Wow is a very, very solid game. So far i've quit "forever" 6 times now over the last 5 years, only to come back time after time. Blizzard *is* doing things right in a lot of ways.
EQ2 was closest to keeping me away from WoW.... But somehow even that didn't manage to stop me from resubbing. I never unsubbed from EVE though (which i've been subbed to ever since retail), but i've only been switching skills on that game lately.
There's no shame in going back to WoW. For all it's faults, it's *still* by far the most polished MMO right now (except maybe EVE.... But it's a vastly different playstyle, so i'm disregarding that :P )
I tryed eve also and it is a great game but your correct I like games in the fantasy realm with more story and classic leveling when my first ship got wrecked that was enough of eve for me, plus I do not know anyone who plays it to play with so it makes it harder to get into. patching is done on wow now just trying to decide if I should suscribe or not lol
@OP Id say wait for the new xpac (and no you dont have to buy the xpac to see the changes to the world), wow 1-60 is all change, im sure I dont have to go into it.
There will be loads of players, returning, rerollers and new that will be starting from scratch with either the 2 new races or the new race/class combos.
So if when you played Wow it felt a little empty due to the majory of your servers players at endgame then 1-60 will be like November 2004 (the first month wow launched), pact full of players, mass world PvP like the old days (I hope).
Ask yourself this, do you want to play World of Warcraft right now?
If the answer is yes, then play. It is that simple.
You may be falling victim to reading these boards too much. There is a lot of anti-WoW hate on these boards that almost make you feel ashamed for playing.
Not one company out there knows more about what they are doing than Blizzard. Everything they touch and make, has a stamp of quality on it. In these days of EA and other developers like Funcom, go with a developer you can trust.
I dont know about you guys but Blizzard deserves my $15 a month.
I am in the process of reinstalling World of Warcraft after trying many other mmo's Including Eve, Everquest, Vanguard, LOTRO, and going back to guild wars. Anything that anyone would like to suggest before I going back! Thanks in advance!!
My honest advice?
You need a few good First-Person shooters to offset your grindtime. Stretch out your twitch reflexes and help stimulate your bordom that way. It's like anything else a person consumes, helps to switch it up a bit to keep the good stuff interesting.

Good luck with your not going back to WoW. (not sarcastic by any means)
Maybe this helps you:
5 minutes after you logged in for the first time again, you will probably feel like 5 minutes before you logged out the last time:
bored to death.
