It's better to give a poor country some money first than to give ourselves and help us out. In our country their is not much of poor but in others, poor is all around. We can be selfish and just use money for ourselves and for our own people when theirs other countries were people are rock bottom less foruturnate that us in the US.
A few things. 1 Stableboy, would you like all of us, uncluding yourself, to give up our way of life and live in shacks and have nothign to eat like the misfortunates living in the third world? The only way that these people are ever going to get any help is if we fix the mistakes that we, yes we, America and Europe, have created in the past. But, the only way for us to be able to do this is to fix the problems here first. The world economy today is only "stable" and running because it is being held up by the debts that countries owe eachother. The economic powers of the world, naimly the US, the Asian powers, and Europe need to recalibrate the world economy and untie the knot that has become modern economics. After we fix this then we will be more suited to help the third world.

If you want to gripe about why we lose jobs to nations like Mexico and China then you can thank the liberal fools in our nation who fight to empower labor unions and laws that force the companies in our nation to produce goods at a cost that cannot compete with overseas labor - even after transport and tariffs.
Luckily this country is waking up to the fact that America was not created to be a socialist nation (this kind of thinking is why we left Europe and fought to start over here). We are supposed to dance to the beat of a different drum here. This is the land of freedom and great opportunity. It is a place where the fittest survive and the weak don't. If you create a country where you tax the living hell out of the successful in order to lake care of the unable, drug addicted (and this includes drinking), and often times just plain lazy - then you stifle the motivation of those with intelligence and drive that can actually create jobs and help our nation.
Is is sad to see a homeless person? Yes. But no more sad than seeing 100,000 innocent people die by a force of nature out of our control. Many of the reasons these people are perishing is because of nature. If individuals want to help out - I think that is great - but having it forced upon you in the form of taxation is not American at all. Sometimes you have to let the weak go for the better of the nation as a whole.

These people come into our country. They get given a house A Job A Car And a weeks holiday to a place that ur typical english family couldn't afford. to top it off... Alot of these people are renting there houses out at home
We have people on our streets who don't even get a warm place to stay for the night. I myself have been jobless... all i got was £85 every 2 weeks, it was a mission to get it, and they kept cutting it off for random reasons. How do they expect ya to live for like £6 a day? Especially when it costs that to get there... u have to get to inteviews, u have to pay bills etc etc... Hell if they had given me a house and a job and a car then that woulda been sweet. My dad himself has recently been made homeless a few days before xmas, because he hasn't been getting much work, so had to have his van off the road cos no tax so he couldn't get to work.. so he lost his flat. IF he was put in a pluming firm and given a decent van all taxed and insured. But really they need to sort out our homeless and our society first. People need to chill out and get off there high horses. People base too much on fear tactics and propaganer and not enough on fact. People dont go out and learn things for themselves anymore, they just hear everything the way the government wants them to. People stay naive and happy in there warm fuzzy shells, and maybe thats the best way to be, but the world is fucked because its all about the Money and the power.
If we(everyone) just said fuck it, and canceled word debt.. these struggling countrys could finally start making money for themselves and progress with us. They might even find out some new medical feats when they have the technology and the scientist... well i'm going ott but u get the idea.
Infact it would be great if the whole world just started at 0 again.
Lets go the whole way shall we and say we need to bulldoze the world(well the buildings and everything) and rebuild it in a way thats just benificial to all, including itself.

