This site is pretty negative on just about any and eveything to be honest. But yes, more so here than others i've noticed.
Exactly.
This site has really become a haven for trolls, complainers, whiners... anything negative. Sadly, it's rare to see an insightful, positive, informative post here these days.
I find official forums and game specific sites to be much more well-rounded.
Official forums well-rounded? How is that possible? It's created and moderated by the people who profit from the game and full of fan boys! Where do you people come from? Some of us don't like your game. Now, stop trying to influence players with your obvious crap and deal with it.
Not really, I can only think of one company that moderated me on their forums when I said negative things about aspects of the game or areas the game needed to refine.

Most leave it be as long as you don't resort to insults. I actually got into an argument on the forums with a Blizzard mod about the game one time. Kind of cool considering she could have just deleted my posts and not even bothered. I don't just stick to official forums though for insight and gaining others perspective on a game. Maybe saying its well rounded is a stretch but it isn't like you allude to either on most of those boards if you can act civil.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

Or perhaps it is not possible to find overly negative views on fan sites and official boards because moderating zealots delete negative threads/posts, and then ban the posters, in an attempt to create a facade that may have little grounding in truth.
This site suffers no more trolls, haters, fanboys, etc than any other. The difference here, this site has no affiliations to software providers nor is it dedicated to a specific franchise. Provided you refrain from personal attacks, racism and so on you are free to say your piece about any title, good or bad, and this gives voice to those whose posts might otherwise be removed elsewhere.
Anyone who believes they will find unbiased reviews on dedicated fan sites and official boards is either extremely naive or incredibly stupid.

Every minute you play, a single thought comes into your mind, "Damn I love this Game" and were supposed to believe that you could actually see the negatives?
Thats why I like reviews from people who enjoy the game, because they can play long enough to tell me the good and the bad. They see the details that others might not see. I am then able to see the game at its best.
The time spent does not make a good review.
You have to learn to separate facts from opinions and assumptions. Here are some facts from beta gameplay:
1) it's grind 2) it's gear dependant 3) horrible AI - no path prediction, mobs running back to their spot in the middle of the fight 4) generic and unoriginal classes 5) low end graphics with good art 6) no collision detection
From here, there can start a flame about wheter each point is liked and favoured by some person or not but it will not change anything about it, those are facts.
It is important to say that no fact or assetion of fact will tell you how the game plays or whetr it is 'good or bad' since that is sbjective, left to personal preference. This is what biased - in both ways, opinions are for.
I am saying this to warn others that out off all the reviews i have read this site is the only site where i have seen negativity in Aion. If i were you i would watch the podcats provided by NCSoft and try the open beta for yourself
P.S- If anyone says that this game is a standstill game they havent looked into the game at all because Aion actualy encourages people to with movement bonuses. I mean if World Of Warcraft in my opinion is just as stand still as Aion, exept WoW doesnt encourage it like Aion. ex= Moving while using a skill- Forward= 10%attk dmg inc , 10% def decr side to side= 300% evasion, 75% attk decr backwards= 500% defence Inc, 75% attk decr
Welcome to MMORPG.com, where trolls get the upper hand on their alt accounts, and people that point that out get warned.
Anyway, you should take a look at negativity of threads and you'll see it is the norm over here, it's not Aion-exclusive hate, after a while you'll just get used to it and ignore the troll threads. I guess people want some drama at work or something like that.
Yes Gdemami we all know that you hate Aion with varying degrees of having barely played it. Not quite a troll but maybe a vampire that sucks the blood of trolls or something. Always need to pop up and say why you think everything but EVE is terrible.
Yawn, opinions are fine and these are mine says the Cheshire Cat.

It is less gear dependant than most MMOs I have played. To be fair though some classes (tanks) do need to stay current on gear. But that is in all MMOs.
Umm have had none of the things you say about the AI happened to me.
Same classes as all fantasy MMOs but with a few twists.
Best looking game out right now. Have no idea why you would say that.
No collission detection is very true and something I feel the should have put in.
So maybe you do not like fantasy MMOs?

