Mage/Priests need not apply

As far as questing, for a f2p game imho this is one of the best. It's solo friendly and can be enjoyed by peeps who do real life. However, there have been serious disconnect issues for several weeks , along with significant lag spikes. Frogster admits this is due an enormous memory leak. But because there is a push to come out with the new race, 2 new classes and a new gaming area coinciding  with Aion's release date, the fix has been slow. The gaming community isn't one of the best, at least not on Govinda Server but hey there are 4 other servers to choose from. As with other mmos, whether free or pay, the more aggressive a player u are, the more elitist your guild is and the more real money you are willing to spend- will determine the quality of your gear/weapons and game play.  My two major complaints:  at lvl 52/50, I know just about every other 52/50 on the server. There doesn't seem to be that influx of new players. I am used to gaming for years and not knowing anyone on the server  except my guildies and the few on my friends list.  Secondly there is a enormous shortage of tanks(which have a slow leveling curve). Mage/Healer  class combination outnumber every other class 10/1.   Not knowing this when I started, my main toon is a Mage/priest and I have never felt so frustrated, or needy. If your not the top of your healer class, you won't get a tank and you need a tank to do instances for the gear/weapons/blah blah. To demonstrate how bad this is the last guild I was in had 50 members and only 3 were tanks.

So, I left and am now looking for a new game. If you decide to try this game, build a tank type on Govinda, and you will feel the love =).

Isn't the problem that tanks level slowly and have to shell out quite a bit to be even remotely decent? Mage/Priests apparently get a lot of goodies through regular drops, while tanks have to buy most of their stuff.

So unless the mage/priest combos feel like helping to twink a budding tank, most  tanks will probably give up and roll a mage/priest too just to enjoy leveling without being robbed.

I'm just guessing of course, based on what I've read so far.

Not the case at all. In 30 or so clops runs I have done- only two cloth items dropped the rest were chain/plate. MA stat run drops favor the tank types also. Squishys need more help getting twinked then tank types. /Shrug  have moved on.

  • I love playing tanks in MMORPG's.  I like being in high demand and getting a reputation for playing a tank well.  However, I have semi-retired my 40 K/P in RoM until Runewaker does something about the repair costs for plate.  I realize the tanks are the ones standing up there taking all the damage, but it's not fair that (assuming your group doesn't wipe repeatedly) the tank is the only one walking away with enormous repair costs.  M/P's get to stand in the back, out of damage range, and cast spells which has almost zero impact on their staff durability loss, while tanks eat all the damage and wind up with a near broken weapon as "thanks" for tanking.  We don't get to enjoy the same benefit of golden repair hammers as other classes because one run through a tough instance and it's gone on everything but accessories.  Whereas other classes can hammer-and-forget for weeks at a time.

All they need to do is slow down the durability loss on plate (which makes logical sense anyway... tougher material, harder to damage).

This is interesting to hear, because on Artemis, it was the exact opposite- tons (no pun intended) of tanks, and no healers.  I even had to give up being dps to become the only healer in my guild.  And recruiting healers was next to impossible.  That guild is long dead now (THANKS FAILSTER!), so

    5x Priest / 3x Mage LFG!

the problem is not leveling, tanks are just too expensive for gear because they can not afford to slack on their gear because peeps expect them to stack stats, gear and stats which are harder to find than for other classes and since they take pretty much ALL the beating a high durability will only get you that far so cash shop hammers are consumed by the bucket and at the end of the trip a heavy repair bill awaits them where some mages and priests do not get a single hit and therefore do not even get such a bill.

tanks also have low(er) damage, therefore you will not see them harvest daily items to sell in mass like many mage priest do and they can not randomly change their class because they require 2 sets of gear where a mage priest can play both roles perfectly fine with one set.

in some way it is also ungrateful to play a tank because most will not hesitate to use an additional damager to speed things up instead of a tank whenever they can but guess what everyone is looking for when things get too damaging? yup a tank.

there is just an incredible imbalance in this game setup which is causing all these differences and the disproportion between characters and this also reflects in real cash spending. so if you have to pay a multitude of what anybody else has to pay to do the same thing or spend a multitude of hours to do the same thing what character are you going to choose? the reasonable answer is: the overpowered classes an mage priest is only one of them.

I stopped playing my Knight when ALL other classes started rolling "need" on stamina mods. Granted, it was poor design that dictated ALL classes need stamina mods as either their primary or secondary stat. Unfortunately, that's all I wanted as an agro-magnet.

Mages fight Priests over Int mods.

Priests fight Mages over Wis mods.

Warriors fight Rogues over Str mods.

Rogues fight Scouts over Dex mods.

Knights, Mages, Priests, Warriors, Rogues, and Scouts ALL fight over Sta mods.

Instead of getting half the role dependent mods that drop, Knights get 1/6th of their needed mods. I got sick of watching it happen, so I rolled another class, then I watched as other Knights did the same thing.