First of all, even though we have some major problems at home, The world basically thinks the U.S. is required to give help. We are the symbol of Freedom and Hope. Do you understand what would happen to us if we didn't give aid? All those people would hate us. What happened last time? September 11. I wish we were back in the old days when the U.S. had a policy of isolation. But were gonna keep giving until its us that needs the giving.
Also, although i think bush is way better than boring kerry, he has dug the U.S. into a big big hole. I personally think we should pull out our troops and bring them back home. I live near Washington D.C. where a major attack is likely. I would feel 10x more secure seeing some soldiers patrolling around the area. Before we help secure the rights of others, we need to secure our safety.
Also for a new topic, is anyone as pissed off as me, that our borders are wide open? Any terrorist could waltz in. Also, half the immigrants (i am not trying to be racist) literally come in, live off welfare wich is way more then they got at their home country, take advantage of free medical, dental etc. It all comes from our taxes. The US needs to take a leaf out of the books of New Zeland and Australia. There it is almost impossible for people to move in from a different country. If the US closed its borders to immagrants, or as said by Falian, halved the number coming in, or something along those lines, that would solve so many problems economically. Its time to wake up ladies and gentelman. The world as we know it is in a very large hole that is caving in, we need to dig ourselves out before its too late. And we do this by taking care of ourselves first, then helping otthers. If the United States collapses, or becomes weaker, who the hell is going to help everyone else? Probably England and thats about it. We need to restructure outselves and better our way of life, because if we are well off, then we can help the rest of the world (which I think they should try a little harder to help themselves and not start religious and ethnic wars every 5 minutes).

Exactly. Take a lesson from history. While this is not a direct comparison, the United States started off as being very anti-social, staying to ourselves, then we eventually started to help out the world when needed (best part), and now we help everyone without them wanting it spreading our troops and resources all over the damn world. Well, lets take a look at the greatest example of a superworld power that did this. Rome. Rome(along with every other empire of the past that was a superpower) spread its resources out too far and political corruption and outside forces collapsed hte country from the outside because they had diffused to the point of no return. Lets pull back and help ourselves before something along this line collapses our country.

Yes this fact would be important if we still relied on cavelry as our main military and transpotation device. Unfortunatly troops can be flown or boted over in a matter of hours from anywhere. Missles are also a little probelm. As well as shadow terrorists, or terrorists who blend into society and attack on a large scale with explosives. We are out of the days of battelfield warfare boys and girls. Today war consists of city fighting where your enemy hides among civilians and attacks with gurella tactics. The oceans on both sides of us do matter for large scale foot soldier invasions, but everythign is going robotic now and long range warfare.

I somewhat agree. I think we should help if a disaster strikes, but I don't think, for example, it is our job to pay millions a year to African countries to help "Aids Awareness". How is that our job? Many countries depend on the US for support and it is ridiculous. Most of these countries populations also hate the US. It's the sitiuation in which "we are damned if we do, damned if we don't". If we didn't, many would hate us even more because we are not helping, and if we do help, they hate us for being in their countires, or our help is not enough. It's unbelivable that the UN said that our initial $35 million was too low. Hell, I don't even think we should have helped at all.
The more people gripe about our aid efforts, the more I start agreeing with the original poster in which we should just pull out and not aid any country again. We would save billions a year and look after our own country for once.

When USA move in Afghanistan, nobody even question that and Canada was the main troops provider in Afghanistan after your Iraqi thingy, the French where there...and despite it proximity, Russia and China STFU over the topic.

I personnally cry when I see the sept 11, which I think was pretty selfish considering I didnt have even 1 tear over the Tsunami. However, NYC even with an awfull disaster is richer then us, sending help in $ or foods would be as much an insult to you as it would be to the poors around us...so we wont be doing that, we will gladly support you in a cause where the economic dont appear to be the main focus and will not even raise 1 question on the legetimity of the action. Was Afghanistan a ''good'' war, well, it was not an economic war from the US and I dont care to consider more, there is no profit there, we boldy and unquestionnably support the US there! Even most fanatics understand we are as equally fanatics and motivated on the topic, they wont bomb Afghanistan, it would only strenghen our resolve. Iraq is another matter completely.
Now, you can say 11 sept and Afghanistan have nothing to do together, well, maybe on some theorical level and on political levels, but in the street, it does link and our politicians didnt go to Iraq because of the street opinion mostly(and/or lack of bribery from Washington over this case).
We put our firefighting copters at the disposal of the western Canada and California when we are done using them(every year during late summer/fall), but would we help them economicly...they are richers then us, it would be a nonsense when we have local issues as well, but using the copters when the fire season is off here, sure. It amaze me the western govs didnt buy more copters to protect western forests, but well...not much we can do over it here.
Of course, as a eastern Canadian, Haiti was a lot more concerning me then asia, because I am selfish, they are beside us, they are poorer then Asia and they speak french...evil evil me, if they would have listen to me, we would have throw all Canada have to help Haiti!

