Ok, so I gave up on WAR after only a couple of months when it first came out. It wasn't the unbalanced PVP like most complained about (I personally think PVP should be unbalanced somewhat as a lightly armored Runepriest shouldn't be able to 1v1 say...a Marauder). What made me quit was boredom. I just no longer felt like there was anything worthy to do in the game.
Well, I've returned and there are some pros and cons. I'm noticing a lot more bugs with the game than when it even originally came out. Quest icons don't always appear above NPC's heads, sometimes my rifle (Dwarf Engineer) fires from my back while my character shoots with his fingers, and a few other minor things (like I once got killed for jumping off a rock that was probably 10 inches off the ground).
But, what matters is that I am having fun playing again. The community is VERY small. I sometimes feel like I am playing by myself and occassionally a real person will run by to do their own thing. The biggest attraction seems to be the RVR and if you want people, they are all there battling. PQs are virtually empty in the lower levels and its hard to find players to do hard personal quests with. I'm currently on the 10 day return trial for old members and after that expires, I'll be resubbing a month. I'm going to stick with it I think and see where the devs take it.

Your allot braver than me there sir, i don't have the odassity to give it a second try, i got my bright wizard to 40 and everything just seemed like it came to an end, but i hope it works out on the second chance, let me know how that goes.
Played:
Lineage 2, World of Warcraft, Everquest 1, and 2 , Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo 2, Saga of Ryzom, Warhammer Online, Dark Ages of Camelot...etc
I've given the game 2 chances already and I won't give it another and I think most people feel the same way.
I came back in middle july and still playing.
PQ is empty but you can find a lot of people who gonna help you with it.... Just ask in the channel or if your in a guild, im sure your partner gonna help you.
Im currently playing a choppa and its great.
The game is not perfect but suit me well and i dont think it's gonna die like everyone said.
Stop complaining and move your ass.
I don't think it will die. If Vanguard didn't die, then this won't. Vanguard even had a major resurgence so it is not impossible for a game to bounce back.
For WAR to return to its glory:
1. They need to fix a lot of the bugs that need it.
2. They need to release an expansion that has a "can't be missed" feel to it.
3. They need to introduce at least 2 new races.
Pretty much sums it all, the game is slowly dying, had potential, cool IP, PvP, sucky devs, crappy publisher.
It's still the only proper rvr game, I don't think people will be that happy with Aion.
I think there is still plenty of games to be had with WAR, I am just waiting for SWTOR and playing WAR and had a lot of fun actually
Ok, so I take it back. The population seemingly gets bigger as you get in the higher levels. The Troll Country RVR was insane tonight!!!!! About 100 destro against us for Mandrake's keep. We battled them all the way to the top of the stairs and then back down and out the door several times. It was some of the best PVP I've ever been involved in and everyone was working together great.
I'm definitely glad I resubbed now and I am just sad I have to work tomorrow! Night
I also did some keep yesterday and it was cool. Great war again order on every tier 2.
War may have lost a couple of server but at least, the last 6 one is great and almost always full of people.
Stop complaining and move your ass.
FULL? No. No way.

