Looking for a netbook to run Everquest

ThoroThoro Member Posts: 56

I wanted if it's possible for a netbook to run everquest? and if so,  what netbook would run it best.  I know it won't run great and they are not built for games.  I have googled it and have gotten some conflicting information.  Thanks in advance.

Yes been playing on and off for 8 years now. I have tried many games but keep coming back to it.  I am just not a tech savvy person.   Is there a system that you would recommend?  I am trying to keep it in the $350-$500 range.  Thanks for the quick responses.

oh men now you get me!

most of the least expensive will probably be xp

but for me to say one is better then the other ,i would go for the newest model for the cheapest price(used to be acer but i heard

competition is getting fierce in that segment since parent dont buy laptop to they kids anymore they buy these netbook)

check review online is my best idea ,it change too often and too fast

one thing tho try to get a model with a very fast ssd drive

ssd harddrive is the futur in computing

one of my friend got 2 x25e from intel in raid men that computer is fast he got a 1k  gig on the side for storage

Might be fine if you don't install any of the expansions.  Once you install expansions the requirements will sky rocket.

Netbooks have either a 945GSE or a GeForce 9300 chipset.  Their processors are also equivalent to P4's.  Depending on the chipset it ranges in performance to a decade old graphics and 5 year old graphics.

I couldn't find any that actually use the nvidia platform yet I keep lookin around cuz I want to see how much they are, do you know of any?

for what it's worth, I had no probs playing WoW on an Acer netbook so I'm sure EQ would run fine, probably even with expansions. I was barely able to play Lotro at lowest settings unless I went into a town, then I'd get 4 fps. The resolution on those netbooks is only like 1024x600 which helps the performance a bit.

lol I also couldn't find any.  They would be the ones based on the ION platform.  In my search however, I did notice a positive trend.  AMD to combat netbooks is releasing just plain cheap laptops.  Entry level is $399 with something that can playback Blu-Ray movies on a 15" monitor.  The price point puts it at the average cost of a netbook.  Netbooks range from $289 - $499.  When it comes to cheap laptop alternatives it would definetly run laps around an atom processor and GMA 945/950 in everything but battery life.

    Acer Aspire Notebook $399.99

Oh, that's pretty good. But yea I heard about those Ion netbooks back in like April and all the reports kept saying they'd be out that spring/summer but nothin has shown up as far as I could find, I'm really excited about them. The 11.2" screen size is what sells me though, you can walk around with those in your palm while using them, very portable and they last ALL day - throw in an actual GPU and it'd be perfect for on the go mmo'ing.

Acer have several netbooks in that pricerange, they make better netbooks than most. They should be able to run EQ as long as they have XP, Vista or W7 as OS, you might want to stay of Vista however since it slows down the computer too much, you don't have the same margins as with a desktop there.

And you can hitch them up with you regular flatscreen when you are home, it sucks only playing on the really small screen. Any gamer with a laptop or a netbook should have a 22" screen, keyboard and mouse home to plug it into :)
