Alt Mania Anonymous

Hello,

"I'm gonna' say it again, Like I do every week For those who don't know me

My Name is Malakhon and  I have Alt-Mania."

(This is where you say "Hello Malakhon")

"My addiction started like any other.  I didn't have to hurry into the head-start launch event. I could make any name I wanted. Super Patriot or USA would be there when I wanted to log in. So I made up a Spartan Warrior, I revelled in my ability to go with a variety of different choices for how he was going to look. I named him simply "Sparta" and then proceeded down the Single Sword path.

Then I ask myself "But is Dual Sword basically the same thing except you get MORE attacks?

And then I created a Qular after a few more bouts with the open ended game design that allows me to play anything I want (but makes Respecing more painful than a prostrate exam at Edward Scissorhand's house). My Qular was a gadgeteer who could dig his way out of trouble. He focused on his munition bots, but they are too stupid to draw aggro away from me and they will start firing at rocks and chairs and if I just them on aggressive, so they weren't enough.

So after my 30th character or so, in three days, I realized I had hit bottom. I had played every possible initial power set more than once....now I was just hybriding for the sake of hybriding, any fix, any character concept, it didn't matter. I had to create another Alt.

I am here to open this meeting, people...who wants to tell their story next?"

I have spent more time creating characters than actually playing in City of Heroes.

Seemingly it is my favourite occupation in quite some games to create new characters.

Even in games whose (visual) character creation is not even remotely as extensive as what Cryptic has built.

Can't wait to create my own races in Startrek Online. ;)

    Hi, my name is Jufo

    (*Hi jufo*)

I started, as many,in World of Warcraft. I thought gnomes looked cool and liked the idea of a rogue, so I made one. A few levels in, I made a new one to try another class, then another one, and then I heard all my friends played on another server, then I made some characters there, never making it past leel 20, out of sheer boredom. I tried leveling one as far as I could, but never made it past 50, and in that time numerous alts on numerous servers and races were made, before I ultimately left, just to find another MMO to host my Alt-mania: City of Heroes

City of Heroes actually had me level a hero all the way to max level, but with the result, that as soon as that 50 dinged in, I immediatly logged out and made new alts.

during the Champions Open Beta, I somehow managed to stick to a single character (partly due to the game lagging so much, that I lost any interest in even consider an alt) but I fear, that once I get my improved graphics card, that Maybe Champions Character Creator will conquer me or another game will - possibly DC universe, or maybe I give in and try Star Wars: TOR or another of the upcoming MMOs

I had "altitis" (as I've more usually seen it called) big time in CoX, and I'm looking forward to getting it in CO again. 8 slots won't be enough (wish I could have afforded the lifeteime sub just now).

Especially with such a humungous character gen, it actually gets quite like a minor form of art; I get quite deeply into sculpting both the looks and the abilities (and the biog) of my characters.

Usually, it would be like a "race" between my characters - I'd have a favourite for a few days, then switch to another and get a burning hot fever for that one for a week, then make a new toon, then go back to one of my older characters, have an intense spurt of levelling with that one, then make a new toon, then go back to the first one, then make a new toon, then delete some toons I wasn't happy with, etc., etc., etc.  I'd  end up with a box of toys that I intensely loved, and after a few had been levelled to max, I could play whichever one suited my mood at the time.

It's really a form of gameplay all on its own, sort of using the game as a RPG character sculpting kit.
