Hey Everyone,
I am not trying to sway anyone with this thread, having said that I read troll threads almost daily...sometimes every few hours 1 pops up. I understand that many of you dont like the game for whatever reason, I am curious to know what games you prefer over Aion and Why? Ofcourse if your on the fence and arent sure, im curious as to whats keeping you back.
*on a side note* if you are on the fence, the game is currently in open beta, I suggest you give the game a try to about at least level 16 to get a good feel of the game, and perhaps accept or request a few duels..or you can level to 25 and go to the Abyss, however since the game is launching soon I wouldnt recommend going all the way to cap (30).
So far people have not come up with good reasons why the game itself is bad, except for personal preferences. Now personal preference is a good reason why "you" shouldnt play it, however its not a good reason why everyone else shouldnt at least try it.
IMHO mmo's should do two things to be successful:
1) Does Aion work with minimal bugs?
2) Is the Aion gameplay fun for me?
If you answered yes to those questions then Aion is a successful game for you. Remember a game doesnt have to be perfect to play, and alot of peoples posts that troll this game are nit-picking to the extreme.

Any other thing!
currently having fun with FREE DDO, Oblivion and lurking for GW2 news
now: GW2 (11 80s).
Dark Souls 2.
future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
"Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
Remember though that when people decide to play an MMO it usually requires quite a substantial investment of time. People "nit-pick" because they are trying to determine whether or not they really want to spend the *time* on a game that might just flop. On the same note, it is difficult to say "Well I'll invest (*insert however many hours it will take to get to level 25 here*) and then make a decision" because you are making a committment to something that is uncertain. It's just like buying a house. You get a walk through and the realestate agent (fanboyz / NCSoft) tell you it's great.. but you really don't know until you've lived in it for a while. It's a risk to invest in any new MMO, but here is the bottom line.. and it's real cut and dry like you said.
IF you treat an MMO as entertainment for the purpose of having FUN and you are having FUN then play the game.
IF you treat an MMO as entertainment but tend to turn it into work for the purpose of succeeding in the game and want a long-term time sink then either resub to WoW or wait a bit and see if Aion really catches on because right now it's just WoW fanboyz vs. Aion fanboyz vs. callous Ex WoW players
If someone dislikes AION it's because it's not their style of game. People coming from Sandbox's wont like narrow paths (Classes) People coming from their obsession (World of Warcraft) wont enjoy a new release without 5 years of content if their stuck on playing an exact WoW clone. AION is a mixed breed, it's a PvP oriented game but PvP doesn't start really until your in your 20's and doesn't climax until end game. So PvE is the base of the first 20 levels and PvE is a standard WoWisk feel which might shrug people who dislike wow. I hated WoW (It's a great game and makes many people happy, just wasn't for me) but I like PvE in AION, not sure how that works or maybe i'm misinerpreting wowisk pve for lotro or daoc style?
All I know is all MMO's are the same with a different graphical layout and a few altered mechanics, possibly a change in story or way that the story is presented to you.
Aion to me is a win, I have already bought the game and a 3 month sub( I never go 6 months or year on any game, I take it a step at a time Month by Month usually but AION sold me on a 4 month dedication) I enjoy the PvE aspects, it works fluently, I enjoy the story aspects it comes across fantasy and well thought out. I cant comment on PvP from experience but I thouroughly investigate games before devotion and 100 youtube videos later I have a pretty good idea how end game pvp works and im really satisfied. Coming from Darkfall and Age of Conan PvP I'll have to make some alterations in style but all should be well.
(Low-Level Duels dont count as PvP to me)
"Sometimes people say stuff they don''t mean, but more often then that they don''t say things they do mean"
Well if people will not be playing Aion then there is Fallen Earth, JumpGate Evolutuon (which I might try), Global Agenda and Champions Online. If you aren't playing those then pack a lunch because its a decent haul before we get our hands on Guild Wars 2 and The Old Republic.
Nice work. You did little swaying, just a tad of fidgeting perhaps. I'm not sure what you believe a troll is, whether it's any negative comment, or a known troll. In any case, a well said group of reccommendations. I don't think your opinion has to be humble though.
Her are my responses:
1. If you toss out the logging in and server problems (my example: 4 log-ins and 4 crashes Sunday mid-day in 10 minutes), yes I believe it has minimal bugs. And the server stuff has happened to any hame that ever existed, so that's temporary.
2. Early stages no. After more than 15 years and many games, it's more of the same, totally. I reserve judgement on the post leveling and PVP though, could be promising.
As far as nit-picking to the extreme. I would rather have those any day to fluffy stuffy everythings just peachy any day. I think all of us, who at least have played are smart enough to read between the lines, and discount extremes. And I don't discount anyone who has limited playing either, since we all start at 1.