I agree with the OP here.
WAR is still a great game with lots of fun to be had. I had been playing from early beta until launch and the only reason i ended up canceling was IRL issues. When i came back a few months after i couldn't get into the game because of the lack of population. T2 was dead, no scs, no pqs.
I quit for a while after that and after seeing how fail Aion beta and Champions beta were i decided to give it another go after the merged all the servers. Came back to have a great time, revamped class balance, LOTD, and pq rebalancing.
Sure its not perfect, but no mmo really is. I think mythic can easily turn around everything they did wrong in launch, but for now the game just needs its population back as the rvr requires it.
I still think this game is dripping with potential.
FULL? No. No way.
ya it better to have full server then empty thats a good call they can always add some later if they get a line up detector
B4 I would comeback:
1. needs to be more open world and lot less linear.
2. crafting completely redone and add different kinds of crafting to it.
3. Fix the lag issues with sieging keeps
4. couple new race
Hopefully they are at least thinking of these things.
Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.
Playing EVE Online and AOC.
Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD
Keep in mind that a new race means four new classes (with graphics AND gear for each) AND new zones as well.
It isn't going to happen.
"" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2
With expansion, they might. If AoC can release a x-pac, they can...
RIP Orc Choppa
maybe the new race will ha only two classes in the beginning and the two other will come later.... only speculation.
Stop complaining and move your ass.
I figured I would chime in as well on the "I went back and tried it for ten days post". I kept reading about how horrible it was and all the issues that I kept seeing were going on as far as just, problems even getting old characters back so I had to see for myself.
I had an account in open beta and then was around for the first couple of months and left out of boredom. I didnt have many characters past ten and had one that was 15. All of my characters were there and easily transferred to servers that are up and running now.
The RP servers are dead for low to mid levels. I didnt hang around to find out if it gets better at upper levels on those servers. I picked a core server to play on that had a Med pop and was also offering xp bonus. There were about four servers core servers that were Med pops and I had no issues finding plenty of RvR, Scenario pops and PQ crowds in the later levels. Early levels it can be a problem finding anyone doing PQs but there is always someone roaming around and listening in the channels. But the SCs pop easy and fairly often. Not as much as they used to though.
The community...the people I ran into at least were some of the most helpful I have ever found in an MMO. Ive played most all the major MMOs out there and when a question is asked they try to help you as much as possible. That was honestly the big factor that made me want to reup for a month or two and see how this all goes. The other factor is Im having fun again. It has been a long time since I sat at work and just thought about nothing but playing a game again, but Warhammer has drawn me in for now.
Yes it has problems. There are some glaring bugs but the few bugs I have found and reported, when I returned the next day it was fixed. In example, there was a big huge glaring quest bug in the Dwarf area. You couldn't turn one of the quests in and the NPC was not responding. My wife and I both reported the bug and the next day it was fixed. It may have only required a server reset but who knows. All I know is it was fixed and hasn't happened again.
Bottom line for me is I'm having fun. I wouldn't say everyone needs to come running back because I think there was an initial misconception about the game. But they are offering ten free days to try it whether your an old player or not. That was ten free days on my old characters. It was worth it for me.
This should be stated too about the past and the server merger. There was a point during the head start there were SOOO many people trying to log in they had to put up more servers. It got to a point that certain races and classes were not being allowed to rolled on servers and servers were filling up fast. I had to change servers at least twice during that whole mess due to being unable to login at all. Obviously that didn't last, I just have yet to see anyone mention that in the server merger that happened. Yeah its lame to come back and find the server you used to play on is gone, but its part of life in some of these MMOs.
I will warn you though, if you left for lack of anything to do but RvR or lack of end game instances, don't come back. Those issues are still there. I dont know if those will ever change because this is an RvR game. They want you to be spending your time taking keeps, killing other players and making your way through the game that way. Otherwise it might be worth the download and a try.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope it was helpful one way or another.
lol Grim, it's so sad but I am sitting here at work and watching the clock till I can get home and play some WAR.
Hey All,
I have read all of your posts and with them all together it definately sums up the WAR community. I had played the game from beta till a while after launch with my wife. She loved the game and only just stopped playing it about 4 months ago because she had some other priorities.
She loved the game and I liked the game. I have to say that I agree when it is said it has some of the best RvR out there. The only problem I had with the RvR is that one persons actions pretty much go unnoticed by the rest of the group. If you don't know what I mean then imagine you are a runepriest and you manage to rez 2 people while staying alive and being attacked by 2 people. People don't really see this and just say thanks for the rez. I wanted what I did to mean something more and to be seen by my guildmates and members of my raid group.
The game couldn't hook me for that and one other reason... I enjoy a good mix of PvE/PvP and the PvE was so linear it left a bad taste in my mouth.
So yes, WAR is worth giving another try if you have not played since the beginning but as it is stated by a few people don't depend on seeing many people for quite a few levels. You have to be very self motivated ;-p.
I work at home and playing war at the same time... life is great!
Stop complaining and move your ass.
The problem is that if someone left warhammer almost none of the issues that caused them to leave have been resolved. They are largely still there and the end result is likely to be the same as the first time around.
Server mergers are great for fixing population issues, but I've already been through several of them. They are not the solution to the games problems. Merging servers has not fixed the reason why people are leaving and things will just end up in the same situation until the next round of server mergers happens.
So...you're an attention whore? You want people to be like, "All hail the rune priest that rezzed and healed us in a fight and did the job he was supposed to do!" I don't really care if people notice my contribution. I've saved plenty of people's butts by hitting the enemy they are fighting with a nasty shot that crits them to near half health so that they can kill them in two more shots. I've done some wicked AoE bombs that wipe out a ton of destros (especially at Mandred's when they are trying to get through the door...nothing racks up the kills like Blunderbuss + Flame Turret).
I always thank the people who rezz me and when healers do a good job, I always make sure to pat them on the back after a fight. But I don't stop fighting to go, "ZOMG! HEALERS ARE DOING AWESOME! KK THX!"
To the fellow that felt underappreciated as a rune priest: The only thing I can tell you as someone that plays a couple of the melee DPS classes and a ranged dps, if it was not for those who choose to play healers, those that choose to play DPS would have one hell of a time trying to do what they do. I can understand feeling under appreciated but the evidence is there and I see it over and over again. If a warband has ZERO healers, they dont last long at all. Take that for what its worth.
I agree with another sentiment that server mergers wont fix a game. And there are some things that are definately wrong with the game like quest bugs and again some things I probably have not seen yet. But I think some folks have kinda thrown the baby out with the bathwater and said okay this game is a complete wash out and they are kinda putting warhammer on death watch.
Anyway, the point is to have fun. If your not having fun, find something, if you can, that provides the entertainment you seek.
As for me, I have to go to class tonight. And while I am in class I will be thinking of nothing but getting home and playing Warhammer. *grins* I feel ya on that Rico.
It's the hopelessness of watching them NOT fix things for so long.
The mail still doesn't work right. The search functions in the AH still don't work right. The queue system for scenarios sometimes doesn't work right.
THE GAME HAS BEEN OUT FOR ALMOST A YEAR. Fix something. Even if the fixes were small, if they were coming regularly, we would have hope that the game would improve. There is no such hope.
They STILL waste time and resources on temporary content like the live events which go away after a week.
The bare minimum they should have done by now is create another T4 area where people could roam around and kill each other for rewards and resources. Shut the city sieges down for a while and FIX them. Don't try to make the engine fit the 'vision'. Make the vision fit the engine.

They have fixed tons over the past few patches and more coming. For those who do not think so, read the patch notes, try the trial. Stop mouthing a game on past experiences with the game. Those opinions are from before the past few patches, don't say they weren't because most if n not all what people were complaining about has been fixed.
Stop judging a game based on others opinions or past experience, MMOs change course in a heart beat. The past few patches prove that.

No it's not. DAoC is.
I'd take Emain Macha in any shape or form over the Tier shit WAR spews out.
