of your skull.
Definitely not a long term play game. Doesn't offer anywhere near the depth of some other mmo's which may be considered long term. It certainly is, much like CoX, a very play for a month here and there style game. Great for those that are into that kind of more casual style of play.
Games I've played a long time, DAOC, WOW and EVE. I'm sure others out there played them a short time and dropped them.
Same with COH/COV, I played them about 1/3 months respectively and lost interest. I have friends who played them for several years and enjoyed them immensely.

It had it as an option the last time I played AoC. Looks great (although it was still being optimized at the time).
Actually, AoC is quite a sweet game now, especially for PvP; many problems have been sorted out (e.g. levelling gaps), although some have been introduced (e.g. PvP points encouraging perpetual gankfests at rez points). Still the best-looking MMORPG out there at the moment (although LOTRO in Dx10 has its moments too, with a maxed-out Vanguard - in certain showcase areas of its vast, but somewhat unfinished world, anyway - coming third).
But more importantly, AoC's melee combat system, while not as big a leap as originally claimed, is still an incremental improvement on all other MMORPG melee combat, and depends on player skill enough to give the game some longevity just from that. (You can play it shallow, but the better you are as a player, the more you get from it.)
Speaking for myself, I never thought I'd play CoX longer than a few months, but I just kept coming back for more and ended up playing it for 3 years. If I get even half as much pleasure out of CO, I'll be happy.
Anyway, isn't this all academic - isn't everybody who's anybody an MMO-hopper these days? Who sticks with a game for months on end these days anyway? Don't we all have at least a couple of subscriptions on the go at any one time, and switch between them? (I exaggerate of course - but I think this has been a definite trend, and it's actually quite enjoyable, because each time it's like revisiting somewhere you were on holiday before!)
