A few questions about CO

1. I've heard that this game is actually quite capable of being played solo. I personally hate solo-play, and I'm wondering if it is still easy to find groups to quest/grind with.

2. I see from screenshots that there is a shading to make the game feel more... comic book-like. Is there a way to turn this feature off?

3. In one screenshot I saw an almost shark-man superhero. Am I capable of making animal-like heros?

4. Are there pets/summon skills?

5. Do people enjoy PvPing in this game? I am a big fan of PvP, but have never played a game where PvP gives you experience or serves as anything besides fun.

Thanks in advance!

    1. They just increased the difficulty. Grouping is made better by the 'run for help' mechanic that enemy groups will do once your group get to at least three players. Its almost like it scales the difficulty based on group size. I've been having a blast in a 3-4 player group.

    2. You can turn off the comic book outlining. Its much better with it off. The graphics are still very stylized though.

    3. There are a TON of manimals. Sharks, insects, birds, wolves, frogs, and probably a few I am forgetting.

    4. Yes many many of them. Zombies, wolves, angels, demons, robots, heal drones, golems, etc.

    5. Some like it, others hate it. If you're one of the types who gets crazy about balance or being pwned by someone who is using a theme you're weak against, then you'll hate it. If you're a bit more lighthearted and can laugh it off when crazy stuff happens then you may enjoy it. PvP gives experience and there are some nice rewards, but there are only a few scenarios to play at the moment so you may get bored with it before progressing very far.

    4. There seem to be a ton of skills at start to choose from (from what I've heard). Which ones do I pick for summons?

    5. I think I'll like it. I'm a pretty casual gamer.

Other than the Gadgeteer pets I've not seen many pets used yet.  With the way you can mix and match skills you could make yourself like just a serious pet summoner using various abilities from across different power sets.

Gadgeteer has summons for heal drones, robots and turrets. Fire has a Fire Snake ability its further down the line I've not seen anyone pick it yet though I am curious.   Supernatural has wolves they can summon and flies (the flies are basically a toxic damage dot i think).  Sorcery has demons, wolves, spirits, familiars, and mystical constructs.

You dont have to stick to one power set you can pick and choose from the power sets over time.  I'm not quite sure who else gets pets of a different sort in the game I've been toying with the various martial arts, power suit and elemental power sets.

Most of the pets are in the Sorcery sets. There was a major bug with the Sorcery sets that they fixed yesterday, so that may be why many have not seem a lot of pets yet. They are also higher tier powers so you won't see them much at all in the first few areas.

Yeah, it just sucked (and maybe they changed it aganazer, you tell me)  that you can only summon 1 major sorcery pet (apart from the zombies) at a time.  AND you are confined to that tiny circle..  apart from that and your gadgeteering pets (and if you really wanted to, tp has a few AOE "pets" that you can summon like ego storm..   you CAN build quite the summoner.  Just wish the pet AI was better. (maybe they changed it since CB?)

I haven't tried to take more than one pet yet, but every 'stay in the circle or else' pet that I have seen have an advantage that turns them into permanent controlled pets. Some of the pets make sense that they would be temporary like the Ego Storm and that lightning pet, so I am fine with that.

Last I checked they still have the same collision issues where they stand on top of each other a lot and end up inside the player. I have been putting off a serious pet character until they get that worked out. It seems like an obvious enough improvement that it must be on their short list of feature they'd like to add.

MW, you'd probably have liked yesterday's patch. They got the difficulty just about right for those of us that know how to build decent enough characters. Between the difficulty and the introduction of 5 'working' sorcery sets for support, it actually feels like a good group game for the first time ever.

They also added a 'preview' of the MT shop. It was 100% fluff action figures. We are just as much in the dark about their intentions today as we were months ago.

Yeah, I'm giving myself some cooldown time before I put my cape back on..  when I come back I want to see some fresh new content...   When they get something new on the way you let me know and I'll pop in for some hero time.

    1. As the beta progressed, soloing ebbed away.  After the launch day nerfs, it sounds like some power combinations can barely survive, let alone solo.  I'm sure there are still a few min/max power combos which allow soloing.  Grouping was pretty easy, but not fun much of the time, as various players can't share some content because they don't have the requirements to do quests.

    2. I like the outlines, because the game is inherently cheesy, so the look goes along with it.  The dialogue is relentlessly silly and nowhere does the game take itself seriously.  I didn't care for the look without the outlines at all.

    3. This is the single aspect of the game which is better than CoH.  The bestial stances, the swishing tails, the sheer variety of "manimals" was very cool.  Unfortunately the rest of the game is nowhere near as cool.

    4. Pets are there.  Not very impressive any longer.  They were admittedly overpowered in the early beta, but I feel they've gone too far in the opposite direction with them.  This was pre-launch, of course, so I don't know what they're like in the live game.

    5. The game is massively unbalanced, as you might imagine with so many power combinations.  That makes PvP about as unfun as possible, because you will run up against people who can one-shot you all day long and you'll never be able to scratch them.  Until the next round of nerfs, of course, which will just shift the uber-PvP build to a new FotM.

I was on both sides of the equation.  Getting stomped repeatedly just made me ragequit, but having the "I win" button with the overpowered pets was boring after a very short time.
