Dear Sweetsci,
It is with much sadness that today we announce our intention to close the European and North American ArchLord game servers operated by Codemasters Online.
Our licence for ArchLord is due to expire shortly and unfortunately, after several weeks of negotiations with NHN, the Korean developers of the title, we have not been able to reach an agreement to renew the contract, therefore the service will be transitioning across to Webzen.
This means that Codemasters will no longer have the right to operate the service in the Western territories it currently provides service in and therefore we are obliged to shut down all associated game services before the licence expires.
The last full day of service will be 1st October, 2009. All ArchLord world servers will shut down on the morning of Friday 2nd October, UK time. Further details of how the transition of the service will be handled, will be provided closer to the time of the transition.
The purchase of credits is now no longer available to ensure all players have the opportunity to spend their remaining Chantra credits in game and use their remaining Chantra items. Likewise, the creation of new ArchLord game accounts/subscriptions is now disabled. For further information, please see our ArchLord Service Transition FAQ in the forums..
ArchLord was Codemasters Online's first free to play MMO service and we have been very proud of its development and success during its three years of existence. Over that time the service has gone from strength to strength and has one of the most passionate communities we've ever seen.
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported ArchLord and those players that not only played it, but also raised an army and ruled the world in Chantra.
Thanks,
The Codemasters Online Team.

about time this game sucked
I am astonished it lasted this long, I remember trying it shortly after release and thinking "You've got to be kidding me." Really the game was about as bad as it gets.
i only logged on once :-p
about 2 years ago right?
Oh, it was still running? Who knew?

I only ever imagined how bad it was and that was enough to bring me to tears.
I got the email but I can't remember ever playing the game, or even signing on for it. Must have been great.
Was about to post the same thing.
I don't actually think it was bad. The premise was sound and in some ways I felt it could have been a spiritual successor to Lineage 2. However, it had a few too many issues. Heck, I beta tested and played it at release when it was pay to play.
However, the world was very linear, and I don't think there was enough to it to keep players grinding and grinding. The game felt like a junky asian free to play in a lot of ways so I suppose it made sense to make it free to play.
It just lacked depth.

This game was atrocious. Still it's sad when a MMO dies.
Fortunately (for those that like/liked it) or unfortunately (for those that dislike it) the game is not dead. It simply switched western publishers from Codemasters to Webzen. Apparently codemasters is giving a special key that will allow you to access your character on the new Webzen servers. It will be interesting to see how that part of the switch will play out or if it even works. But alas, the game is not dead...yet.
Edit: It even says that in the second paragraph of the email that was sent to the OP:

What's really funny is that Codemasters is telling everyone to blow all their in-game money before the switch lol.
Even if you get to keep your character, they'll be broke! and the economy will be tanked. Way to ensure a smooth transition there...

Let me just say I'm one of the dorks with a boxed copy of this...
Im happy for their failure. They deserved it.
I tried this game once and quit it in less than 10 minutes. Pure shit.
Now its dead.
lol, I think I still have my boxed copy some place.

You get an F for reading comprehension. They are telling you to spend the codemaster coin because you can bet webzen won't recognize it. Seems quite logical when you read it. Guess that was not something you wanted to do.
Yeah, I played this game, it was as bad as the posters say in this thread. Webzen is becoming a collector of all the trashy MMO's, sounds like a good idea to avoid any game they support.
Codemasters is 0/2 now. They just can't keep an MMO for longer then two years. They really need to stop trying to publish asian MMOs for Europe and get back with things. They have really been going downhill.
Make games you want to play.

What part of service transfered to webzen did you not understand?
The game isn't dead, it's simply moving to another publisher, just like RF Online did.
When was it ever alive=)
You get an F for assuming everyone reading the article knows the difference between the names of Codemaster's Currency and Archlord's currency. If everyone here at mmorpg had subscribed and played Archlord maybe it wouldn't be failing. I mean for heaven's sake, you can see all the games that I've played in my signature! Seems quite logical when you read it. Guess that was not something you wanted to do.
No one else in the entire thread posted on this conflict... So where do you suppose I got my source from? Gee, you suppose it could have been from Reading the article you said I didn't read?

Maybe the game would have been good if it wasent Click2Move! I used to play WoW and leave Archlord running with a bot
Codemasters is responsible for LOTRO in the EU so that would make them 1/3.
Still not a great record though, lol.

Their memory is surely short... they don't count RF Online as F2P considering Archlord their "First F2P MMO", and they did still have RF when it switched from P2P to F2P. Archlord also had a P2P -> F2P transition, and it was damn fast.
Anyway I guess they learned their lesson with importing F2P asian games.
I actually spent a couple months in Archlord afther it went FTP. It was a fun game but the PVP sucked so I quit. Also I dont even think that USA can play the version on Webzen.
You can. Webzen = new US/EU host.
USA wont be able to play till Oct 3. I tried to play a couple of weeks back and I could not. I guess they are waiting for Code Masters Archlord to shut down first.
