Attention GameStop pre-order customers:
Thank you very much for you purchase of Fallen Earth, we look forward to having you in game. It has been brought to our attention that there is some confusion with the pre-orders through GameStop and early access. We apologize for any confusion but at this time the pre-orders through GameStop are not included in the early access program. The pre-order through GameStop includes a reserved physical copy of the box only. Again, we are sorry for any confusion. For a complete list of all our retailers please go here.

hint: Never ever ever pre order at gamestop. They always manage to fuck something up. Early access, items, whatever. Gamestop will find a way to screwe you over. I have ordered a few games at gamestop and with my experience with them will never pre order from them again.
I would never defend GameStop so please don't consider this post as such but why wouldn't they get early access? Is there a difference between the hard copy and digital copy of the game or is this more of a self-imposed restriction by Icarus?
This sentence is false.
Its the first time ive pre ordered ne thing through gamestop that hasnt gotten the same pre order goodies other games have, do i care.. not particularly. i pre ordered through them because i wanted a hard physical copy of my product. Its just the way i am.
Do i like my special bonus goodies, yes i do but its not the end of the world for me either as i generally get plenty of good stuff with other games.
Waiting For: FF14,Guild Wars2

I don't buy from gamestop on principle. They've demonstrated that they do not value computer games any longer in the vast majority of their stores. Computer games get a small two-sided "cart" in 99% of their stores now. So, it's either D2D, Best Buy or direct from game producer for me.

It's not really their fault, it's purely a business decision. What major retailer doesn't have just a small section for PC games anymore? Look at even Best Buy, most of their stores have cut their PC game stock by more than half in the past 2 years.
PC game sales have been tanking for nearly a decade. Can't expect retailers to spend all that money stocking them if no one is buying them.
Things like this are pretty common actually. Just happened with Champions Online, retail preorders got early access while digital ones didn't. It's all contractual, because stores have physical copies of the game to sell, and it costs them a decent chunk of money to stock them, so they need some extra incentive for people to make the trip and go get it. That way, they're not stuck with a bunch of games they can't make money on just because everyone wants to stay home and get it. With CO, people who wanted to play early made the trip to Walmart, Best Buy or Gamestop.
pc game sales arent tanking. go ask steam and direct2drive or the developers. no need for a physical box anymore. i think the last game i purchased in a store was CoH when it came out. have done digital download ever since.
That's exactly the point.

I understand what you're saying but I think that you are missing my point. First of all, not gaining access to the early start for retail customers is not incentive to purchase a hard copy as you have described. Secondly, there is nothing stopping Icarus from allowing those who pre-ordered from GameStop from joining the head start. Instead, they choose to alienate a certain percentage of their customers that did in fact pre-order based on how they went about it. They could simply open up the head start to all pre-order customers instead of cutting certain ones off at the pass. It's not like they are going to have a huge release with this game so they shouldn't deny anyone that chooses to support them financially at this point.
IMO, this is a bad move by Icarus that could have been avoided.
Also, just a note on retail PC sales...it's really sad when Best Buy and CompUSA have twice as many PC games for sale then the leading so-called game store. I used to manage a mall located GameStop and can tell you from personal experience that they serious couldn't care less about gamers. It's really sad when a generalized store beats out a specialized store...in other words, it's really sad when I have a larger PC gaming selection from the same store that I bought my microwave from than from the "gaming" store. O'well. GameStop will someday go the route of mom & pop video stores and I for one can't wait to see it happen.

Well, my Best Buy continues to have an entire aisle for PC games, for now. So if I decide to go brick and mortar, I'll go there. The Gamestop stores around here (Dallas Area) seem to have trouble hiring employees that don't manage to earn the "Punch in the Mouth" award everytime they open their mouths. At least in the stores that I'm near to.
