Must say after beta and headstart, Ive have come to the personal opinion that this game is lame. Its not what I wanted believe me I gave it every chance, Ive invested over $120 dollars into the game..Its not all instances great..but now..you spawn camp to try and complete missions. Its complete freedom to choose balanced characters..great..except now the best part of mmorpg is lost...grouping up. Defined roles..tank ,healer..damage..you know your role and feel a sence of accomplishment when you filled that role to the betterment of the team. Very few groups run in CO. which is good I suppose since there is a maximum of 100 people in your zone..is that "massive online"? This is not a problem easily corrected as if you did have more people the problem with spawn camping missions would be even worse.Very little strategy to combat.......really spam one button with another toggled on. There are exceptions but not many
but this is just my opinon just the way I feal..and as I said I am very disapointed.

I share your view on grouping and roles. Even when I teamed up in CO I never felt like doing real teamwork. I mean, its cool you can chose all powers you want, but the downside is, you never know what role people have, what their weakness and strength is. I mean, yes a well trained team of people knowing each other can do it. But for the playstyle of most thats impossible.
I know for many getting rid of the confinements of classes is a dream, but I fear it just will never work, unless you really prefer soloing, which I don't. I always enjoyed to fill a role in a team, as you say. Be it tank or healer or dmg or whatever. I guess it is better to make classes which much specializations than this.
Also I agree, the lack of servers wasnt to my liking. I preferred to become part of a server community instead of being tossed always into anonymous shard No XYZ.
I felt pretty much the same. Tho I guess we will get flamed for not seeing the greatness. As usual.
Both perfectly reasonable opinions of the game. Personally I disagree and am enjoying the game immensely, but I realize not everyone can love everything.
I also don't think the shard thing was a good idea, but I'm willing to stick it out and see how it goes.
With that said, sorry to see you go. Hopefully you'll find a game that you enjoy more soon.

while i agree with some of what you say i must also disagree with alot of it first i must ask how and why you spent 120 on it and i must disagree on the spawn camping i dont know where you were playing but i never had any trouble finding the enemies i needed to kill. Also the complete customization is more for advanced players or themed heroes you know sure theres no normal classes but you played in beta and headstart meaning you should know their are already builds out there i played in in beta for a longtime and i and 4 other people defeated kigatilik with no help and we had a tank and a healer and i must sat the amounts of punishment the tank could take were awesome it took a while as when kigatilik killed one of us he gained health so it was tough but like i said we did it.
and im sorry but i must put to light your stupidity about combat the only way you can spam one button with another toggled on is through PA (power armor) in which you have to be careful as you will very quickly drain your energy to empty. While i agree that grouping is not really big and the servers dont hold alot of people you must remember that these servers are first and foremost instances and hold a limited number of people but never once did i have any problems with seeing people nor finding them. The whole point of grouping is finding people you work well with and sticking with them or finding people who suit your needs at the time.
personally i am enjoying the game but i must admit that some of the things they have done so far have made me a little frustrated such as nerfing eye beam now thats something to call lame
OP: Just wanted to point out that you're complaining about spawn camping and competing for quests. Then you turn around and say the game isnt group friendly. Do you see the irony?
You'd be surprised how quickly someone will join a team with you if theyre in an area waiting for spawns. Nobody likes doing this, especially if theyre waiting on a super villain to spawn and trying to solo them. After about the third time of getting killed by this mob, ya..they'll join your team.
so instead of complaing about spawn camping and people not grouping, how about .. well trying to group and stop competing for spawns with others around you. Its more of a team game than you think it is.

