I was playing with a friend and we were in the same location and I couldn't see him. But when I changed my "channel" i was able to see him.

WOW!!! I'm so pissed. I was liking everything about the game. It looks like they got a lot of help from the developers of Guild Wars. Since both games look identical, like the race models and such.
But this instance shit is retarded. I hated it in AoC and I'm sorry but I will not be able to handle it in Aion. I know some people wll say don't let the door hit you on the way out. That's fine, and i hope others still enjoy the game. This is just a personal pet peeve of mine.
Otherwise this game is awesome. I just don't like this instance crap.

By instanced you mean having zones? I am not sure how some of you define instance, but yeah, don't let the door hit you on the way out if that is what you base your entire opinion on.
Channels are there in case you need to do the same quest but people are present on the same spot or avoid certain things. It is there to save people time and make the playing more pleasant, plus change channel only take like 5 seconds lmao.
I don't understand why this would anger you. They have it in just about every MMO. It cuts down on lag from the amount of people playing. It makes sense to me. It's not like it keeps you out of your group members "instance".
just so you know, the first 25 lvls of the game are instanced base once you enter 25+ (Abyss Time) everyone is in the same world at the same time.
You have different channels in the newbie zones because of the large amount of players. But at later levels there's only one channel. Unless that has changed.
Instance as in. There are instances within the same zone. Or, if you ever played AoC or Guild Wars. There are sub servers for each zone. Since you obviously aren't to bright. I'll explain it for you..
You and a friend are both online and in the same zone and in the same area but in a different channel. You will not be able to interact with each other because you are not in the same channel.
Channel 1 = You
Channel 2 = Friend
You're both in the starting zone of Aldelle Basin but you aren't able to interact. Some call this instancing, its called channels in Aion. It's almost like being on a different server.
I have an account right now. If you don't believe me. MY name is Flint and I'm a level 6 Warrior on the Lumiel server.

Aion has instanced channels the first twenty levels. This is supposed to stop lag but clearly it hasen't.

Nah, you probably never played it from what I've read.
He said he was in the same spot and changed channels and his friend apeared. Thats not what the masses consider zones. Thats an instance of a zone. I wish I could be more helpfull but I havnt played so I am not sure if its instanced like AoC.
BTW I also hated the instanced mess that was AoC.

Awesome, that's all I wanted to hear. I really don't care about the lower levels and it does make sense to have it set for lower levels based on all the players. I was just worried it was like this for the whole game. So I totally won't be leaving!
Thanks guys!

Actually its the only first lvl 20 PVE maps that you can change channels. Once you hit the PvP zones after lvl 20 you cant.
It helps with overcrowding in early levels.

Alright cool thanks for the info. This makes me a happy panda!

IDK why the OP hates instances but, a well desgined game would spread the masses out over many different zones. Games have done it well in the past w/o instances. Instances just a cheep lazy way out. Same principle for end-game content. Instances is a band-aid fix.

I am not even sure if the OP even played Aion. I mean I know people have different personalities, but I don't think if a game is so awesome, someone would really care if it have channels in some areas. Especially when you can change around the channels freely.
I almost want to throw this one into one of those troll piles. However, in case the OP is obssessive compulsive about only having one instance on a given server.
I'll simply say "Apparently even when you consider a game awesome, you will only focus on small game features" People's priority and logic confuse me these days.

Ya I can't explain it, but it's just something I don't like. I'm not saying everyone hates it because obviously those that play AoC love it. I am just not one of those people. I also remember there being tons of threads of people also not liking this in AoC.
Otherwise, the game is a ton of fun. The channel and auto-follow your target are my only two concerns. Especially in PvP, the auto-follow will be very annoying.

Make a character on the Lumiel server. I'm playing right now and my character name is Flint. Just in case you don't believe that I'm actually playing the game.

Idk it's just small things annoy me and I do not know why. Like this auto-follow your target is something I hate. I know you can disable it but it doesn't change the fact that others will use it. Which will make it easier for pvp and eliminates some of the skill required.
However, it might prevent noobs from constantly moving when it won't help if you are set to auto-follow.

seriously I'm sure mmorpg.com actually has a search function.
You will find 100s of posts on this and then 100s of answers saying its only for the newb zones to gate people through with a more pleasurable experience. Post 25 you are not instanced/zoned off from your friends.
