Scrolls of Resurrection are for noobs

VultureSkullVultureSkull Member UncommonPosts: 1,774

I stopped playing WoW shortly after Wotlk came out, recently I felt like trying it again, asked my brother for a scroll of res and he sent me one.

I installed WoW classic(4 disks), BC(4 disks) and then WotLK (1 disk) and then patched up to the latest version(1.6gb download) I then went to activate my account with the Res scroll only to be told that it worked on WoW classic accounts only!

Who has a WoW classic account only these days?

So i wasted all that time installing WoW only to be told that i can't use the scroll, why was it not mentioned when my bro applied for the scroll, or even in the email sent to me.  In fact in the email it says:

Please note that you'll need to have The Burning Crusade (as well as World of Warcraft) installed on your computer to experience the expansion content in conjunction with this offer

In my disgust my natural recation was to uninstall WoW, which is the opposite to trying WoW again.

Blizzard can do what they like with their scrolls but at least give us the proper information so that we don't waste our time, ultimately they lose however as i am sure that many who have gone through what i have will just uninstall!

Actually, as mentioned in the e-mail, the scroll will work with Burning Crusade, just not with Wrath, so you went just one step too far with the installation. I know it is sort of "after the horse has bolted" but if you had just activated your account first you could have just downloaded the files direcly which would have saved you a lot of time and hassle.

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

You do realize you only have to install Wrath of the Lich King and it will install all the prior games and patches?

I disagree, it is not what is installed on your computer, but what the state of your account is.

If your account has been upgraded to Woltk then it wont accept re-activitaion.

To prove my point: If it works as you say, then say i have my char in an area in Wotlk(when i last played) and now I only install WoW classic and reactivate my account with the scroll, how will i then access my char that is in Wotlk area?

And going by the message I got when i tried to activate the scroll it will not work with BC, as it specifically said "WoW Classic only".

That was sorta my point in that if you had re-activated your account first rather than installing first, you may have had a clearer view of where you stood from the get go. It is pretty much speculation rather than fact on both our parts then really isn't it as i have never had to use one and as far as i can see you haven't been in touch with Blizz support to ask what the state of play is with your situation and looking at your first post have no intention of doing so??

Ah i see what you mean now, i miss-understood you at first soz.

Blizz have made it clear from the error message i got that it is only meant for WoW classic, there is no point in contacting support as they will just confirm this. I did look on the offical forums and again it was confirmed that it was for classic only.

I do think it started off as an offer for everyone, but Blizz must have changed it for one reason or another.

btw this has no bearing on the game, as the game is the bomb, but just a bit of mis-management on the part of Blizz(by not updating there info on the offer), guess i am not used to them being slack, but they should have made it clear from the get go that the Scrolls are for WoW classic.

I will still come back at some point i guess.