I wasnt trying to advertise anything, I have an issue when players "try" to sway others to play or not play games because of their own personal problems with a game. Im sorry if you feel this was an advertisement. Perhaps you could answer my thread instead of critizing it.

100% agree
I
Although I myself will be getting Aion and playing it for a bit myself, Other MMO's i'm looking into and that might interest you are:
Jumpgate Evolutoin
Global Agenda
Earthrise
Star Wars: The Old Republic
The Secret World
At the moment those are on my list of MMO's that i'm watching out for, You can add Guild Wars 2 if you liked the first ones ( I didn't) and Black Prophecy (kinda interested but not really enough). About it...
Veritas Vos Liberabit- The truth will set you free.
If not Aion what?
For me it's a little game called World of Warcraft, which I enjoy more with every expansion. I tried Aion, the concept is cool angels vs demons and yeah you can fly...but it is so Asianedafied, and I detest, loathed and hate that whole genre. I have no doubt all the Fat guys in salior Moon costumes will dig this one, but it just isn't for me.
Modern Warfare 2 - where the REAL pvp happens
I detest and loath Disneyafied games like WoW. Cant stand Runes of Magic either. Makes me feel like im in candy land.
Game cought my attention for 11 levels.. it's a decent game for what I have seen, but I got finally so fed up of killing little animals and collecting nonsense. Really, MMOs should get rid of that already.
I'm back to good old WOW.
The one thing that puts me off buying Aion... Gameguard... yes, I'm like a broken record...
As level 11 on WoW I was stuck killing little animals and collecting nonsense as well. What's your point?
Jumpgate Evolution is more towards the eve genre which im not a fan of. I am curious to see what global agenda does. Earth rise I dont know much about I may have to do additional research. Star wars as it stands right now will be heavily instances, so if they dont change how they will go about the gameplay i might skip it entirely. As far as the Secret World is concerned, I have lost faith in all things FC. They have proven with almost every release that they arent a quality company. I wonder if Blade & Soul will do any good, it looks very interesting.
pretty much what he said

Although I can see where you are coming from with FC I'm still hoping, "hoping" that the game delivers. I'm still on the fence with AoC. Although I agree it sucks I think the game itself wasn't too bad. A little maintenance would have made the game pretty enjoyable imo.
Another one that I'm not too fond of is Mortal Online. You might like it but it hasn't interested me at all.

dont get me wrong, I enjoyed AOC but I couldnt get into it when it was finally fixed. The game world was so empty playing as a character fresh out of Tortage that it felt like i was playing a single player Witcher spin off. Im more mad at FC because I pre-ordered the game and was very excited for alot of stuff they offered. Mortal Online remidns me too much of Darkfall, which I do not like 1 bit. I really hope Aion pulls through or I will have no choice but to return to wow, and that is a fate i want to avoid.
op for now ,eq2,prob eq1 down the road till THE MASTERS release the art(gw2 pvp masters)

Even if Aion fails which I doubt, I would rather die in a corner then ever go back to WoW. Not only that but I couldn't even if i wanted too. That game is such full of fail now that I'd play for 24 hrs at most before reclosing my account and walking away. If your really burnt out with MMO's you might want to think of going back to console gaming for a bit. I got back into playing Killzone and CoD in the time I spent not playing WoW waiting for the games I listed above.
Idk man. Hope it works out for you. You might want to relook at Jumpgate. Although it's like EVE with the space theme, It's completely different with its game controls. Unlike EVE you can actually fly the ship Yourself. It also has all the MMO favorites like an AH and arena or world pvp. The big selling point of this game for me was here playing the game across 3 screens is just godly IMO. I myself have a setup like that and am DYING to try it out.
But thats just me. GL either way.

