I am kinda surprised AION runs in Asia a year already o.0

YunbeiYunbei Member Posts: 898

I have played Aion now for a mere 2 days, played two chars to 15 and 2 other to 11. So far it looks like solid entertainment; nothing to kick me out of my shoes, but solid fun.

What kinda surprises me is that this game is running in Asia for a year, and given that much experience the game is in an oddly bad state. My first class was Ranger, and boy was that a hassle. Coordinating all that stuff: kiting, evading others mobs, press the various attack buttons, switch to close combat... sure you can call it demanding, but I call it bad implemented. With Ranger there is always the difficulty to keep the enemy at a distance and IMVPO kiting is a way of the past MMO era, when devs didnt know any really intelligent way to deal with the Ranger issue and gamers came up with a workaround: kiting. Maybe its because it kinda beats my sense that I hate lolcoptering and bunnyhopping and all that because it reminds me more of Mario than a RPG. I am surprised after 1 year Asia running such chaotic stuff is still in the game.

Oh and there is RESTING back. I really thought this had died with the EQ1 era. Hated it back then and hate it now. I dont know how a 2009 game really can have a resting downtime where you sit and do nothing. Ok you can do potion spamming, which is hardly better. I dunno, it totally beats my sense of action that my char has to sit down in the wilderness. Its just bad design.

Talking to people with other classes and trying out some a bit myself I found the balancing is oddly... nonexistent. It constantly shifts. At one moment your class is ok, then you level up a bit and you rest after every fight suddenly. It always goes up and down, and I dunno, I would expect a ONE YEAR OLD game would have a more balanced difficulty curve by now.

Other than that the newish factor still makes me enjoy the game, but the Westernization was only a bit succesful. Sure you level with quests and not grinding (so far), but downtime, potion spamming, 100% linearity and the nonexistent balancing has SO written ASIA MMO over it. (Not to speak of the mobs like "sparklie mushroom hopper". ;)  )

Just a first impression.

Funny thing is I hated the mobs too. I felt like I was in Free Realms or something. The game is decent, and the Abyss I m sure will be fun for awhile and I stress awhile, but the game just didn t do it for me. If there are people out there like me when it comes to MMOs, they ll get bored fairly fast IMO.

Yep bandages all the way and not sure because so far I've only played casting type classes but do the other types get those abilities around lvl 10 where if they can get a sp/hp boost when using the odium bags or whatever they're called you can purchase as well?

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Hmmm challenging fighting with the Ranger? and actual downtime?

Sounds pretty good dude and is the first positive thing I've read on Aion. Thanks for the Info more games need to be like EQ.

Also Kiting takes skill dude, getting rid of it is lame.

Eh...most aren't that bad in my opinion.  However, the rabid, maniacal ewoks you come across in the Asmo zones made me give out a heavy sigh.

I think some of the mobs look rather cool but there are some that I simply find lame looking or downright corny.

A lot of the problems you described with your Ranger class can easily be fixed by playing in groups. In fact Ranger is the fastest leveling class in a duo and one of the best mana maintaining DPS classes in the game.

But none of those is a problem if you group up with others, before you say, but I wan't to solo, well true, but I also need to add into it that korean games by design is more group friendly then solo friendly, this does not mean you cannot solo, you just usually don't earn on it.

It's a hit or miss for most, personally for me it's a hit as I NEVER solo in MMO's, I canno't find anything more boring to do then solo. I also hope it won't get to close into the SOLO aspect then it already are, it kind of lose it meaning of being an MMO, the feeling I never had in most western games, where you play for yourself in a big world.

thats my Idea of FUN :)

That is how a Ranger should be not some half arsed sorcerer in leather armour with all out roots or a bloody pet.

Rangers where fun because if you chose to play solo they kept you on your toes Aion brought that fun back to being a Ranja.

You need solo friendly content in mmos. What happens when no guildies are online or the zone you want to hunt in has no other adventurers?

Do you gather resources in group also? lol

A class that only works in a group is flawed imo.

You should atleast be able to solo hunt with some efficency.

Sad to see that WoW has turned most of the MMORPG community into lazy whiners.

God forbid Aion would actually have some HARD raid content, all the kids would cry for years instead of learning to play their class and actually win. They would probably just switch games. I mean seriously, why even release a NEW raid dungeon, if its so easy that people can clear 90% of it in the first week?

Oh well enough about that crappy game.

If you don't like Aion, just go somewhere else.

Its a much better game than WoW if you actually get into it and play.

ya the way its designed ,if you got a master strategist in front of you even if hes not assassin he can pawn you

and around the corner like in wow isnt needed it made so you can defend attack, dodge etc at first it sound clunky and badly designed but with correct timing(AND TIMING IS THE WORD)you can have good pvp fight even epic

you have the time to be scared of dying or elated of winning

its just the learning to play this that is clunky once the kink are smoothed out ,not one class can 1 or two shot someone

you have plenty of time to react ,YES REACT to your foes attack let me tell you ,here its not kiting its more combat move

brcause  kiting isnt necessairy and when its needed you got plenty of time to react to it too
