I find it hard for them to blame 3, count them, 3 of the biggest world wide backbone providers over as little players as this open beta actually brought in. Seriously, this little marketing release wouldn't even DENT level3.net.
A backbone blackout would cause: gas stations would go down, stores like wal mart would go down, banks to go down, ATMs to go down, businesses to lose millions/billions, it would be a large and direct effect on the economy and it would be on the news and people on the internet would be screaming "Ogod the intarwebz are down". Their stuff is broken, don't let them put the blame on someone else so they don't ruin their own reputation.
If their diagnosis was actually right you wouldn't have intermittent connection to the server, you'd have NO connection to the server. NONE. ZERO.
It's not just baltimore people are going "OMG IT'S ATLANTA TO"
But it's not atlanta. Those are the main points. Right after you connect to baltimore you start connecting to AION servers. Right after you connect to Atlanta you jump to AION servers. IT'S THEIR END.
Originally posted by Sorrow To the best of my knowledge all US servers are currently in Seattle, Ill check on this in a bit but Im pretty sure of my answer. Anyone else knows different please be sure to post.
Although NCsoft West is located in Seattle, all US servers for Aion are located on the East Coast.
There is a HUGE thread about this issue over on AionSource.
I know this may sound silly , but this being a OPEN BETA test , would make it a massive Stress test , i can see your point u dont want this happening on Launch Day , no one does , but it is beta after all.
I don't mean to troll. I'm not ranting and raving. I'm not pointing fingures at NCSoft. I'm just saying that this is not part of the stress test, obviously, this is an actual issue. Only reason I posted is so that people stop saying that this is happening because it's a beta. And then I felt like stating that no matter what the issue is, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not one to play betas because they're free, I play betas of games I plan on buying, but I am really up in the air over this one and the beta is what could make me buy this game.

If this is true... the trace route has 30+ hoops... Baltimore is # 9 , so there are 21 more just inside NC Soft? If you are a network engineer please explain. if not let some one who actually knows the answers tell us.. also its non repeating test ..What does the 30+ hoops mean?
Okay Ping nor traceroute is reliable tools for this through public networks, Only tools testing open ports strait to the server make sence.
One tcp/ip rule can block / drop all icmp packets, or an shaping rule can do so, as icmp [the part of tcp/ip used by ping/traceroute] is of the lowest priority.
The amount of Hops dies not mean anything either - but rather the delays from the source to the destination = called latency. So, if you want to test properly you need to find an known sized object like an immage files of some sorts and download that a few times and then calculate the latency/bandwidth resulting. There is very little correlation between the hopcount and latency and or bandwidth available.
Lastly, the route from source to destination might actually have totally unrelated congestion, causing your problem, this is largly out of your hands - unless you have the ISP main man on speeddial.

ya THE MAKER OF THE GAME(not NCSOFT)said on twitter they are working diligently to find a lasting solution
so all we can pray for is that it works (but hes against giant like ATT LOL)
