CB no problems...OB HUGE GameGuard Problem

GameMonger71GameMonger71 Member UncommonPosts: 122

It could just be me, but from the looks of the Aion Source forums it is not, but man Aion has some serious issues on the first day of OB with GameGuard.  Before the GameGuard problems, which will not even allow me to get back into the game, the lag was pretty bad.  I am hopeful they will get this reworked soon.  I had fun in CB and expect to have more fun soon.  It is just frustrating when this happens.  I am not going to join the gloom and doom folks (although I am sure they will love adding this title to their sights after AoC and WAR pretty much flopped).  This is just the first day of OB and problems do occur.  Now, if the problem continues....

Yep. I played CB and had no problems. Now, I've been having GameGuard problems all day long.

I've seen that people have uninstalled their firewalls to get the game to work. I'm not willing to do that.

Rohan works fine for me. It uses GameGuard. The Chronicles of Spellborn worked for me. It uses GameGuard.

As much as I like the idea of Aion, I'm not going to change the firewall and anti-virus I use so I can play this game. I know it's just the first day of Open Beta, so they have time to fix it, but it's been a very frustrating day so far. If this doesn't get addressed in the next few days, I'm going to cancel my pre-order.

Hmm, if other games use GG, but they work fine, but Aion doesn't work fine.  I am not even sure I want to call that GG's issue.  It could still be possible though.

As for firewall, there are ways to configure it so it doesn't have to be uninstalled.  However, I think uninstall is faster if someone is desperate.  I saw alot of information about how to configure those on different sites.  GG only caused me very little problems in the past, but I have configured my system to be able to run games with GG with firewall and AV on.  I think there are alot of helpful information that solve these issues, but probably need to serach for it since I haven't had any real problem with GG quite a long time.

This could be why I didn't have any problem with it at all in OBT.  Now if I can just get rid of my friend who is hogging my account for OBT and not showing any signs of leaving even though it is dinner time already....

It could be Karma anyways, too many people called GG PoS, so GG's revenge maybe? LOL  j/k of course.

Theirs a thread here some where that points out a few ways to fix it

can't find it atm, will bump if i see it

I've done everything short of uninstalling my firewall. Turned off my anti-virus (AVG). That didn't help. Made both Aion and GameGuard trusted in my firewall (Zone Alarm). Turned on "Game Mode" in my firewall. That did not help, either.

Uninstalled the entire thing, NCSoft Launcher and all. Downloaded the Open Beta Client and reinstalled. That didn't help.

Like I said, other games on this box that use GameGuard work fine. This is an Aion problem.

It could be Aion, or it could be Gameguard's patching went wrong.  It is hard to say which.

If you are against turning off firewall for a few minutes to see if it is the source of the error conflict by launching Aion, then it can't be helped  I don't think a few minutes would hurt, one of my friend even told me he never used AV and firewall for the past 5 years and never had any problems, but he is better at computers than I am.

If your ISP connection provide a firewall somewhere (in the modem or whereever), turning ones off in the system might not actually change much.  However, don't let me talking you into anything, I don't want to mess someone's comp up even if it is by accident.

If its not fixed in the next couple days your cancelling your preorder?

What if the problem is fixed in 3 days ?

So to summarize what you're saying: "The beta is acting screwy on the first day and if it continues, I may just give up on the game; but I won't quit after the first day, because I know its a beta and might have a few bugs."

    Oh. Ok.

Jesus fucking Christ. Read my post. I said "the next few days."

Edit: Not only that, I said "addressed" not "fixed." Even if they post on their site, "We realize some people are having issues with GameGuard and we are looking into it." that will be enough for me to not cancel.

I turned off the firewall and tried to play. Still the same GameGuard problem.

I don't have any firewall or virus programs installed on my pc and i'm having problems with gameguard also. I don't get any error numbers it just shuts down aion. I played throughout the closed beta without any problems so something in the patch is causing problems. Hopefully they fix it soon, wasn't planning on playing much through the open beta. Would hate to see these problems still around on launch day though.

    News flash:

A game isnt a beta when it's been available for a year.

  • AnimusChaserAnimusChaser Member Posts: 91

This is working for alot of people. What seems to be happing ins some where along the line the GG auto patch process is stuffing up.

