As I can remember Syrnia is the closest thing you can get, its a text and browser based game.
If you are really into crafting you can always try Wurm Online but its a really hard game with a long learning curve and kinda slow paced however it can be really fun.
Also Nowhere else and beyond is something worth to try .
Mabinogi is very similiar to RuneScape's crafting when it comes to obtaining materials from sources and lighting firres to cook on before eating stuff etc. The greater t hing about it is its free, however, it is anime styled so might not be to your liking, worth checking out though.

Ive tried out Mabinogi and I like every thing about it except the graphics. I just couldn't hadnle them. Im checking out Wurm online right now .
edit. Wurm is working so im going to give ryzom a go!

i can hardly remember the runescape crafting system so i will just list the best crafting games i know

-Changeable worlds
