Hunter pet question.

I'm a Level 16 Night-elf Hunter.  The first pet I got for myself was that Owl creature at Level 10.  For the past 6 levels, I've always been using my Owl, he's already at a level 6 friendship and he's level 16 in combat like me.  He's a helpful fella, but I was hoping to get a stronger creature.  So I found a level 5 Moonstalker.  So I ran back to a Stable Master, put my Owl in it, ran back, tamed the Level 15 Moonstalker and compared it's stats to my Level 16 Owl.  My Owl is SO much stronger, plus he is very friendly cause I've been using him for so long, compared to the Moonstalker that is Level 1 rebellious!

My question is this:

Should I just keep using my Owl?  or should I ditch him now and keep going with a less stronger Moonstalker that could maybe become stronger than the Owl as it levels up?

Or maybe it's just because the Moonstalker isn't a great choice creature to begin with versus other creatures, like my Owl?

    well I haven't played a hunter really but some of my friends are playing them... I thought the purpose of having multiple pets that you've leveled up is that they have different strengths and weaknesses. A wolfs armor is less than a bear but the wolf attacks a lot faster, that sort of deal. Maybe you should train up the Moonstalker and see how it does in certain things and if its not good then just dismiss it later. I'd keep your Owl though if you've been liking it so far, you may decide to go back to it later if another pet just isn't cutting it.

    Now my question is, is a pet stronger if lvled over time rather than just getting a higher lvl pet?? like is D2 a merc was stronger if lvled over time from a low lvl versus the strength of a higher lvl merc acquired later in the game. Is this is case in WoW?? Does anyone know?

    I was also told that some pets can learn combat moves that help allot.

    Also to make your pet mroe loyal and happy, dont you need it feed them?

    Remember that for your pets the two most important attributes are health and armor.  Also remember that DPS for a monster fluxuates greatly on their happiness (The Moonstalker probly was unhappy and therefore did damage way below its potential, unhappy = 75% damage content = 100% damage hapy = 125% damge).  Also, because you do so much more damage than your pet, you don't really need to worry about its DPS.

    Actually I ditched the Moonstalker. It has an ability exactly like Growl, except worst. So I stayed with my Owl for awhile, then I got one of those wolves in Ashenvale when I reached Level 20! THEY OWN!!!! Okay so I had 30 minutes of hell since a creature without growl is a pain in the @ss, but as soon as he was Level 2 in friendship, I teached him Growl, he takes all the damage, and now my Wolf OWNS!

    Except instead of a crappy Claw attack that deals 5-15 damage (? am I correct ?) the wolf has BITE which deals up to 24 damage!!!!!!!!!!! Apperantly Bears also have bite (hmm, that sounded like Barqs has bite) but I don't want a bear... I want an uber dog or cat! And the moonstalker had crappy skills... I never liked cats anyways... man's best friend is the only way to go!

    Tis a good point you raise there, I myself am a warlock and my pets are alot differnt to the ones o a hunter But i did hear something about teaching another pets skill to your current pet. And as for the damage i also heard that there are TONNES o rankings of the differnt skills (Claw Rank 1,2,3,4 etc.)

    The higher level a pet you tame have, the more ability ranks it can have. I think...