It's ironic that you "have an issue" with people that judge the game based on "personal problems" with it, and one of the two criteria you set forth as "acceptable" for judging the game is the definition of individual preference- "Is it fun for me?"
1. Yes it works. That's great and better than most new released MMORPGs recently.
2. No, I don't find being herded through non-stop mob-grinding for 20 levels hitting 2 or 3 abilities to be fun. People keep saying the game suddenly gets great later (after 25), yet most of the people saying this haven't even played the game past level 25. One of the first responses was from someone that bought 4 months of the game without liking the beginning based on the idea that the game really gets awesome at end-game.
As for other games, well, my problem is I've basically played all of the good ones out. Games that are definitely better than Aion (not because of personal preference, but because of content, quality, diversity of gameplay, combat responsiveness and variety, quest quality and variety etc- these things can be quantified and many other games score higher than Aion on all accounts) and I would highly recommend playing if you haven't yet:
WoW
LOTRO
FFXI (although it's pretty ancient by now and they're concentrating on the new one- finding groups nowadays may be difficult)
Unfortunately for me, I've already had my 7+ months fun with all 3 of these. I'm currently playing the new free version of D&D online. It seems decent so far, and hey it's free.

Edit- I don't know why but mmorpg.com replaced my checks with ? so... yeah.
Content- All 3. Reason: for the time each game has been out, the lvl of content is appropriate.
Quality- Aion, LOTR. Reason- For the time we are in the lvl of graphics and engines used for each game is "acceptable" for these 2 games. WoW ......WAS......ok 6 years ago, but times have changed. "But wait Hepisodic! Wrath updated its graphics!" Why thank you WoW fanboi for pointing that out, Blizz's "update" is hardly noticable and IMO still shitty compared to what we want from a game now. So WoW fails in Quality.
Diversity of gameplay- All 3. Reason- Each game has a large group of classes to choose from and a wide world in which to explore and enjoy. [No stop WoW fanboi don't say Aion doesn't have enough classes, mostly every class you find in wow you can find in Aion. With the exception of the (soon to be 4) new class additions Aion is = in player class options. Give aion 5 years and 3 expansions and I'm sure you will see more classes to play with. ]
Combat responsiveness and variety- Just Aion. Reason- WoW's combat responsiveness is utter garbage at this point. BG's and even Arena's still lag like shit when you get more than a few people together spaming the shit out of their spells. Along with Variety? EPIC FAIL for WoW. The same animations have been around for 5 years. Do you know how boring it is to see a rogue Backstab for the 1 sextillith time? LOTR is a carbon-copy of WoW's combat type so no need to go into that. Aion brings a fresh change to normal PVP. Especially for NA and EU players. It's very refreshing for myself and many others.
Quest quality and variety etc- All 3. Reason- No one will argue that all 3 games have great quality quests and quest variety. Some will say Aion doesen't but you can go kill yourself because you people barely played the first 10 lvls let alone capped a toon off so you don't know nor can you say anything about Aion's quests. Some may say that WoW's suck because 95% of the quest are "kill 10 of these; bring me 50 of those; kill 100 of these". Where I'd agree with you out of my pure hatred for the game, Overall WoW's storyline through its quest is very entertaining, So WoW passes. Finally LOTR, many people love the LOTR storyline from the movies, and some from the books. LOTR delivers in its quests as you really feel in the story as you quest. You feel like you are your character and therefor I also pass that.
In Conclusion, as for games better than Aion. The only Game that gets marks across the boards is Aion... So... yeah....
Veritas Vos Liberabit- The truth will set you free.
As level 11 on WoW I was stuck killing little animals and collecting nonsense as well. What's your point?
Listen I don't mean I'm going to WOW to start all over again either. And I wasn't saying that WOW was better in that sense. Just that I'm going back to WOW where I have my higher level chars already.
But since you push me to that, I got to say that levelling the new races in WOW is way ahead of Aion in terms of variety and fun. And even with old races you can start doing RFC dungeon at 13, or even lower, think the minimum is 10.

Exactly. The best thing about Aion is that it's new. It doesn't bring much more than this fresh new feeling. But it's empty inside, like the lifeless pretty dolls that populate it.