As said, that is not my opinion about the game. Those are facts, something you can't deny but you can make a personal opinion and have personal affection about.

Yeah, and now we all know you are a troll.
Originally posted by Gdemami Don't take me wrong, I am not saying Aion is a bad game, it certainly will have it's audience.
I played a troll in World of Warcraft when I played it. You like to state your own opinions as facts and just because you say that something will have an audience doesn't mean you don't bash on it at every step possible. I don't go on the FFXI forums to bash it. Or CO, or FFXIV.. nor any other that I don't have any interest in and would just try to dissuade people from playing. Weird.
Call me a troll all you want. I call myself a hypocrite every day because I am one. Just don't upgrade from a troll-sucking vampire to a troll any time soon and we'll both be fine and continue to laugh at each other as men behind the curtains.

Umm have had none of the things you say about the AI happened to me.
It happened to us once in a group I was in doing the Tursin area in Elyos with a mob. Other than that one time though I didn't experience it the entire week. So I suppose I can say it's true but extremely rare least from my experince.

Posting negative reviews doesn't mean the people are 'wrong', just means their were elements they didn't enjoy. Many of the comments are quite factual, the early game (1-20) is very quest oriented and linear and some folks don't care for that. Again, they aren't wrong, and there's no reason they can't share that opinion with us. Its up to each person to decide whether the game is something they'd enjoy.
I agree that people are entitled to their opinions and in the end they get to choose whether or not they pay money for the game. However, people are being way too hyper-critical when it comes to all new MMO releases, and especially Aion.
Some people come to these boards to see what games are like from others perspective because they may have not gotten a chance to play in the betas and try it for themselves. When you have people posting ridiculous things such as "just another korean grindfest" or "wow clone" they are putting other people off on the game for no legitimate reason.
Aion is an already successful game in Asia, and it's not hard to predict that it will be successful in the West. There is no opinion there, it's fact. Aion has been winning many rewards at gaming expos, Top Online Game of 2009 and Best MMORPG of PAX most recently at PAX up against stiff competition such as SW:TOR and WOW:Cataclysm.
While I know it is not everyones cup of tea, Aion is here to stay and will be well received by the majority of the MMO community. I also understand that the majority of posters on this forum are people bored of the genre and feel the need to troll every new release, but new people checking out games might not be so informed. This attitude towards new release MMOs needs to stop, or the genre will not continue to grow and will breed an even worse community than it already has.
1st, I think Aion is a great game so far from what I played of it.
Now, I understand its hard to hear other people complain and make some outrageous acusations against the game. However your making some pretty wild claims on your end of the arguement too. I mean WAR was winning awards left and right and look how that game turned out. And becuase the game does well in Asia means it will do well in North America? Hardly...
So before you complain more about people judging this game too harshly, maybe you should tone down your obvious blind love for the game.
Again, I think Aion is great and has ptotential, but I wouldn't claim everyone is wrong and say this game will do great, cause nobody really knows yet.
Umm Podcasts provided by NCSOFT or a fansite would be our unbiased review? lol sorry but no.I would have more faith in the usual vague statements like >>>"Polished" "FUN" "great PVP" "second best game, based solely on subs".
I don't want to get into what i think of the game, all i know is almost every positive review sounds more like a fanbois and the majority of bad reviews are pretty darn close, not all but most. What i have seen is the MAJORITY were already sold on AION before they even knew anything about the game, things like pre orders ,making guilds long before beta, all fanbois stuff.Even at this very moment i have seen players in other games talking about going to play AION and they know nothing about it,they are asking other people what they think lol.
Now to confirm what i just said ,we have a poster telling us to go watch, err listen? to a biased podcast?I know when i hear a legit review because it will go into details and not try to sell itself on whimsical things like subscription numbers ,or the "polish" syndrome.
The best review to date was about a week or two ago some kind posted a video on you tube .It was sort of a comedy type ordeal but the guy did go into lots of detail about playing the game and the controls, basically covered almost everything. He was playing a female character, but i wouldn't be able to find...err lol i found the video in like 30 secs.Watch it i is fun to watch.
