I'v always (For the most part) been a huge fan of Jagex and there popular online mmo Runesape. However it seems like a taboo word to most mmo gamers. Why is this? I browsed the forums around here off and on a lot and notice what a lot of people are craving for runescape has.
1. There is no mob grinding.
2. The quests are not repetitive.
3. The staff actually helps you out if you need help.
4. There is a huge amount of things to do ranging from killing monsters, playing mini-games, and player vs player.
5. There is hardly any lag, and a large amount of gamers to team up with.
so can some one actually explain to me why people diss-like the game? And please don't give me no "The graphics suck" because most of you have said in posts that graphics don't matter it is the quality of the game that matters.
Number one reason i think should win anyone over is that it is F2P & P2P. There is no in game scam-mall were you buy items and imbalance the game with. (AKA - Equal opportunity.)
Comments
By equal opportunity I didn't mena F2P and P2P were equal, I sorta missplaced were i should have sayed that. What i mean is that you do not buy items in a cash shop were as other players who have bills to pay can not.
I totaly agree the kids on the game ruin it, but there nto every were. Some people are actually some what matture.
Because the Runescape community consists of -12 year olds. The game is fine. Loved it as a kid. The crafting system back when it was released was great it had an awesome economy. Some decisions along the line have made it a different game to what is was in 2001 but they sell the game to kids they dont cater for adults.
I used to play Runescape, and one of the reasons why I really liked it was because if you wanted to, you did not actually need to concentrate on fighting. There were a lot of crafting options, and instead of fighting, I tried building up my crafting level, particularly in baking and weapon-making. I really did have a good time with them. I didn't really pay attention to the community though... I was more of a lone ranger than anything else.
However, I stopped playing because I got bored with the free worlds, and I wasn't willing to suscribe to it. Especially now that there are other games that have since caught my interest.
Main characters:
Jinn Gone Quiet (Guild Wars)
Princess Pudding (Guild Wars)
LOL, "no mob grinding".
Have you ever tried to level up your combat skills in that game? You kill thousands of the same creatures in the same spot over and over and over. Most other MMOs only have you kill 10-30 at a time as part of a quest.
Runescape's lore is weak, and although the quests aren't repetitive, there are very few of them. If you're only going to make 150 or so quests over 5 years or more, then sure, you better have variety. Other MMOs have hundreds or thousands of quests, so inevitably you're going to see some duplication. Quests are a central part of other MMOs that encourage exploration and introduces you to the lore. Quests in RS are largely unnecessary and are rarely rewarding.
The community in Runecape is juvenile and, for the most part, just absolutely terrible. I've never played another MMO that has the same focus on inter-player thievery and all-around anti-social behavior.
The "game" oftentimes requires you to hang around in one place for hours doing the same thing over and over and over, whether it's crafting something or training your combat skills. What's more, the crafting is purposeless. You have to make 100s of times the amount stuff you, or the community, would or could ever use. And it's carpal-tunnel-inducingly repetitive.
"High-level content" is non-existant, aside from maybe 2 uber-reptitive "bosses" that require countless hours of fighting before you might even have a 0.0005% chance of something worthwhile. Other MMOs have this thing called "end-game content". Runescape has never heard of that.
Jagex claims some mantle of technological innovation that no one else wants or sees much purpose in: best browser MMO. They have chosen and stuck to a platform that is pointless. Even the cheapest computers these days can run most large client MMOs. There is no conceivable reason to constrain yourself to a web browser. It makes no sense. I certainly would never log onto any game, browser or not, on any computer other than my own. Lack of security defeats the purpose of playing anywhere you want, which is what Jagex claims their game offers their customers. Is it any wonder "hacking" accounts is so widespread?
People only really like Runescape until they try something else. Then you say to yourself "what the **** was I thinking?"
While I agree with most of what you say here I can't agree with your last statement that P2P has that much of an advantage over F2P. Over the years I've had several characters in Runescape including 2 that were P2P. Because the F2P and P2P members are segregated buy the servers they play on there is no direct competition between them like in all other F2P games. This means that once you go P2P you are only competing with other P2P characters. This keeps the P2Pers from having any advantage over the F2Pers because even if you have a P2P account nothing you can get there will work on a F2P server. Even if you do P2P you can still only use F2P gear and items on a F2P server.

Yeah totally used to love runescape back when i started playing MMO's, main selling point of the game was that you could seriously do whatever you want and still progress and there were alot of options available for you. In my personal opinion if runescape shifted to an actual client where they could upgrade there graphics and get a new combat system it would be the best game out there, as for people commenting on the community, well i agree there's many 12 year olds on the free side but members it was actually way nicer, again i played awhile ago and am not sure of any changes that have happened.
This post is in the wrong forum. It should be moved to runescape forums. And if youw ant to know why people are malcontent with this game, all you have to do is use the drop down menu on the left side of your screen titled game forums, expand R-S and select runescape.
Their forums are filled with thousands of posts on why people do not like Jagex or this game. In fact Jagex has such poor customer service there is no a goup called the POES ( pissed off ex scapers) that will tell you why.
There is areason this is often listed as one of the worst companies .. go read up . lol