$120 game and early discounted 6 month subscription. There is always exceptions to the rule and you can def. pick apart my post and tell me Im wrong but, in the end its just my opinion. So call me stupid and whatever else I understand what comes with posting your opinion on a forum.
I believe the shards are a step backwards for mmorpg gamming not foward.
What are you talking about here...
I have a frost toon and mostly what I do is have Ice Shards (the enemy builder) toggled on and spam Ice Blast 95% of the time.
That is exactly what the OP was talking about... same with fire, or dual swords... just about all the power sets I tried are like that.
All of these problems were identified during alpha and early beta, many testers were passionately asking for changes to be made for months to allow more varied forms of play to be enjoyed without feeling you are overly disadvataging yourself.... not trolling but actually wanting the game to be true great - on all levels. Unfortunately the focus was so obsessed with the avatar everything else either felt underwhelimng, aribrtrary and generic.
You can create a great avatar in CO but you then step into a world that treats you all as the same person, has one thing to do, and one way to do it, all aspects that undermine the very variety the creator should offer...its as if the game were two opposing halfs wanting to destroy the efforts of the other.
The theme needed to be developed to produce a world that offered a wide diversity of play paths and choices, whether teamed, whether passive, whether aggressive, whether thoughtful or whether thoughless the avatars playstyle is their character and the game somehow needs to deliver real variety where it actually matters. I would hope that all future content/pathes are aimed in that direction but I think its far more difficult to introduce the nescessary variety at this stage than if it had been given its appropriate priority at the outset.
The accountants should not be controlling the creative side of the project, but it feels like the case here.
After everything I did in CO with beta and post-patch... I'd have to say IMHO that the primary reason I won't be playing this game is the challenge... there really isn't any. The combat always felt generic and didn't feel like it had very much depth :-( I too was disappointed although the customization was good! (My character was so good I have pics saved on my PC to show my friends!)
I hope the console release will save this game... the gamepad controls are fairly well developed but as console launch still hasn't even been mentioned since July (and it was a "we don't know when" post at that) and even at launch nothing has appeared... I just hope for CO's sake they get it out soon or else I fear the worst.
In the end, if you liked CoH and are looking for better graphics, this game is for you. I persaonlly can't see much of a community after 3 months unless they get new info out about the console releases. A lot of players are looking for console based MMORPGs and hopefully CO can deliver that to them.
Coming from EU CoH where I saw the population of my server dwindle to almost nothing so I had to switch servers, losing my characters in the process; coming from EU WAR where I saw the population of my server dwindle to almost nothing until they merged my server with another - not once but twice - losing my names in the process:
I believe you are utterly wrong.
Im having fun in the game. I find it to be group friendly, just joined a SG so now I have more friends to group up with.
After lvl 10-12 combat is at least 3 buttons, at least not including block , passive powers and travel powers. after lvl 20 or so, i usally have 5 buttons, not including block, passive and travel powers. At level30, I have 9 buttons, blah, blah, blah.
I dont have a problem with spawn camping, the spawn times are very fast. so there little waiting. of just group up at the spawn and let the group have the kill or escort quest. A little talking goes along way.
Theres also PvP, wich my son plays alot, there several types of matches and a few arenas to play in. His got his B.A.S.H silver belt and Luchero cape, both gaudy as all can be. Just as you would expect out of a wrestling spectacle.
IM sorry you didnt find the game fun, best of luck in finding one!
Dax.
True. I haven't had any problems finding a group. I see people asking for them all the time. With the recent changes it isn't a pure solo friendly game anymore either. I get my ass handed to me a lot now. But not bcause I am weak. It's because I take on more than I should be able to. Most superheroes are tough, but not invincible. Which is the way it was before the patch. It was so easy it was stupid. I could pull big groups of mobs before, hit my auto attack and watch tv.
I agree. The sharding seems like a good design choice.

Are we talking about the same game here?
On Tuesday I spent about 5 hours in a group that consisted of:
- A Melee tank using defensive role holding aggro.
- A Sorcery support character with heals and group buffs.
- An Ice support character with CC's (one of their jobs was to catch the "run for help" MOB's)
- A Darkness DPS character.
It was challenging because of the "run for help" mechanic. Everyone had a role and did their job well. We got loads of extra experience for working in the group. Group roles are alive and well in CO, but there is one catch. You have to actually use them.
Sounds good. A standard MMORPG PvE group. Good to see that it's viable in the game.
Unfortunately, even that level of co-op play is beyond a lot of players.