He often says "COOL" but he is actually making fun of it's lameness like the cheap way the game does gathering for one example and the lack of swimming, but i think over all he keeps it fun and accurate. He does not come across as biased or unbiased and better yet it is all there for you to see.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
In comparison to the other 2 flops that PlayNC had, Auto Assault and Tabula Rasa this game is not even on par with them.
What you want to ask yourself is what you thought about Guild Wars. Aion is closer to that but with a WOW type engine.
True it is going to have to contend with WOW's expansions and the upcoming Star Trek Online and Star Wars The Old Republic but for fans of this type of fantasy style they will stay with it.
I recommend Aion. But as I said before, if you do not like the Asian style of fantasy this game is not for you. You may want to look into Lord of the Rings Online, Warharmmer Online, or Age of Conan.
PlayNC/NCSoft makes a good fantasy game and I have yet to talk to anyone that has stayed with an NCSoft fantasy game who said they were disappointed in the direction the game went.
""Besides most of the ones really bashing the game really aren't surprising considering some of those same people were bashing the game before they even played it""
I started to bash the game right after i played on chinese beta, and reason I tried the chinese beta was cause I was waiting for this game for 2 years I was waiting for a game that looked so cool and different from other mmos but it wasn't when i tried it. Also the guy saying who is bashing this game is a troll or whatever to me he is the troll actually.
So, since youve played it and now hate it do you think you could really give a long, fair and unbiased review of a game you cant stand to play?
Every minute you play, a single thought comes into your mind, "Damn I hate this Game" and were supposed to believe that you could actually see the positives?
Thats why I like reviews from people who enjoy the game, because they can play long enough to tell me the good and the bad. They see the details that others might not see. I am then able to see the game at its best.
This is really poor logic. For one, you presume that to have anything legitimate to say about something you have to say both good and bad. That is patently false on many levels. Consider a review of a s#$@ sandwich, must someone like some part of it to say it sucked? Some things, particularly for some people, have little positive or so little as to not warrant much mention.
Also, on the one hand you say if you do not like the game you cannot possibly see the good but that is you like the game you can definitely be a solid resource on the negative. That is just terrible thinking and unsupported by reality. Many who dislike a game will see good and bad, others may see all bad, and many mixes in between. Same with people who lie a game, some will see only the good while others see good and bad despite feeling it is overall good.
If you are intelligent about such things then you realize that the conclusions of all reviews are mostly irrelevant from a personal perspective or in terms of how it will appeal or not appeal to you. What is important is to look through reviews and commentaries and pick out the details of game elements and whatnot and then analyze them against your own preferences. For example, guy reviews a movie he loves and talks about how it was so funny how character X told all these dirty jokes that where so funny so I look at that and analyze it verse my dislike of dirty jokes and figure maybe that is a movie I don't want to see. Or a guy reviews a game and talks about how he hates that a game has a overly complex system of skills that is hard to understand and that it is frustrating because it really matters to your characters playstyle the choices you make with skills and I think that actually sounds like something appealing so I am interested to check it out possibly.
The point of reading a review is not to hear whether Johnny likes or dislikes the game but to gather information about the various elements of a game and process those elements through your own preferences and playstyle to see if it seems to fit with what you like. Therefore, good or bad a review can be very informative and I actually find that you often get the most detailed and usable info from bad reviews as it is often easier to describe why something doesn't fit than it is to describe why it does.
no matter what the game is on this forum there will be hate from WoW to darkfall there's always a troll there to basicly stir up some drama.
Awhile back when I joined this site I was looking for something more then WoW seeing how every other game I've played since then just never rose up to my expectations and I tried getting some insight on some up and coming games. First thing that came apparent were the trolls and sometimes it would turn me off to a game cause it was the number of them posting. I can deffenatly understand a new user checking this place out for some info on a game that's about to be released and see the amount of negative posts they just say hell with it I'll just stick with my current MMO til the second coming.
The moment I learned about Aion I knew I wanted to play this game, I knew what to expect and really I'm not disappointed at all. There's allot of potential in this game and I'm glad I'm going to be there at launch. actually head start on the 20th

