LOL. Look guys, Dark Basic is a great 3D Gaming tool to make assembling 3D games much easier.
But first off, you need to try and make a simple 3D game to learn a little. I don't mean play with the demos included with Dark Basic. I mean from scratch, make your own single player game that works. Make it fun. Make it better.
It's great to have an imagination, to have dreams, and to have no end to your creativity. But you don't just start off with your first game ever and say Hey me and my friend Bob are gonna make a mmorpg! It' doesn't happen that way.
First off, you are talking about thousands of hours of coding. Then thousands more hours refining and de-bugging. Okay so you do all that, and you have the perfect mmorpg! Now what!??
YOU NEED SERVERS! These aren't cheap and cannot be bought at Best Buy for $49.95 and be capable of hosting lots of players, sorry guys. Good servers will cost thousands of dollars, or even tens of thousands... then your monthy upkeep will cost atleast hundreds of dollars, likely thousands.
That is, if you wanna have more then like 16 people in your world.
I'm not trying to blast your dreams guys. I'm simply stating the facts.
Start small. Single player. Make it a good, fun game. Learn just how much work and time that takes alone. Trust me, I've programmed my own games before, and just a basic 3D Pacman game or a 3D maze shoot the monster & seek treasure game can take TONS of work to get it right and fun to play without bugs.
I'm just telling you, yes you have a great tool. And I'm sure you have grand ideas. But you don't start with a new cordless drill (Dark Basic) and a small pile of wood (your computer and servers now) and build the Empire State Building. Gotta start small. Make a birdhouse first. Then a cool doghouse. Then maybe a cool little wooden and steel car with an engine that actually runs.
But regardless, don't let me shoot your hopes down, just take what I'm saying and try and understand. And most of all Don't give up, Don't quit, and Good Luck!
