Character Skills

I am kinda curious about character skills. I understand that there is no class system (which is a total plus to me!) Does anyone know how this will work?

Is it going to be that you have X number of skill slots and you can pick any skills you like or will you have to pick an area of specialization?

I must admit I only found out about this game in the last week *blush* It sounds really neat, I hope they can pull it off!!!

I haven't played it yet so I can't give you much of an insight although the open skills system is one main reason I like this game.

I would guess it would be something like this.

Go into you characteristics and you will see a list of all the skills...if you go attack someone with a sword you will gain points for that...if you go chop down a tree you will gain those points...you have the freedom to do anything and there is no choosing what skills you want. Every player can do everything, and you may also specialise in certain fields if thats the way you want to build up your character. I think this is the best way to make the gameif you need food you can go out and fish it/make it/buy it. But then that wont stop you from making your own armour because you are not the right class.

I hope that makes some senses and helps you out a bit. Otherwise someone may post here who has played and knows a lot more then me. Or I could try and explain better in a PM.

Sounds very much like the ultima online approach.