    Try This:

Aion Install Location > bin32 > GameGuard > Scroll down till you see GameMon.des.

    Delete GameMon.des

Launch Aion let GG repatch itself and it should work.

This has helped 6 people I personally know with their GG problems. Let us know if it works for you :)

It is when the game had to be revamped for a different region. What works in Korea, or China, does not always work for Europe and North America.

I think this is from the patching 3 days ago most likely.  When GG and NCsoft was patching the server up to 1.5 I noticed some patching error start showing up.  I resolved them myself on my computer, but I didn't know it actually played a part in the OBT launch issues today.   Today is just one interesting information after another, but I suppose that explained why my OBT worked smoothly.

Doing the steps above forces Game Guard to do a full repatch which fixes most problems :)

That is why this fix deals with most problems, most problems occur during the patching of GG unfortunately

    Thank you for this.

    Exactly,

Just like the login and patch servers got borked yesterday when OB opened. So did the GameGuard updater servers it seems.

Several times when I tried to log into the game, it hang on the GG updater.

I just waited an hour till most peeps were into the game and then launched again... GG patched up without probs and I was in.

I have played so many games with GG and on so many different systems (even Apple Mac's with bootcamp) and never ever had Gameguard issues I couldn't resolve.

And I NEVER EVER had to dissable either my AntiVirus programs nor Firewalls!!

But then again... I don't use crap like Norton.

So if you have Norton? Avoid it like the plague!! Uninstall it ASAP and download Avast Home Edition! It's free and 10 times better then crap like Norton!!

They are using test server's build, 1.5.03, I also had this same issues in Korea with windows 7 64 (at least the one that states you're using illegal software) but they were fixed already. Just wait till NCwest gets the latest gg patch.

This didn't work for me, but I've managed to work around it to continue playing.

It starts out by minimizing the aion client and a little box pops up that says gameguard error, the gameguard will be closed. There's an OK button and thats it. If you hit ok it closes aion (i think it does at least). I just ignore it and maximize aion. Later on a box pops up in the game saying something along the lines of, An illegal program was detected shutting down. I close this one with the X in the corner. It's immediately followed by it trying to shutdown the client. I hit cancel here.

After all that it leaves you alone and you can play as long as you want, but it's pretty annoying. if anyone has a better solution to these please please share...

After weeks of CB and now OB I feel like I should hate Gameguard. If I knew what it was and how it's affecting me or not. Is it an evil cousin of fileplanet? An illegitamte offspring of Wo_ (censored)? Did George Bush invent it? Or is it just from pet caused global warming?

Im having this same problem exact problem "gameguard error the gameguard will be closed"

Ive so far ran msconfig, took off all startup programs and shutdown all non-microsoft services & repaired the game thru the NCsoft launcher.  Still not working.

I have uninstalled and am re-downloading and installing thru the NCsoft launcher now. Ill let you know if that works.

I know this might be an oldish thread, but I have just preorderd this game, and wondering if I have done the right thing with all the probs reagarding GG.

Most probems from what I've read are not the game it  self , but GG as it was written in Korea, and used in most of there MMO's over there.

I''m have Vista64, and Avast, and I know there have problems with both.

Avast recognises GG as a Rootkit, and vice versa, so they both council one another out, seems to me they should have done a better job with GG, but ther have been problems with Kaspersky as well.

As I understand if you have Avast just right click the icon in toolbar, and go "stop on access protection", then run AION or this.

It is only Aion's version of Gameguard that causes problems. The issue exists in both the NA Beta version as well as the Aion-C (China) version. The only way to play without having BSODs, Gameguard Error 114's and complete system instability is to disable the "Self Defense" feature in Avast, which can be found in "Program Settings", "Troubleshooting", and then check the box titled "Disable avast! self-defense module", and then click OK. It will ask you if you're sure. Say yes.

Or try the main websight on errors:

    http://www.aionsource.com/forum/betaboards-bug-reporting/22651-gameguard-error-codes-some-other-errors-their-known-fixes.html

Hope this helps, and when I get my copy I will install, and keep my fingers crossed.

    Have had zero problems.

Not sure why so many are having problems with GG.  It thru an error because I had a firewall up.  I let it through the firewall and no problems.