I remeber a quote "We help the world, if they dont want to help us, we shouldnt give a damn about them". I agree, our country should help itself, and we should draw out of countries that dont need our immediate help. right now, the disaster-struck parts of asia should be our only targets for aid. The afghans have thier freedom, let them have thier country. the Iraqis are o longer rled by saddam, they want nothign more then to be left alone and do as they please.
As for rebuilding our country, heres what I think we should do.
1.Lets draw some funds from uneeded areas, and put them into helping our homeless, and developming industry to generate more jobs.
2.Even though im religous, i think most religous groups should stop trying to convert people, one of our rights is right of free worship, lets let them worship what they want.
3.We should at least try and become more self-sufficient, but try to keep trade up, its a way to contribute to global exonomy.
4.Boost funding for education, send out searches to bust up drug rings, and bring back diciplinary actions against unruly teens (The paddle, for instance)
5.draw all militay personnel from all countries minus disaster-struck asia and have them gaurd danger area of america.
6.control immigration, if you have to give them something, just guide them, dont give them all kinds of stuff we americans dont get.
7.last but not least, if black people (not trying to be racist) can talk trash to us, we should be able to sue them as they can sue us.

We cant leave Afghanistan completely. They need some support still, but it will be over soon and they are almost rdy to be left on their own...almost! We cant leave them on their own before the right time, or it would all have been for nothing...and the job is almost completed. They need a police force a little more, they are handling most of everything, they just need a little more support, and by all mean, we need to provide it.
For Iraq, I dont know and dont want to get over the topic hehe.

You think people choose to live on the streets of new york city in teh winter. A large population of the homeless are mentally unstable or retarted people, or war vets who have nothing and have been abandoned. Yes, the leaders, politicians, and buisnesspeople of your country are on purpose outsourcing your jobs to these "animals" because they view YOU as less than an animal. They dispise you. You wanting fair pay, benifits, medical, eye, dental, insurance, a safe workplace, vacation time, etc.... And no matter how much effort we put into it, the situation baerly improves. First, post your sources that say "these people" in SIri Lanka have 11 children avarage. Post your sources that their houses are no bigger than a small bathroom. (A small bathroom is 7 feet tall, with a floorspace of 6 feet x 6 feet.) It is impossible to fit 2 parents, and 11 children into a "small bathroom". The facts please.

Make an effort to go down to your local bookstore and either buy, or browse, or read right there, the tons of books released about why the world is the way it is. Why things happen. On subjects such as the HSA, CIA, FBI, the homosexual known as J. Edgar Hoover who had more power than the President of the USA, Freemasons, Skull and Bones Society, Script and Scroll Society, Thule Society, Freemasons, Khazaar Jews, Hellfire Club, and the two biggies - The New World Illumanatti, and Old World Illumanatti.
3. Whatever your immediate goals are - do them! No matter what it is - learning to play the violin, how to ride a motorcycle, buying a 1968 Ford Mustang, traveling to Hawaii, seeing your mother/father/sibling/friend who you haven't seen in years, opening an Ice Cream shop, making your own MMORPG , etc... etc... etc....
4. Whatever is in your power to do - do it! Passing along all this info to others you know. Helping out an elderly stranger. Taking devoted intrest in your kids. Making sure to put off having kids if you are under 25. Making sure to graduate High School at minimum, And College if you decide on it.
5. Accept all consequences for your actions and life that you live. This makes it easier to change whatever is negative about your life and/or situation.
Messed up things will keep on happening in America, and the rest of the world. Things will get even more messed up in the future. Nothing can be done about it. So it is useless to get worked up over it. Just live life now, go after all your goals and dreams right now.

