I've watched about 10 videos of different raid/dungeon bosses and except the abnormal HP and melee damage plus the standard AoE every 10 seconds, I saw no "move out of fire abilities" or debuffs that make you move(like debuffs that will make your allies blow up or debuffs that need you to move to another debuffed ally in real time, or you both die). Basically, the healer just spammed either large heals on the tank or some AoE/shielding abilities. They probably had a Cleave-type ability as well, since the melee were behind the boss, but other than that, nothing.
This is a legit question: are all bosses in Aion that simplistic? I hate bosses that you keep hitting for 1-2h, but the only skill involved in it is to don't fall asleep.
Take a look at this video, from our good ol' buddy WoW:
Notice the switch-to-adds, reactive abilties, the way people use CC to prevent fellow mind controlled allies to blow up your raid, changing phases where bosses are using completely different abilties, the way you got 1-2 seconds to use the special effects of items useable only in that place, or you'd die.
Granted, this was in BC, and that boss got a lot of nerfs and now in WOTLK most bosses are pretty easy but the question is: can I expect to see a boss like this, where you need perfect coordonation with another 24 players to beat it?
Comments
I would guess all bosses are like that with a few exceptions .. it's just like L2 spam heal and hit for a lot of time xD
.
I actually tried to do Antharas with a few buddy clans. It was pretty fun, but that's not what I expect from a game like Aion.
There are bosses with reactive abilities, so don't get your panties in a bundle.

It is nice to see Blizzard spoiled some kids over here.
Why did you expect anything from Aion anyway? Oh the false "millions" of players in Asia. You know in the free internet cafés....
.... that were never officialy confirmed by NCSoft anyway.
Err, Zorn I hope you do know that I like WoW a lot.
The point is, a MMORPG should be complete: PvP MMORPGs or PvE MMORPGs fail from the start, since it's the RPG part that usually matters the most while the MMO part is usually horribly implemented with a few exceptions like EVE.
I thought they'd know what "cattering to the western pop" means.
WoW has evolved to be what it is today.
When WoW was first released there was nothing special the bosses did in raid/dungeons. LBRS/UBRS (15 man back then) and there was nothing special or complicated about those dungeons.
Then came MC which had some gimmicks but was pretty straight forward, and then the game evolved into BWL / AQ / Naxx which became more and more complicated at each step.
I'm not defending Aion, I'm not even gonna play it, but if it's a big hit it will evolve too.
The videos you were watching were of OPEN WORLD BOSSES. They are not meant to be difficult, because the difficult part is that you will be fighting a Boss + PVPing with the other faction for the kill at the same time which turns into a much more dynamic fight than any scripted boss event.
The bosses in Aions instances / dungeons are just as well scripted as any encounter in WoW and will not be taken down by tank and spank strats.
Indeed, you are right, WoW started to have interesting fights in AQ but the problem is, today's MMOs aren't fighting with vanilla WoW, they are fighting with the current WoW. If devs won't set up a new standard and release a complete game, they won't even be able to stay@EVE's levels(which is a damn good game for those who love that setting).
Look at WAR, it took some of WoW's population away and everyone thought that it will have many subs because WoW players like spam battlegrounds into oblivion. It was proven pretty much the contrary.
Are you staying on topic?
Or are you flaming?
Not that I would expect anything more.
To the topic, I dont know if the bosses have reactive abiliies or not.
But a couple things pop into mind.
In some of the dungeons there is the possibility of pvp between you and the other group in the dungeon. Do you think you could do Nax safety dance AND fight off another group? I cant see that happening.
Other thing makes me think, WoWs top raiding guild Ensidia is going to play AION and there 2 best players have been in beta. If the pve was bad do you think they would play? Maybe its just different.
As long as its fun, all that matters really.
First and foremost, Aion and WOW is not the same game, it's not even trying to be, Aion is an PVP game for the most part, while WOW is an PVE game, sure there is 'pvp' and 'pve' asspects in both games but it's not it's cores.
If your looking for true PVE game Aion is for sure not the game of your choise. There is ofcourse PVE and for some it's maybe even fun but the focus is mainly PVP.
It seems like some of the actual bosses are beefed up Mobs.
But I assume most of that stuff is done in the abyss right now, anyway. YOu know...beta and everything.
You may be right.
Asking if Aion has real raid encounters and not just tank and spank fights is valid.
We already know Aions combat is behind WoWs and before that found out the its even more linear questing wise with a game world about 20% the size of Azeroth.
I know alot of people like to just toss money away and with blind faith hoping a game is good. Others like to gather info.
With the info we have so far I don't see how any of my corpmates or guildies in other mmos would ever be compelled to leave for Aion.
Lame Raiding would be the nail in the coffin, so if it does have raiding suimilar to Wow someone link it please or it will just be more fuel on the fire.
So far the only feature that is different in Aion over other games is that a portal opens up in a specific zone every couple hours and lets players open world pvp for PK points and a ladder system. If that's all Aion has to offer it's even more lame that WARs repetitive siege and SC farming.

I think you misunderstood my post, which was my attempt at answering the posters question.
I cant see the top raiding guild of WoW coming to AION if the pve was horrible.
Like I said, its probably just different.

