Assessment Thus Far

I will note that I was in CB and stopped playing in the mid-20s as I didn't want to 'know' too much of the game at release.

1. Graphics - SOme folks are saying anime/cartoony but the bottom line is that they are quite beautiful (someof the humanoid mobs are a bit odd but not to me a game breaker)

2. Music - Give me the soundtrack for the car. Great stuff.

3. Controls - Good but with some tweakings. Some folks like the auto-run to target, some don't. Was vexing to me as a melee initally then tab targetting took over. The profanity flter is silly/strict but that's NCSoft since day 1. What can you do?

4. Servers - Today has been troublesome. After the Account Management page came up I changed my PW and logged in. 15 minutes later I logged out and took a nap. There was mad lag, clipping, rubber banding. OW. After an hour and half I logged back on and all was well. I did see a few other folks rubber banding but I had no issues even on high. (I have a good PC but a far cry from a gaming rig)

5. NCSoft communications and clarity - This has always been an issue for them. I never got an email about changing my PW to log on. Once I managed to actually log onto the forums, I saw what I had to do (Acct Mgmt was down at that point) but I never got the initial 'Do This!

6. Crafting/Collection - The collection quests kind of steeer you to keeping up with gathering to get the XP. The crafting isn't difficult nor particularly tedious. It's not a game breaker either. Crafting helps but it won't make you super man(or woman).

Overall. I enjoy the game. It's not a 'This is the last game I'll ever need to play' but it's fun, pretty and generally enjoyable

Seconded on all accounts. Although I have to ask, what do you think of the new voices, the new character shapes, and also, were all your CB characters deleted? I wasn't expecting that bit- grr.

I agree with OP so far, only problem is the obvious lag, but that'll clear up hopefully once people start spreading out and the servers stabilize.

yeah, this is the only mmo where I have ever left the sound enabled. I love the asmodian sound when your character goes into battle, it feels intense haha.

I had no interest or intention to play this game since i am pretty tired of the fantasy gendered mmorpg's but after recieving the Beta invite I thought why not.  Anyway,  I do give them credit. There graphics are the best to come along since LOTRO. Some avatars are a little strange but I can live with that. Character movement looks natural and I like the spell effects. Gameplay is of course really easy at the lvl I am at and the zones don't look very large. Not sure If I will buy it yet but I will be playing as long as I can to see what else it has to offer.

Really? I think they announced it a number of times.

They can adjust a game all day, but they can't help the issue between the keyboard and the chair.
Played: UO, DAoC, AC, WoW, EVE, TR, WAR, Aion, Rift, SWTOR, GW2, TSW, ESO, Elite:D
Play EVE for free for 21 days

Figured that they meant for the actual release. Doesn't matter much, time to try another class anyway. ^^

I think I got lucky and picked a nice voice for my toon, but I might swap out the voice pack with the japanese or korean one when it goes live.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

  • DignaDigna Member UncommonPosts: 1,994

The voices are alright. I think i picked Callous and it seems a bit gruff. Sort of 'Don't make me talk to you as I don't want to hear my own voice!' The NPCs voices are 'Meh...' at best but again not a game breaker (I do think they should re-work some of the weasels' voices, those don't fit at all).

I knew the CB toons were going to be deleted and honestly the voice I had in CB...I didn't mind it. I would love to see the OB toons carry over into the game but thus far they are doomed as well. (L2 was supposed to delete the toons but ended up keeping them).

I'm torn between putting in time to seriously work my toons in OB in the hopes they 'live' versus poking around and playing with alt classes knowing they are doomed.

What I found pretty amazing the moment I logged in, where the realistic clouds and sky effects.

When it rains, the clouds look dark, move rapidly and realisticly. Really really well done. And adds sertainly to the immersion.

This has to be one of the best sky systems I have seen so far.

Agreed. Once in a  while I'll grimace a bit but it won't be anything to make me stop playing.

At the tender age of 38 I have started gaming.  My boyfriend (10 years younger) started me on Dungeon Runners, then City of Heros ( I prefer being a villain) , then I went on an Age of Conan kick that lasted a few months.  I tried WOW but absolutely hated it.  I found it boring to look at and play.  I've been playing Aion since yesterday (1/2 hour yesterday and 2 hours this morning) and so far I absolutely love it.  It's visually pleasing as well as music to my ears.  I am looking foward to earning my wings.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with what you said.  About the only things I differ one is the music is rather forgettable to me.  I'm not saying it's bad just doesn't stand out to me or is really memorable in my opinion.

Other thing is I find collecting in this game a bit annoying.  Mainly because it is a bit tedious in my opinion and also the fact that you have the same "jedi soul sucking move" used no matter what you are gathering.  I suppose that's being a bit nitpicky but it just looks corny to me.

Overall though, I do really like the game so far.  Servers are gonna be a bummer at times while they stress test but should get better as the week progresses.  Least until towards the end when I would imagine they try to do something to push it to the max.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I am just glad these lag issues are being sorted out during the beta. A lot of people seem to not understand why companies host beta events like this. It is specifically so they can have issues occur and fix them so that they don't happen when the game goes live.

So far, I am really enjoying this game. Good story-line, good gameplay. I am not sure I like Mage (I won't play above level 10, waiting til the game goes live for that) so I might switch over to Scout. The graphics are absolutely top notch, I have a pretty good computer and the scenery is just breathtaking. I am excited to get my wings and zip around a bit, can't wait for the headstart to begin.

You don't seem to realize... most people have to PAY for this "open" beta.  If that's not true, I'd love to know where the free keys are coming from.  I'd like to try the game and help them TEST.  But I refuse to pay to help a company test their game.  FilePlanet has only keys for paid subscribers, and that service is utterly useless.  The only other way I know of to get a key is to preorder, which again costs money, and in fact commits you to buying the game.

People would be more understanding if it didn't cost money.

You pre ordered the game unless you subscribed on fileplanet only to get a key so you can cancel your order anytime before it's out.

For myself, I got into the beta because I pre-ordered the game. If these lag issues persist during launch, I will voice my disapproval, but during a "beta TEST" event it seems tacky to call the company on having issues with their software. If you, or anyone else, paid FilePlanet specifically to play the beta, I have empathy toward you, but you should have known better. This wasn't an opportunity to play the retail version of the game, no one ever said, "things will be great, enjoy your 2 week subscription." These lag issues aren't even that bad, it's obvious none of you played during WoW's open beta, or CoH. Or WAR for that matter, you couldn't even log on for 2 days.

The female youth avatar voice set is SOOOOOO annoying in combat sounds like the girl is getting raped or something and even if you are just near someone with that voice set it overpowers everything else. Such a migrain maker I ended up disabling sound because of it.

Again... it's still not an open beta.  To get in you either had to get lucky, and snag one from a limited giveaway (they went fast on this site, in case you hadn't noticed).  Otherwise, you had to pay for a preorder, or a FilePlanet account.
