Decisions

Ive been waiting for about 6 Months for a breakthrough MMO game to create a Guild for and lately nothing seems to be surfacing above the rest. I have 3 MMO games in mind but dont want to get a game and buy a subscription and end up hating it. The 3 games are:

1) City of Heroes
2) World of Warcraft
3) The Matrix Online

Ive played 2 MMO games in the past (SWG and Planetside) and it felt like the communites were pretty weak. And Ive heard good and bad things about these 3 games from your forums and reviews.

I would tell you what kind of gamer I am but to be honest I really like any type of PC game. But the most important thing about the game I choose is that it has to have a strong community. I want to be able to create a Guild and have it maintain a strong amount of members for years to come.

So please give me your opinion and try to help me (and others with the same problem) to choose the game thats right for me.

    Out of the 3 you mentioned, i suggest going for World of Warcraft. However if you think you can hold off a bit longer for some of this years early arivals, I suggest you do.

    Well for starters, whichever game you choose, the guild isn't gonna create and maintain itself. It's not up to the community, it's up to you who you ask to join and whether you want them to stay. Whichever game you choose to start your guild in will have cool people and not-cool people, and if your guild fails to be the success story you envision, you'll have no-one but yourself to blame. ::::28::

    Secondly, Matrix Online is the online equivalent of punching yourself in the face until the end of time, and is really best left undiscussed, and I've never played City of Heroes but I hear there's very little to do in it.

    Haha thanks for the suggestion on the guild. I know its not going to run itself Ive run many clans for games like Halo 1 and 2, BF1942 and CS. And I have to say Ive become quite good at it ::::01::

    Alright Ive heard enough negative reviews about the Matrix Online so Ive narrowed it down to CoH and WoW. So please if you have played one or both of these leave a comment about your experience with the gameplay and the community.

    WoW
    Gameplay - somewhat fast paced, not just grinding and killing mobs, but can also do quests, decent community (you'll find a bunch of nice people, a couple idiots), nice graphics, and if you ever short on time...it can still be fun. Casual Gamer.

  • HelmasterHelmaster Member Posts: 15

    Alright that sounds up my ally but I would also like to hear about CoH before I make a decision.

    CoH... to sum it up in one word... shallow...

    actually, i just got an e-mail like 2 days ago from NC telling me that my subscription had just ran out and I believe my response was "meh"...

    seriously... take WoW...

    CoH have one of the best combat in all mmorpg; fast pace with good strategy.  But CoH fall short because there's nothing much to do except kill mobs and doing repetative missions.  WoW is one of the greatest mmorpg so far. Nothing new really, but everything in WoW are done very well.  Combat is very fun and require stretagy to beat some tough eliet bosses.  WoW really shine in the PvP server, because it give you a sense of urgent that some hordes/alliance might be stocking in contested area.  Some quests are very fun, and there are a lot of quests. In the end, WoW will last for only 6 months, and CoH will last for only 3 months, in my opinion.  I just want to know what will WoW do with their big patch to keep the game fun after 6 months?  CoH will have CoV which will have PvP but what else will they have? I really like both game, but I choose WoW.

    Well...

    WoW is the best of the 3 for a guild, however EQ2 is the paradise of guilds!  WoW is a clone of EQ, EQ2 is the evolution completely thinked, designed, dreamed for GUILDS!

    CoH is personnally my favorite, but their are little for guilds there, however it is a great game.  I will try to encourage you to come to CoH, but SG have little beside grouping with each others in the game, you dont need them and you dont have any SG goals atm.  (SG is for super group, guilds in CoH)

    Honestly, if you think of WoW, I rather warn you that it is a remake of EQ with newer graphics and much simpler then plain old EQ, go for EQ2 you wont regret it(as long as you love the guild thing, I left EQ2 because it is to guild oriented).  In WoW, after you reach the level max, you NEED to raid.  Plain and simple.

    I would also like to know why these two are copies of eachother.

    In my opinion, they're basically on the total different ends of the spectrum. Everquest was more of a serious gamer than a casual (WoW) one. WoW can still be fun even if you play for 30mins, but with EQ, you have to wait and wait and wait for a group. In WoW, if you want to solo, then Solo! There are only few selected classes in EQ where you can solo, such as necro or bard. Speaking of bards...I hope Blizzard decides to bring out a new class similar to the bard, thatd be sweet. Other than that, I dont see many similiarity between Everquest and World of Warcraft.