Let me fix my post back to what I actually said. Thats better. FYI Dont quote me and change my post unless you actually plan on pointing that fact out.
I didnt say time spent makes a good review. Being completely hatorade biased towards a game no matter how much time you spend will completely ruin the review.
People play games BECAUSE OF THE FEATURES. Ever picked up a Game box to see only what the game ISNT?
-This game isnt a FPS
-This game Isnt a RTS
Everything you have mentioned is a lack of a specific feature. The LACK Of a certain feature doesn't ultimately tell me anything about the game.
Consider your best friend knows about a girl thats interested in you.
Friend "Hey I know this hot girl that wants to date you."
You "Oh yeah? Tell me about her".
Friend "Well she doesnt have a job, shes not a good cook, she doesnt ever wash her car."
So this girl sounds like a lazy, disgusting slob. What he didnt tell you is
-Shes hot.
-Shes loaded.
-She doesnt clean or cook because she has a maid and a personal chef.

Changing your quote was the point itself. Poiting out how meaningless and wrong your assumption was.
For the rest, I don't think you understand the difference between fact and personal opinion nor anything I was talking about.
having not gotten to pvp, i can't comment on it really,
i am interested to try pvp in the abyss, however after doing that for a few hours, i'm sure it would be enough and that would be it.
the game is not that good on the mmo side as far as pve and questing it's a big yawn - if people are all thinking it's so great then they have seriously low standards -
there are a few areas that look cool, the player models, and lets face it the female player models in particular are great.
the rest of the mobs and stuff, i could create better models in my first few months using 3D programs, i wouldn't even be proud of that if i made it myself.
the maps and layout really suck honestly, and the mobs are all littered around and areas left with nothing going on, the games world maps are basically onfined and very small, nowhere near MMO size.
Aion is not any more worth paying money for than Heroes of Magic, or Perfect World ect, in fact i think those game are better and are ftp.
Aion is about on par with Perfect World or Shaiya - heck Shaiya is probably better too, at least your grinding different mobs in each area in Aion it's the same basic fluffy, non threatening creatures over and over.
i give it props for having smooth game play, good controls, and the fact that it has what EVERy damn game in this age should have, the ability to hotkey your controls the way you want - i think that was probably the best thing about it - oh, and the boobies.
Posting negative reviews doesn't mean the people are 'wrong', just means their were elements they didn't enjoy. Saying that the game will do well, even great in the West is not fanboyish or obvious blind love. It's easy to see that the game will be successful. Successful on WoWs scale? Definately not. Successful for an MMORPG? Without a doubt. And also, it's not blind love. I've played Aion extensively in the Chinese version, as well as played in all of the CB events / OB event. I do like the game and I do know it has all the makings of a great MMO. It will appeal to enough people to be considered successful. It already has.
This is my rant from another thread, read it at your own risk. Clearly there are others who agree with me.

AND YES IM YELLING OVER THE INTERWEBZ BECAUSE EVERY SINGLE THREAD REVOLVES AROUND DUMB ASS ARGUMENTS WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT GAMES. THIS DOESNT JUST INCLUDE THE AION FORUMS BUT EVERYONE SINGLE ONE.
While reading the threads does, occasionally, bring me some comical relief from time to time, if your looking for honest assesments look elseware.

