Even WoW itself was not an MMO killer. I don't know of one game that went out of business directly because of the competition WoW placed on it when it came out. If a game ever does come out that will appeal to all gamers to the killing of other games, then we should all worry, because something is in the kool-aid.
Based on the first ten levels (noob zone and some of post-wing questing), Aion is the smoothest-running MMO I've played since CoH, which is a game that boasts the smoothest launch I've ever experienced. Smoother than EQ2, AoC, EVE, Star Wars, TR and LOTRO. Based on how well they've handled the open beta, I'm confident Aion's launch will be as smooth as CoH's.
Aion is also the most graphically impressive MMORPG I've ever played. The graphics are better than AoC's and Aion benchmarks for me at twice the frame-rate in a client one-third the size of AoC. AoC takes a BEAST to run, Aion does not. Aion is shaping up to be the best MMO I've ever played, although I have never played WoW.
The game-play is as engaging as any MMO I've ever played, although AoC has the best combat animation, Aion comes damn close. Although I couldn't possibly care less bout PvP, occasional, forced PvP is something I'm willing to put up with because, so far, Aion is that cool to look at and play.
And when Aion kills WoW, Lotro, AoC, WAR and wipes off the gunk that these MMOS left on its sword you'll be back crying to be let in.
Aion is a very well polished Asian game, that will no doubt do very very well in certian countries....but won't effect WoWs subscriptions at all. I doubt very seriousley it will effect any of those games you mentioned.
This sword here at my side dont act the way it should Keeps calling me its master, but I feel like its slave Hauling me faster and faster to an early, early grave And it howls! it howls like hell!
Aion won't kill WoW. It might hurt WAR and AoC quite abit tho... won't kill those either. Not so sure about LOTR... I don't think it have much impact on it.
Aion is WoW with wings, if it's gonner hurt subs i can see it hurting wow more than AoC.
AoC combat system & eye candy is among the best in any MMO, shame about the other stuff it' not so good , class balance for pvp, end content etc ....
Aion will be popular and it won't be a flash in the pan game either, people will still be playing a year on.
The past few large MMO releases have pulled a LOT of people away from WoW. And 1-3 months later, most were back. I expect this to happen.
Those games weren't polished and had no proper endgame to speak of. None of which is true for Aion.
As polished as it is, it will still happen. Aion comes out this month, and once cat comes out, aion subs in the US/EU will drop down to normal mmo numbers.

There is nowhere to go back to ... will be a year or more until anything big hits anyhow.

WoW killed Asheron's Call 2. The only game to ever close down because another game was released.
To be fair though, AC2 was a pretty horrible game anyway, but when WoW was released a huge portion of the player base quit and went to WoW.
For those that didn't play AC2 it was the first quest based MMO game with quick advancement. It was basically WoW-Lite. And since WoW offered very similar gameplay to AC2 in a better world there was direct competition there and obviously the better game won in the end.

As to what? I'm not being rude or anything, but comparing a game that is number one, to a game like aion that a few people say is number one is on topic, I would think :P.
Anyways, this game will have a large number of players at release, and as I said, 1 to 3 months later many will leave when they find they just don't enjoy it as much as they thought. The first month is critical in holding not only what they have, but gaining more subs.
Look back at War and AoC. Look how their numbers for the first month blew wows numbers out of the water for the first month. If those games could have HELD those numbers, the game would have continued up in subs because friends of people who wish to play together, would have joined also.
Aion might have some asian numbers, and they might have around 500k the first month. But I think the whole asian theme mmo will keep people away, even if they are ignorant of the game itself and how it works. I've played MMOs for years, and know a large number of players. Outside the "MMO Hoppers" (any game that comes along they try, than quit, and go back to their mmo of choice), very few are even thinking about Aion.

Does anyone actually think that any one game will hurt wow? Aion will be another insect upon wow's body but wow won't die until blizzard replaces it. Does not help nothing but crap has been released lately. I have left wow at least 5 times for a few months each time but always come back because my friends and wife still enjoy it.
Aion will definetly NOT destroy aion, it probably won't even dent it much either.
However, games like WAR will be in trouble since it's already on shaky grounds, AOC might be in a bit of trouble too but once that new expansion comes back AOC will be back to where it used to be.

what makes wow impossible to kill is its player base, theyre the brainless zombie masses that follow along with the crowd, they keep telemarketers and door to door pudding salesmen in buisiness. theyre the kind of people who dont vote and dont care, the ones that eat fast food and wonder why they get fat ect ect. no to kill wow yould have to dumb them down even further
Graphics better than aoc. I must be playing a different aion. Mine has mountains that look like water colors and cartoony graphics, and no it is not my pc. I have everything maxed.

I think Aion is the first nail in WOW's coffin. But before ilt's done, Blizzard will strike with next MMO.
Awesome Aion is number 1?!?!?!?
They overcame 11.5 million subs in less than a year? that's epic.
Now you guys will get to use that lame ass "We have more subs so our game must be superior" argument like the WoW fans do.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

It won't chip away at GW2 because no one has a problem shelling out a one time purchase fee for that many hours of game.

Stay on topic please guys.
Lol, it won't kill anything. Five stars for being a positive cheerleader though.
nobody knows!
why?
ncsoft and pvp have done good together in the past
dont believe me !go play guild wars!
so saying this game wont do good when ncsoft has organised in gw some of the biggest tournament
in mmo pvp would be ludicrous!
this game doesnt have the potential by it self to be big
but dont ever forget its ncsoft we talk about!they will probably have tournament in this game etc
a la guild wars!
i dont think ncsoft will release this game and then just let it float on the current!
they will activelly organise something in the futur
NCSoft didn't make guildwars...areanet did. NCSoft just published. So your argument is kinda weak....

hehe lol, its not gonna kill wow.. but we can always hope.. personaly i think it has a very decent chance of taking alot of players from war and aoc.
aion is the best mmo i have tryed so far and i really hope it will be epic win.
But even if Aion does kill WoW, Lotro, AoC, and War you will still be the same pathetic loser you are right now so what exactly is your point?
You don't get extra credit for liking something that someone else accomplished. You only get credit for things that YOU accomplish.
Are you feeling ok Glofish?
/agree.

Yeah what the fish said! Little extreme but ok. Lets go with that.

Aion is a good MMO. I happen to think it is better than most but it is still an MMO and has most of the MMO elements that other games have.
Its more of an RPG than the amusement park MMO feel that WOW puts out.