    City of Heroes, for years to come? Well the game is filled with comic-book freaks and grind-maniacs. So if that's the type of people you want, go with CoH... the community is strong for that, and is the reason why I quit cause I'm not a grind-maniac and I'm more or less a comic-book freak (I'm an Otaku. hehe)

    World of Warcraft you just have to try. So many people are dissing WoW's community and that the game is very easy. The game is not THAT easy and the community does suck if you always fall on the wrong person.

    I just find it strange, I've been playing for almost a month now, I only have 1 Level 25 Priest and 1 Level 23 Hunter (With a whole bunch of Level 10's and less characters cause I wanted to try'em all out) and people keep whinning you can reach Level 60 in 1 month. Sheesh, any MMORPG can be maxed if you play 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Get over it, I play regularly and I level at a decent pace.

    And if you wanna form a guild, become the leader! Kick out anyone that seems stupid or doesn't play! Wanna know what kick ass about Guilds in WoW? You can actually monitor EVERY MEMBER'S ACTIVITY!!! In the Guild Member List, it will tell you how much time it has been since they last logged! If you notice a member hasn't logged for 30 days, kick him out, he/she was probably not a serious player to begin with! So you never end up with non-serious players and it's great!

    That Ryzom ad says to not follow the flock. I say follow the flock! Cause if the game sucked, you'd get thousands of complaints. But so far, there's only a couple hundred which isn't much for a MMORPG with so many players it makes games like Everquest 2 look small.

    Both EQ and WoW resolve around raiding.  WoW make all non-raiding stuff easy while EQ just make them worthless and unrewarding.

    Change 4 X 0.25 for a plain 1.00, you still have the same result.

    WoW have less class, less races, less options and complexity then old EQ, but better graphics and faster spawn and a more dynamic world, but basically all the same.

    WoW is a clone of EQ at the Kunark Era, which mean everything but the main course will be easier...so everything but raiding, they make it more dynamic, granted.  In the first expension, expect something similar to Velious...heck, they even start with 60 levels, not 50, not 20, not 25, not 100 or another logical choice, they drop directly on 60, because Afterlife love Kunark and the 60 levels.  60 levels is to send a message to the subconscious:  You love EQ at the era of 60 levels?  You will looooove WoW, trust us!

    Jam on the noobishness aspects of WoW if they matter that much to you, for me the end result matter a lot more, and the end result in WoW is identical to EQ of the Kunark era, everything that is not raiding is worthless.  Simpler, easier, faster, granted, but still worthless.

    EDIT: And Afterlife dont like challenges, they like FARMING endlessly, expect the ''keys'' to be plain pain to earn in the amount of hours, not in the challenge, Afterlife left EQ when it turn challenging with the last expensions, they want endless easy farming...enjoy yours keys, they are coming fast toward WoW, mark my words!  (they didnt do much LDoN or GoD raiding, but keys earning, they did them all)

    Well Im not worried about WoW being similar or "Exactly the same" as Everquest because I have never played EQ and dont plan on it.

    I was just wondering how and in what way the two games were similar.

  • diegofrgcdiegofrgc Member Posts: 451

    EQ= hardcore, power gamers
    WoW= casual, normal players
    CoH= n00bs, casual gamers

    where do you belong?

    The guild system in WoW is pretty nice. I have not played the other games so i can not comment on them, but the community in WoW is decent. Yeah, theres immature players, but hopefully they will leave soon. I've only run into 3 or 4 really annoying people, and thats what /ignore is for. WoW doesn't introduce very many new things, but it excels at what it does have. With the PvP taking shape, plus battlefields with interactive quests such as capturing mounts for your side or assualting a foward base, plus with the promise of siege equipment later on, WoW will get very interesting, very fast.

    Anyways, All i can comment is on WoW,  'cause i have not played other games, and i usually don't like bashing games unlees i've tried them (don't get me started on SWG).

    Long story short, i can highly recommend WoW, because it is the best MMO i've played. And the guild system is cool.

  • HelmasterHelmaster Member Posts: 15

    At this point it seems that WoW is definatly the MMORPG for me. CoH seems like it will have to little of a guild seeking community that I am looking for. And everybody seems to think that MxO will be absolutly horrible so I will stay far away unless I hear otherwise from CGW or PC Gamer.

    Thankyou guys very much for all of your information! ::::01::