I had wrote a huge response but its late and I refuse to counter your wall of text with another wall of text.
Were not talking about shit sandwiches. Were talking about mmos. Dont oversimplify.
I didnt realize what I wrote was so outrageous. "Personally" I get more out of reviews where the reviewer is enthusiastic about the game. I think they see more because they are more into it as opposed to someone who played less time and didnt get into the game.
In the same way I could tell you more about something I'm interested in than something I have no interest in.
All of this is of course my opinion.
One last thing, do you carry on discussions in real life the way you did here? When you disagree with your boss do you open with "This is really poor logic" ? or "If you are intelligent..."

Exactly.
This site has really become a haven for trolls, complainers, whiners... anything negative. Sadly, it's rare to see an insightful, positive, informative post here these days.
I find official forums and game specific sites to be much more well-rounded.

Not really, I can only think of one company that moderated me on their forums when I said negative things about aspects of the game or areas the game needed to refine.

3) horrible AI - no path prediction, mobs running back to their spot in the middle of the fight
4) generic and unoriginal classes
5) low end graphics with good art
6) no collision detection
From here, there can start a flame about wheter each point is liked and favoured by some person or not but it will not change anything about it, those are facts.
It is important to say that no fact or assetion of fact will tell you how the game plays or whetr it is 'good or bad' since that is sbjective, left to personal preference. This is what biased - in both ways, opinions are for.
According to http://powerwiki.na.aiononline.com/aion/Combat the correct values for movement modifiers are:
Forward - +10% Magical and Physical Damage, -20% Magical and Physical Defense
Backward - +500 to Block and Parry, -70% Physical Damage and -40% Movement Speed
Left/Right Strafe - +300 to Evasion, -70% Physical Damage and -20% Movement Speed
Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.
It is a grind as are all MMOs
It is less gear dependant than most MMOs I have played. To be fair though some classes (tanks) do need to stay current on gear. But that is in all MMOs.
Umm have had none of the things you say about the AI happened to me.
Same classes as all fantasy MMOs but with a few twists.
Best looking game out right now. Have no idea why you would say that.
No collission detection is very true and something I feel the should have put in.
So maybe you do not like fantasy MMOs?
Kings and Sons of God
Travel on their way from here
Calming restless mobs
Easing all of their, all of their fear
Strange times are here.
As said, that is not my opinion about the game. Those are facts, something you can't deny but you can make a personal opinion and have personal affection about.
Yeah, and now we all know you are a troll.
Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.
It happened to us once in a group I was in doing the Tursin area in Elyos with a mob. Other than that one time though I didn't experience it the entire week. So I suppose I can say it's true but extremely rare least from my experince.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
The word roll is old lets start a new word lets say hmmm... Orc
If you bash the game you're a troll if you defent it you're an orc

This game is a keeper for NCSoft.

I agree that people are entitled to their opinions and in the end they get to choose whether or not they pay money for the game. However, people are being way too hyper-critical when it comes to all new MMO releases, and especially Aion.

Yeah, great! just bury our heads in the sand and fart outside.
in other words, you will continue to act like the pig you are -- somehow I am not surprised.
This is my rant from another thread, read it at your own risk. Clearly there are others who agree with me.
Let me be as clear as possible:
THIS WEBSITE AND IT'S FORUMS ARE THE CESSPOOL OF THE INTERNET AT THE MOMENT.
THE INEPT, THE SOCALLED GAMERS, AND EVERY RETARD WHO MAKES FAILED COMPARISONS BECAUSE THEIR IQ IS LESS THAN 90. BUT HEY ANDY WARHOL HAD A 89 IQ SO YOUR NOT SOL.
And here I thought 4chan was the real cesspool, I stand corrected!

You know whats great about the anonymity of the internet, you get to keep your teeth after your an arrogant ass.
Changing your quote was the point itself. Poiting out how meaningless and wrong your assumption was.
For the rest, I don't think you understand the difference between fact and personal opinion nor anything I was talking about.
lol this is redundant.
My assumption is my opinion and yet you say my opinion is false. That is impossible.
Its my opinion. To me, its not false.