If you want to gripe about why we lose jobs to nations like Mexico and China then you can thank the liberal fools in our nation who fight to empower labor unions and laws that force the companies in our nation to produce goods at a cost that cannot compete with overseas labor - even after transport and tariffs.
Luckily this country is waking up to the fact that America was not created to be a socialist nation (this kind of thinking is why we left Europe and fought to start over here). We are supposed to dance to the beat of a different drum here. This is the land of freedom and great opportunity. It is a place where the fittest survive and the weak don't. If you create a country where you tax the living hell out of the successful in order to lake care of the unable, drug addicted (and this includes drinking), and often times just plain lazy - then you stifle the motivation of those with intelligence and drive that can actually create jobs and help our nation.
Is is sad to see a homeless person? Yes. But no more sad than seeing 100,000 innocent people die by a force of nature out of our control. Many of the reasons these people are perishing is because of nature. If individuals want to help out - I think that is great - but having it forced upon you in the form of taxation is not American at all. Sometimes you have to let the weak go for the better of the nation as a whole.

yup i know the feeling... and another problem.. especially here in england... all the assylum seekers that we take in that no one else in the world seems to.
My problem with it is this:
These people come into our country.
They get given a house
A Job
A Car
And a weeks holiday to a place that ur typical english family couldn't afford.
to top it off... Alot of these people are renting there houses out at home
We have people on our streets who don't even get a warm place to stay for the night. I myself have been jobless... all i got was £85 every 2 weeks, it was a mission to get it, and they kept cutting it off for random reasons. How do they expect ya to live for like £6 a day? Especially when it costs that to get there... u have to get to inteviews, u have to pay bills etc etc... Hell if they had given me a house and a job and a car then that woulda been sweet.
My dad himself has recently been made homeless a few days before xmas, because he hasn't been getting much work, so had to have his van off the road cos no tax so he couldn't get to work.. so he lost his flat. IF he was put in a pluming firm and given a decent van all taxed and insured. But really they need to sort out our homeless and our society first. People need to chill out and get off there high horses. People base too much on fear tactics and propaganer and not enough on fact. People dont go out and learn things for themselves anymore, they just hear everything the way the government wants them to. People stay naive and happy in there warm fuzzy shells, and maybe thats the best way to be, but the world is fucked because its all about the Money and the power.
If we(everyone) just said fuck it, and canceled word debt.. these struggling countrys could finally start making money for themselves and progress with us. They might even find out some new medical feats when they have the technology and the scientist... well i'm going ott but u get the idea.
Infact it would be great if the whole world just started at 0 again.
Lets go the whole way shall we and say we need to bulldoze the world(well the buildings and everything) and rebuild it in a way thats just benificial to all, including itself.
We also need to get our governments to work on these renewable powersources they wont let us have because of there deals from the oil companys hehe. Okay i am wandering a bit off now i think i'll leave it at that before it gets even more stupid

Ok, heres my opinion on all this.
First of all, even though we have some major problems at home, The world basically thinks the U.S. is required to give help. We are the symbol of Freedom and Hope. Do you understand what would happen to us if we didn't give aid? All those people would hate us. What happened last time? September 11. I wish we were back in the old days when the U.S. had a policy of isolation. But were gonna keep giving until its us that needs the giving.
Also, although i think bush is way better than boring kerry, he has dug the U.S. into a big big hole. I personally think we should pull out our troops and bring them back home. I live near Washington D.C. where a major attack is likely. I would feel 10x more secure seeing some soldiers patrolling around the area. Before we help secure the rights of others, we need to secure our safety.
Also for a new topic, is anyone as pissed off as me, that our borders are wide open? Any terrorist could waltz in. Also, half the immigrants (i am not trying to be racist) literally come in, live off welfare wich is way more then they got at their home country, take advantage of free medical, dental etc. It all comes from our taxes. So people basically our living here w/o contributing for free, and they aren't even citizens. That really ticks me off

Theres a saying i think ( i might be making this up) That now matter how hard you try to help, someone always takes it the wrong way or gets pissed off.

