act dumb as much as you want you know what i ment and that is rpg = role playing game true but also means a game that takes you a certain amount of time to cap not 1-20 in a day or 2 and then play the game like a fps in pvp

Is this guy a troll or for real?

If I look up the definition of RPG does it say anything about time required to level? Of course not, the term RPG has nothing to do with the time/level ratio. Get real man.

I'd really like to hear what your definition of MMORPG is, because I've never heard it defined based on a "minimum time to level cap."

Since when is 'hype' defined as MMO geeks talking about 1 single trailer?  That's not hype, that's par for the course with this genre.  When I see quotes from Arenanet saying they will ass-rape all other MMOs, and it's plastered all over every gaming medium, on magazines, and on tv commercials...that's hype.

Or if I saw...say...GW2 crap on the side of a Mountain Dew can...

That's pretty much the gist of your argument? Correct? So, let's forget the fact that there's not going to be a level cap in GW2, let's throw that out there because that would destroy one of your infalliable arguments. Let's also throw out that 'its not an MMO' argument since it's only based on the pint sized thought process you have.

Ehh, you're not left with much. Not that I should expect anything more from a person with an anime avatar.

I am going to make an attempt not to flame you being that you are catching it from everyone else on this thread. But you are stating opinion, and representing it as fact. It might be easier for you, and the rest of us if you would simply state that you do not like this game and that yes you believe it iz over hyped then leave it at that. Just a suggestion thou, I am not the boss over you.

Why do we even argue with Albos , he list his TOP 3 MMORPG as

    1. Runes of Magic

    2. Requiem: Bloodymare

    3. Perfect World International

with quotes like:"RoM is best f2p in my opinion."

    Seriously? What are you 12yrsold?

and you are right Guild Wars is not an MMORPG , Arena Net list it as a Cooperative.Online.Role.Playing.Game.

But yeah I guess you know better that GW's own developers . GW is not a MMO /sarcasm

GW suffered so much from misinformation . what are you guys trying to do? kill GW2 before it even launch?

If I may ask, what are *you* trying to do, good sir?

I don't know about you, but I like my RoM/PWI/WoW players where they currently are, in their favorite games.

What they're complaining about may be misinformation to actual GW fans, but in their own minds it's all perfectly legit and valid. And we're better for it. Do you actually WANT these types of people in Guild Wars?

I mean sure, they'll pick up the game, give ANet it's $50 and quit after a month or less, but still, Pre-Searing is currently a cesspit of scum and immaturity precisely because this is where all those people start out. If GW2 is as user-friendly as they're promising, they may actually make it out of the noob areas. The horror!

I threw up in my mouth a little.

We don't know much about GW2, but if we are going on the execution of GW, it will have interesting and new ideas and near flawless execution, I tend to think it will be amazing. It is rare to see this much hate towards a game this early. We really don't know much about what it will be like. GW made some mistakes with their instancing, not realizing how crucial that was for most people to feel connected to a game world. They learned that lesson and I think the changes they make will reflect that. That is one of the key reasons they chose to make a new game instead of more campaigns for the original. You won't see clever ideas like Anet's in your typical MMOs ala WoW/Aion/(pick one).

I think a lot of these people are scared by something new and different, which is odd when you hear how much they complain about games being the same.

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

Wait until the game is actually released. Then wait for the fireworks as players from every MMO clash in a battle royale to prove that their MMO is the best. While in the meanwhile, the rest of us will be enjoying our new game :D

Wow you could be more of a troll.. Guild Wars has one of the best stories of an MMO and combat ect all of which make an RPG. It can be considered an MMORPG... even if it's not it has more in common with an MMORPG than just an online co-op game. With guilds ect you can stay in touch with all the members even when they are in an instanced area.

Also, telling all the Guild Wars fans to STFU on a Guild Wars forum.. not very bright on your part. That's all.

    No

The hype of GW2 is that it is the closest thing to a polished F2P MMORPG do to ANET's Box sells for fether development.

GW1 still sucked if you try to call it a MMORPG.

The emphasis in role playing games is on increasing the abilities of the characters (stats such as strength, magical power, sword skill and the like) and collecting items (better armor, healing potions, etc) that allow the completion of the quest. Most role playing games are set in fairly open environments that allow the payer to choose from many possible paths, and often include side quests not necessary to the competion of the main goal.

^---- This is what a RPG video game is all about. GW1 lacks in the form of Character Development, which is the building blocks of a RPG game

Please, I beg of you, find me the official definition of an RPG that states that an RPG has to involve the raising of one's abilities and collection of items. We'd all love to see it before you continue to blabber on.

Regardless, I, for one, speak the official English language. In my language, this is what RPG means:

Roleplaying-game:-  A role-playing game (RPG; often roleplaying game) is a game in which the participants assume the roles of fictional characters. One would assume that is rather obvious, but I guess some need a little hand-holding in the definition department. Do you assume the role of a character in Guild Wars? Well unless you're an absolute idiot who doesn't get past the log-in screen then yes, you do.

You've reached the point where instead of people taking your posts seriously or even being aggravated by them, they're laughing at you instead.

Look Up  ROLE PLAYING VIDEO GAME

Not Table Top, and live Role Play.

You can even check out Video Game Mags like Gameinformer and how they define RPG.

Please direct me to a RPG video game other then GW that doesnt support character development.

     OK

Roleplaying video-game:- Generally, the player controls a small number of game characters, usually called a party, and achieves victory by completing a series of quests. Players explore a game world, while solving puzzles and engaging in tactical combat. A key feature of the genre is that characters grow in power and abilities, and characters are typically designed by the player. RPGs rarely challenge a player's physical coordination, with the exception of action role-playing games.[1]

These games usually have a highly developed story and setting, which is divided into a number of quests. Players control one or several characters by issuing commands, which is performed by the character at an effectiveness determined by that character's numeric attributes. These attributes increase each time a character gains a level, and a character's level goes up each time the player accumulates a certain amount of experience. Although, in some recent games, the character can "level up" more specific stats by merely performing actions that relate to them.

I highlighted everything that applies to Guild Wars in case you lacked the mental capacity to engage in such strenuous reading comprehension.

We're still waiting for that definition I requested from you oh Oracle of All Things RPG.

Are you an idiot? RPG = Grinding now? The fact that you could get from 1-20 in a day was one of GW's shining parts. Grinding is pointless and a boring waste of time. Guild Wars eliminated the grind, and let people spend most of their time actually playing the game. If you ever even played Guild Wars, you would know the levels meant nearly nothing after Factions came out. Progression came in the form of collecting skills and rare items.

The reason why Guild Wars was able to eliminate the grind was because they had no monthly fee riding on the player being forced to play as long as possible. That is why you grind in other MMOs, it isn't because "thats an RPG!", it's to make you pay for as long as possible.

Listen ignorant gamer!!!! rpg is not even an mmo is a 40hours +++ game you cant finish a rpg in 1 day, why not ask for a game that you allready have level cap no need for the day either? All I enjoy in a game is the progress I do, I tried wow in pirate server and thats why I dont play wow anymore the instant cap level killed the game for me... Now do you understand me or you still act dumb?
