I'm really getting tired of constantly being told "The Game or Game Guard was modified". It's really ridiculous that I have to uninstall/disable my AV and firewalls. Even after all that I still continue to get this message. I have uninstalled every program to ever conflict with GG. I even opened ports with my router, I'm getting nothing but the same thing. I'm not going to say AION is a bad game, from what I have played it's pretty good, how ever I don't see how dropping money on a game that has special requirements such as the above is even worth it. So my question is, has there been any update as to wtf this error is referring to exactly? I would go to the AION forums and post there. However I can't even make an account there, apparently the forums and game accounts are not synced together.

try reading this thread, seems they fix the problem here
www.aionforums.com/showthread.php
if the fix's there don't work their are a bunch more results on the same issue if you google it.
Appreciate the link, I'll give those a try and report back.
I'm of the opinion, that this game is not worth the effort required to deal with GG. I'd play it, were GG not required, but dealing with that garbage is just more trouble that it's worth.

Nothing in the link relieved the problem. Even though I already had the FW disabled figured I would try and add those files to the accepted file list, still no different (didn't think there would be anyways).
I'm about to give up tbh. Aion is fun, but it's not worth all this. My pc is down to practically a fresh install. Only other programs on it are other games. There is Absolutely no reason nor situation that need to arise from any supplier of computer software that should require such drastic steps from the user as to disable and uninstall other software, worse if it security software.
All games thus far I found in this regard was Plug'nPlay what is wrong with this picture? I think NC Soft is overstepping into an area were they must rather NOT be. NCSoft GET OUT OF THE PC SECURITY FIELD you mess it up.
Open Ports? no go in the doc you mention 7777 and 10241, Please people NEVER do that it open Security holes wereby you can be attacked. Again if this info come from NC Soft they are WRONG, and must not be there.
If NCSofw would only stick to gaming i'd be happy to wait around for them to fix issues, but this is - i duno, freaky
REALLY annoyed

I'm under the impression that they are still down (haven't been able to log in since they went down earlier). So, if they are, then nothing you've done will have worked, until they are back up.
what is down? I can get in the game and play for about 5-10 min then the error pops in the background, lowering my screen. I can either hit "ok" or ignore it. Hitting ok closes the client, and ignoring just delays it for 30 sec at most.
Is their a a number when the error box appears?
also im assuming your not using windows 7 right?
edit: also apparently ncsoft is working on how to fix alot of the issues with GG, its mentioned on their twitter I think, will probably be awhile but at least they are working on it.
Nope, thats the strange thing. It's just reffered to as "GameGuard Error"
Edit: XP is my OS
Is there a reason they are using fucking Twitter? And not releasing updates on the site. Or is the AION site just eye candy where they wont post about problems because it may ward potential customers away?
I found a possible temporary solution, though it is slightly ridiculous and I have no idea if it'll work for you.
uk.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/aion/show_msgs.php
If you are getting this error:
http://www.bushtarion.com/pics/gameguard.jpg
Then here's my temporary solution to at minimum prolong it so you can give the game a bit of a tryout, possibly indefinitely:
* After a few mins of playing the GameGuard message pops up.
* I ignore that and tab back to the game client.
* Within roughly 5 minutes, GameGuard must send a quit instruction to the Aion client.
* An in-game error pops up within the Aion client saying: "An illegal program was detected. Please try again after closing the program.".
* I quickly attacked a creature and ensured I stayed in combat.
* Another in-game client based window pops up very shortly after the first one and says: "Unable to quit while in combat, retrying in 10 seconds"
With the 10 second timer resetting every time I hit a creature.
* I closed the "Unable to quit" message (hit the little X in the top-right). I then closed the "An illegal program was detected" window (little x in the top right).
So the timing of being in combat is very important, as this prevents the in-game client quit process, and stops the whole thing dead.
Nothing else has popped up so far... the GameGuard error window is still open in the background, and I've been playing uninterrupted for 10 minutes so far.
I have no idea if further attempts get made to force-quit the client, but so far I'm happy with 15 minutes of gaming
Beyond that im still looking if anyone or ncsoft come up with a fix for it yet
That's a different problem entirely. I don't get the option to do this. Combat or not, it closes the client. I have had it close on me several times in combat. logged back in, had died, and was back in town.

Theirs plenty of discussion on the problems and updates on their forums, if you make an account.
Also just to double check, you don't use COMMODO Firewall right?
edit: Still looking, it seems most people were able to fix it by switching firewalls, and a few just run the game windowed and ignore the error when it comes up. I guess it could be conflicting with something else installed, but what it is I have no clue yet..
Still looking though >_<

As I said in my original post "However I can't even make an account there, apparently the forums and game accounts are not synced together.". I can't make an account, It just tells me my game login is invalid. Tried both NA and EU. Same crap. So it's apparent they have more problems then just GG, and are using a 3rd party website to report on these.
Edit: No I use windows firewall. also wanted to add i'm not the only person having problems making a forum account, there is an entire thread here some where of people complaining about the same thing.
what are you running that conflicts with gg so badly, i hvae 2 machines (desk and laptop) with 64 bit vista premium and both with norton av an dlocked down ports and windows security set to a decent level and havent had any issues like you are being troubled with. im sure you are having a conflict problem but what on earth are you doing thats causing it =D
Then why don't you point out which program is the problem. Because I can't seem to find the problem.

The problem is most likely gameguard and a shitty implementation of it. If it was you having conflicts with other issues you would be one of few who has this issue, however since it seems like there is quite a lot of players that get this error at times I seriously doubt all of those players have conflicts. It's kinda like the memory leaks for AoC back in the day. My computer was rock stable not a leak at all. Still loads of people had it, and it wasn't because their computer was crap. But because funcom's coding sucked. I suspect the same thing goes here.
The worst thing you can do is shut down all the security stuff to play game, that's like inviting hackers onto your computer :P
Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom
I have Vista64 Home Premium SP2, Norton 2009, more than likely similar settings as you as far as 'windows security' goes. Check your system logs, and you'll see all the fun GG is having with your system behind the scenes. Two of the most notable problems I personally have are; IE 8 will lock up/freeze/crash depending on what site I'm viewing, if GG is running, and my DVD drive will vanish when resuming from sleep, and will only show up after a reboot. Neither issues exist prior to installing Aion/GG.

firefox!
I don't have any of these problems, just installed and it all run fine.
Using XP32, Avast Antivirus and the trusty old McAfee Desktop Firewall v8.5.
Had to add a few new rules and all worked well, never gave me any error-messages.
there can be only one...apparently :P
Then, I don't think this is a problem about software conflict with GG. Since it have actually been a while since the old games using GG have major error reports. Something went wrong, nothing new for a game in pre-launch. Since you also uninstalled just about everything, then it might not be anything on your side that is causing the issue.
Well, it is an OBT. Even for those that pre-ordered, the beta key was a bonus and not what they were paying for when they put the money down.
You also better check your Gameguard folder to see if it is empty. Some reported seeing empty folder after patching to 1.5.0.3
Might need to do clean reinstall if it is empty and see if it work. There are also the deleting GameMon.des file in GG solution posted in forums if you have not tried it. It just make GG repatch itself.
Good luck