Blah blah blah blah blah blah.
This isn't in reference to anyone in particular, it just happens that lately anytime I say anything bad about this game I get a Warning, as it is apparently 'trolling' to say anything negative at all. Do I blame this on the moderators? In part, yes. But it's that 'report' button that is the culprit here. It seems that if anyone says something you don't like 'somebody' gets their frilly little panties in a bunch.
"Nah, the game sucks. It's a half-assed console button masher with plastic action figures."
In this post I simply responded to what the OP had said. He asked if the game was done right and said that he felt it 'sucked' in beta, so I merely responded using the same term 'it sucks' and went on to give a short description of why I felt this way.
If the moderators are going to take every report to heart and penalize people for expressing a negative opinion then there is no point in having a discussion about anything.
I could go around hitting the report button anytime anyone says anything I don't like, but I refrain from it as I feel that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and as a forum this is the place to express it. But that is exactly what I am going to start doing if I get one more warning over some stupid shit like this.
The gauntlet has been thrown down. I've been a pretty good member of this site for nearly 5 years. I don't troll, but I don't hold back when I have a negative opinion that fits within the content of the thread to which I am responding because I feel counterpoints add to an intelligent debate.
Needless to say I am very displeased.

In some ways the lack of a dedicated group role isn't the fault of the developers, because it's actually very true to the PnP Champion's game. Character creation in the MMO, while not as deep, works along the same line. So on this way you have to give Cryptic kudos for sticking true to the PnP game.
But the thing is, in the PnP game your normally gathered around a table with a group of your buddies and discuss who's making what kind of super so that your Supergroup when it's created kinda all mesh with each other. Yea, that's not going to be happening very often in this game so I see what you are talking about there Rumble. This might be one of those instances where staying true to the source doesn't always translate easily into a MMO.
Rummblebelly, why did you spend so much on this title?
EDIT: nevermind, I missed your response on the previous page, my bad. If a mod can delete my post, i'd appreac. it.
Momo sucks, I have proof.
You can team, you can pvp, you can rp, you can solo, you can indulge in community...... but CO doesnt encourage or assist the player, nor does it make these things as intuitive or accessible as many other mmo's.
Cryptic spent a lot of time and effort and made a roaring superhero creator, but then they 'made do' with the most basic and generic mmo world imaginable. The theme is absent from the core world design so all the emphasis falls on the player to find reasons to care or make an effort.....now some will love that approach, some will despise it, most will fall some where in between and will find it a sterile and bland experience. The theme is the glue that should unite content with concept to make the game as whole better than the sum of its parts, but in CO content, theme and concept are all at odds much as you want to love it, finding the justification is a lot harder than it should be.
This made me laugh.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
If you were really in Beta you would know that the game is class-less with a role system because the community asked for it.
The game in the early build had classes. People are tired of it. Many new games are moving away from the old trinity (dps-tank-healer) only way to play a game. The Devs heard the community and they changed the game to what is today. Flexibility. You can play a tank with ranged attacks or melee or buffs or debuffs or healing. You can go to a group and not need a tank. Everyone will share the pain and the fun. Your choice.
Do you want to play the old way or to think outside the box? Both works. Just play/build for it.
It's bound to happen in a classless design. I favour class and level based MMORPGs because they do encourage party formation and team play.

This is the #1 reason I'm enjoying CO right now...it's build is so flexy I haven't tired of seeing what I can come up with. To be fair, I started this game on release date, as I've found that I never, ever end up sticking with a game I play in beta, so I have a ways to go before I exhaust the game, but so far I love the style and approach the game takes, and it feels like a step up in every sense from COH. But hey, I'm a slow player and it'll take me months to finish what most hardcores exhaust in three weeks, so no hurry for me, here!
