    What are your specs?

Why are the screenshots cut in half?

  • NihilanthNihilanth Member Posts: 1,357

    2 things:

    My system specs are

    3.2Ghz Intel P4
    1GB Crucial PC3200 RAM
    128MB ATI Radeon 9600XT

I CAN run it that high, but when I did I only got about 3 frames per second. lol

also, the screens arent cut in half, they just take up more than the sscreen, you have to use the slider at the bottom of your screen to move to the right side.

Sorry to be a downer, but I have seen better on lower spec systems.  Maybe the SOE staff should have taken lessons on modeling from the modelers of the Korean games Risk your Life and Gate to Heaven.  Despite those games limited aspects, they offer pretty good graphics for very low system reqs.

Eq2 is designed for the future, so it will look good in 3 or 4 years down the road, not so everyone can play it at max right now, or have it looking exactly like the official pictures.  the devs have said that already

I will not upgrade my computer just to play this game

  • Bobjones1303Bobjones1303 Member Posts: 680

okay, then don't, but SOE shouldn't ruin everyone else's game by downgrading their product so you can play

give it a few years, once people get new computers, most of which can play Eq2, then you will hear much less "complaining" image

I have this game and have been playing it for about a month. I also have a pc with virtually identical specs to yours. The game does indeed look gorgeous and it plays very well too (nice animations, combat is easy to get into etc). My flatmate however is running it on my older pc and it lags terribly.

Unfortunately I think most (if not all) of SOE's attention went on the games look rather than the content. Once you get used to the good graphics it was not long before I realised how repetitive the gameplay is. Maybe I expect too much but the quests are extremely dull and samey. You basicly go and kill x number of creatures and although they all look different they basicly act in the same way (cast spells when/if they can and run straight at u and repeatedly bash you). They never run away, use tactics or do anything involving use of AI, so in effect you fight the same creature over and over again through the entire game! Apart from crafting (which is good but very slow and tedious) the combat is more or less THE game so its odd that so little thought seems to have gone into it.

Its also odd that a game with a good and evil city contesting each other does not allow any form of pvp. I am playing a dwarf in the game and I DESPISE the fact that an evil player (troll, ogre, dark elf or ratman) can wander up to me and ask me to join in a group with it. Its ridiculous! Basicly I can fling words at a troll (my races most hated foe) but I cant do anything other than that which really sucks to be honest. What dwarf worthy of his beard would ever let a troll walk away alive? (lol)

It looks like originally SOE intended it to be pvp and then ran out of time or funding halfway through and instead dropped the pvp but left the original story in. I dont actually mind the lack of pvp but to allow and encourage the good and evil races to work together just seems silly and ruins what is already a repetitive game.

Sorry I ranted quite a bit there. Yes great looking game, fun for a while but the appeal has worn off and its now just boring.

Wow, no one said you had to, sheesh... I had to upgrade my computer, but I didn't do it JUST for EQ, my computer needed some attention anyways.. maybe you don't feel the same way, but still... you seem pretty arrogant... that's just my opinion.

Ok, you run on pretty much what i ahve in boxes next to me except im using an ATI 9600XT 256mb, will that run it on high with a good frame rate, also my processor is an AMD 2800+ so it will probably run better than your intel (no offense). How fast do you think it will run on high?

  • NihilanthNihilanth Member Posts: 1,357

you could run it on high settings, but i cant guarentee you would get good frame rates everywhere. also, my best friend has the same processor as you and he actually gets worse fps than me. AMD are generally better for gaming than intel but u have the 2800 which is the equivalent of a 2.8Ghz.

oh, but if by high you meant what i had in those screenshots....then no, not even if you had an nVidia 6800Ultra with 2 gigs of ram and an AMD64 FX chip could you run it with good fps.

Don't worry about Hodge. He's mad because he has 256mb of ram and refusues to upgrade to 512mb. I tried to tell him it was worth the upgrade even if he wasn't going to play eq2 (which he wanted to play before he heard he couldn't) but he'd have none of it. Take hie posts with a grain of salt.

    ::::36::::::36::::::36::::::36::::::36:: 256mb? ::::07::::::07::::::07::::::07::::::07::

Does he play any games? What does he use his computer for? Accounting? Word processing? Minesweeper?::::29::

EDIT: Interesting screenshots btw. The emptiness and blandness really shines through on maximum settings. If computer graphics develop over the next five years in the same way they have over the last five, then I truly fear for the future of SOE's insanely designed "present-proof" game.

I know I tried to tell him that 256mb just wasn't going to cut it with ANY newer games. But his response was "that's too much ram."

Can't blame ya there, I would not upgrade just to play one game either. But add in HL2, Far Cry, and all the other games that came out last year and will be coming out in the next and upgrades are not only desirable but a necessity.