1. Afghanistan- we meant to get terrorists, we end up turning it into democracy.
2. We meant to oust Sadaam Hussein- now hatred of U.S. in middle east doubled.
Seriously people we really need to stay out of other peoples buisness. If a country attacks us directly, i say we take them out. But we really need to keep to our own buisness. Another example, US GETTING INTO OTHER COUNTRIES POLITICS. We are so worried about everybody in the world getting the freedom they deserve, That we are having to heighten our security, and lose some of our freedom. Lets go back to the good old days, when a country called for our support we came, if we were attacked, we attacked back stronger. BUT WE NEVER GOT INTO OTHER PEOPLES BUISNESS FOR NO FRIGGIN REASON. We are seriously getting on other peoples nerves.
The whole world thinks we are all a bunch of stubborn, cocky, capitist, freaks. We need to pull out of Iraq, protect our borders, and mind our own buisness.

I somewhat agree. I think we should help if a disaster strikes, but I don't think, for example, it is our job to pay millions a year to African countries to help "Aids Awareness". How is that our job? Many countries depend on the US for support and it is ridiculous. Most of these countries populations also hate the US. It's the sitiuation in which "we are damned if we do, damned if we don't". If we didn't, many would hate us even more because we are not helping, and if we do help, they hate us for being in their countires, or our help is not enough. It's unbelivable that the UN said that our initial $35 million was too low. Hell, I don't even think we should have helped at all.
The more people gripe about our aid efforts, the more I start agreeing with the original poster in which we should just pull out and not aid any country again. We would save billions a year and look after our own country for once.

However, NYC even with an awfull disaster is richer then us, sending help in $ or foods would be as much an insult to you as it would be to the poors around us...so we wont be doing that, we will gladly support you in a cause where the economic dont appear to be the main focus and will not even raise 1 question on the legetimity of the action. Was Afghanistan a ''good'' war, well, it was not an economic war from the US and I dont care to consider more, there is no profit there, we boldy and unquestionnably support the US there! Even most fanatics understand we are as equally fanatics and motivated on the topic, they wont bomb Afghanistan, it would only strenghen our resolve. Iraq is another matter completely.
Now, you can say 11 sept and Afghanistan have nothing to do together, well, maybe on some theorical level and on political levels, but in the street, it does link and our politicians didnt go to Iraq because of the street opinion mostly(and/or lack of bribery from Washington over this case).
We put our firefighting copters at the disposal of the western Canada and California when we are done using them(every year during late summer/fall), but would we help them economicly...they are richers then us, it would be a nonsense when we have local issues as well, but using the copters when the fire season is off here, sure. It amaze me the western govs didnt buy more copters to protect western forests, but well...not much we can do over it here.
Of course, as a eastern Canadian, Haiti was a lot more concerning me then asia, because I am selfish, they are beside us, they are poorer then Asia and they speak french...evil evil me, if they would have listen to me, we would have throw all Canada have to help Haiti!

I remeber a quote "We help the world, if they dont want to help us, we shouldnt give a damn about them". I agree, our country should help itself, and we should draw out of countries that dont need our immediate help. right now, the disaster-struck parts of asia should be our only targets for aid. The afghans have thier freedom, let them have thier country. the Iraqis are o longer rled by saddam, they want nothign more then to be left alone and do as they please.
As for rebuilding our country, heres what I think we should do.
1.Lets draw some funds from uneeded areas, and put them into helping our homeless, and developming industry to generate more jobs.
2.Even though im religous, i think most religous groups should stop trying to convert people, one of our rights is right of free worship, lets let them worship what they want.
3.We should at least try and become more self-sufficient, but try to keep trade up, its a way to contribute to global exonomy.
4.Boost funding for education, send out searches to bust up drug rings, and bring back diciplinary actions against unruly teens (The paddle, for instance)
5.draw all militay personnel from all countries minus disaster-struck asia and have them gaurd danger area of america.
6.control immigration, if you have to give them something, just guide them, dont give them all kinds of stuff we americans dont get.
7.last but not least, if black people (not trying to be racist) can talk trash to us, we should be able to sue them as they can sue us.

We cant leave Afghanistan completely. They need some support still, but it will be over soon and they are almost rdy to be left on their own...almost! We cant leave them on their own before the right time, or it would all have been for nothing...and the job is almost completed. They need a police force a little more, they are handling most of everything, they just need a little more support, and by all mean, we need to provide it.
