Final Fantasy XIV for PS3 confirmed with keyboard and mouse support.

TrunkosoTrunkoso Member Posts: 20

Hiromichi Tanaka, game's producer, confirmed it in this interview

"Tanaka confirmed that the game is most certainly portable to other platforms if the need arises, but at the moment their focus is on the PC and PS3 versions; any announcements or releases of other platforms will come as those two are finished. Another thing to note is that the PS3 version also supports a keyboard and mouse, making it the second full-scale PS3 title to support such a feature. More details will be released on this control method before the game launches"

As it can be read in these lines.

These are great news because it means PC controls won't be gimped because of PS3 not having mouse control.

Wondering how PC controls were "gimped" because a console didn't support mouse?

Also, wondering where all the "PC > Console solely because of keyboard & mouse"  supporters are???

Even the PS2 had the capability of keyboard and mouse control... it is and has always been up to the game developer to include it in the games.

Obviously a lot if not most PC gamers would prefer to use a mouse on their PC although I know plenty who use a controller (similar to xbox or ps2/ps3 controller) on thier PC's for games.   My point was I always see people saying MMO's don't work on consoles because of no keyboard/mouse support.

I'm just hoping that the Hardcore PC  only gamers will not look at us "console" gamers as inferior.    I have both PC and Consoles and I have always preferred playing on the console for my own reasons.  I just don't like running around by typing keys on a keyboard for one -- or pointing to an area and clicking then watch my character move there.  I want to be in total control and I feel I have that with a control pad.

PC gamers like to use a mouse. Shocking isn't it?

Lol, i didnt realize that it was a way of life.... I started on a PS 2 and played a little bit on a pc (when i actually had money to afford one!). Now, I have a PS3 and a PC.. For it will be more about accessability than it will a preference of a mouse or a controller (for me that is). If the game is good, the peripherals will not matter. Its all about experience for me. I will probably end up playing it more on my PC..

well you can use any of them, if it allows to use both systems at once it would be great.

They're having in mind both control setups, i don't think anyone will get advantages, it is just that some people likes mouse and keyboard more, in my opinion, i think that having dual stick, one for character's movement and other for the camera is badass.

I hope the beta comes soon and that this PC vs PS3 compatibility  stuff is cleared up. Its really the only thing I sometimes catch myself worrying about. To be honest though, this will be my game for the next few years. A FF game on PS3, just so convenient for me. By the time Im done with FF14, it will only be to move on to SEs next console mmo.

Wonder what kind of support they'll have for the wireless keypads...

I'm really not crazy about buying a wireless mouse and keyboard for my PS3, not after dropping 50 bucks for the keypad, maybe it'll work the same and I'll just have to buy a mouse.  Console gaming is extremely comfortable with MMOs (found that out with FFXI on PS2) my ass likes to fall asleep sitting in even a comfortable computer chair and it always makes my back ache like I'm 85 years old.

PLus after playing WoW (Hate to admit it) for 3 years I find that after marathon stints my fingers twitch uncoltrollably in my sleep from mashing hotkeys.

@ the post above-  I agree I'm definately sticking with SE this time.  I played FFXI on PC first then switched to console for, as I said, comfort, and then like many of my friends made the mistake of venturing to WoW with promises of glory and riches in a new land, only to find a bunch of whiney mouthy kids in place of cool, classy FFXI players.

Watch out! If this game doesn't have some level of time commitment to be truly excellent, we will see some of thosekids on our servers!!!  :P

    OMG...

    Don't scare me like that.

I'm hoping for the EQ vs. WoW mentality.. You know kinda like how playing WoW is much more "sociably acceptable" than playing EQ is/was.  So maybe WoW will stay more acceptable than playing FFXIV will so we'll all be viewed as Final Fantasy Nerds and most of them will stay where they are so they're not labeled negatively in their precious microcosms.

And if that doesnt work we can always hold bunnies for ransom.

    Edited for redundancy

Wtih a  keys and a mouse you have so much control its not even funny. AS say with FFX1 or WoW or even lotro. Not to say that play on a PC with FPS is not a plus. Take a look how we ( PC ) can aim so well with the Mouse. The "Total Control" is in the eye of the person that is play.

but as a PC player and Console player .. my pc player says ... LAWLS on you sir :D

In ffxi you couldnt tell who was on PC and who was on a console. I trust FFXIV will be the same in  that regards. People on console to the contrary of what PC users think were just as effective. I claimed Faf several times Nid once along with Beh. and KB. all on the good ole PS2.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI

     Hi there, QFT! =)
I loved spanking PC users while on ps2 and x360 console controllers in ballista btw lulz

  • I played FFXI on PC but with a dual-analog controller and liked it more than keyboard/mouse.  It just feels more natural to me to move around with an analog stick rather than with mouselook.  Plus being able to control your character independently of the camera is a nice plus.

ya I like gamepad more than keyboard/mouse, in champions online I run circles around the keyboard/mouse people.  They cant keep up with me cuz wasd is just too slow for movement.  Plus I played FF11 on PC and 360, I found gamepad better imo.