So Aion pulled a WAR on everyone? Half decent pvp with crap pve that won't hold any pve fans?
Didn't the folks at Aion release 15 raid dungeons? that sounds like pve to me. If its not the quality of other pve centric games why have that much?
Aion seems to be trying to reach out to all types of players which I actually think is a good idea. But the features need to be quality. Saying Aion is "pvp focused" is just a cop out. The devs clearly tried to make this a raid centric game also.

Guy dont you get it... They leave wow "The greatest game ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" because they decide it's not the greatest game ever and sucks horribly and they want something new.... but then they say hey... this isn't like WoW... dubba u tee eph **** this **** i'm not playing it if its not exactly like WoW which I dont want to play anymore well I dont want to play it while its called and looks like WOW I just want wow to update its graphics....
"Sometimes people say stuff they don''t mean, but more often then that they don''t say things they do mean"
Damn people I ALREADY ANSWERED THIS QUESTION.
YES THEY DO.
Watch the Aion GDC 2009 Video.
There is a Mini Boss as part of a huge raid instance who randomly sends out pulse type things which stun and damage you if you dont time your defensive abilities right and he also can throw and hold you up in the air, so your teammates will have to use their abilities to get you down.
Then movement comes into play because the direction your moving affects things too. If your moving to the side it increases your dodge, forward your attacks and if you get caught backing up with an attack you'll take extra damage, among other things.
That isn't even all of it but about 20 seconds worth of what he explained about a longer fight that isn't even a major boss.

Of course!
I played wow for years and it took me forever to find a game that I wouldn't leave in a month. Wow gets tedious so people leave but compared to other themeparks its actually very good.
If it wasn't for a game that gave me a totally new experience like Eve I would still be playing WoW bored out of my mind due to the lack of quality this genres themeparks offer.
Aion will get a massive amount of WoW players in NA/Euro at first. But once the repetitive pvp, raids and quests get boring they will go back to the characters they've worked on for four years.
That's just what the majority of first time mmoers (people that started with WoW) do.
As for the OP I checked out a few Youtube videos just now and I think I saw a boss encounter that resembles something we would have seen in MC so yeah they have real raid content.

I used WoW mostly because that encounter was in top 5 hardest encounters in WoW, done by <10 guilds before he was nerfed.
The main point is, a PvP MMO today is not that great. You need to have a decent balance of PvE content that is challenging to some extent: challenging through coordonation and reactions, and not through high damage and 1-2h fight durations. Hard PvE content is a thing needed in most MMOs, not just WoW.
Maybe Logangregor is right, I probably didn't see the actual high of high-end dungeons to make an impression and Ensidia playing might mean a lot, but it might as well mean nothing. Many guilds were dissapointed with WOTLK's difficulty compared to AQ40, Old Naxx and pretty much everything in BC, so they are expecting a decent PvE game from this one, since NCSoft stated that is a polished and PvPvE game.
What I want to see now is someone who played on .cn servers and can make us a brief description of actual PvE. It would help a lot because I learnt from so many MMOs that hype can be bad.
Edit: Varknyn, that sounds pretty cool, it seems that I could be wrong after all

You have been trolling every thread since open beta launched and you decided AION wasn't the game for you. Now i'm sure WoW is a good game even though I hated it because it has a lot of players... so i'm saying ... get this... wow is a good game, even though I hated it because it wasn't what I wanted.... Thats crazy right. Okay Other games that you do not play... have player bases! Imagine that... soo even though it's not a fit for your directly other people enjoy it and they choose it over World of Warcraft. Are you with me?
So if you dislike AION? Go play a game you enjoy like WoW, thats not an insult... that's advice to help you come off as a mature homosapian inhabiting this earth. WHen I played WoW and I disliked it... guess what I did? I said ah **** this and went to EQ2. Did I troll the forums? Nope, why? What would that accomplish other than me showing how insignificant my life is that I get emotionally hurt over my feelings towards a MMO that I had expectations for or something. It's just not that serious. If you can get to level 5 and say this game is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then it's prolly just not the game for you, I did that with Fallen Earth and WoW. So I dont play them... I dont go to their forums... and I stick to what I enjoy.

You look like an ass right now... I guess your mmorpg.com criticism is your attempt and helping the game be better? Guy go submit a bug report, give your advice to NCSoft if you have an opinion to make the game better. The only thing your doing is sitting in a gaming community forum trying to tell people why a game is not WoW and that they should not play it. You arn't even extending your advice to those who can change the game. "Sometimes people say stuff they don''t mean, but more often then that they don''t say things they do mean"
I do hope that the boss fights require some sort of skill and coordination as far as party and jobs. I dont mind hitting on a mob to kill it, but it definately makes a kill more enjoyable when everyone your partied up with does their job to get the boss killed. I did enjoy the banter posted previously. I never played wow and never will. My roommate plays whenever there is an expansion, then quits once he has capped his characeter and there is nothing else to really do....which is a few months. I play Final Fantasy 11 which came out before wow. Most people I know who left FFXI to play Wow do the same thing, they leave for a few months to play the expansion then come back. Anyway Imo FFXI takes more skills to play than Wow, but I do have to say it is more of a grinding game than wow too. Back to the subject, I do hope some of the bosses and higher end mobs have reactive abilities. A game that makes you try and figure out how to kill a mob by means other than just hit and heal is very satisfying.
