So I open an email advertising a contest for the Xeno Network Card, and think "Great this will be a great addition to my gaming PC" then reading through it and see the Eligibility Section and my along with millions of others hearts would sink ...
"This contest is only open to residents of North America (US/Canada)"
Do companies not realise that atleast 75% of the members that possibly get this email don't actually live in NA or Canada or even the States? and before any arrogant Patriots get on my back about "how great the US is" ... I wouldnt go there, been and come back from Iraq and Afganistan more times then I care to remember, so I know how much the troops are loving it over there.
But in saying this, they would get more people buying their products if they made the giveaways global cause this would increase worldwide word of mouth. And with the internet being in every corner of the globe ( we still have corners ) word would spread that companies were now making contests globally and would increase marketing and revenue to these companies as they are now gathering a huge audience.
And even though they may be in South Africa, or New Zealand, or some other place, don't you think that when someone in another country receives this item it would do more good then harm as they would be able to speak of its good points and seeing as 80% of people listen to recommendations of friends regarding resturants and bars, pc parts also works the same.
So my question is : Why do companies choose to lose out by not making these competitions available globally as the internet is available from almost anywhere in the world?

You need to under stand laws and jurisdictions when it comes to contests. Also, MMORPG.com sometimes does not have control over who can be eligible if designated by the companies doing the giveaways.

it's not a shot at MMORPG.com ... I read alot of their articles ... i'm just curious as to why the competitions are ony for a small majority of the world ... America is big but not that big that ever single person is subscribing to the website that would denote Bigfoot only giving them away to "locals".
you'd think the marketing dept would find a legal way of being able to allow competitions globally ... online gambling can be done from anywhere in the world.
and custom charges, i got some custom chargest that were almost equal to the damn shippin charges it was absurd.

yeah but its a ive away and the possibility of word of mouth increasing their revenue after the fact that they announce the / a winner in ( your country here ) has won would probly be alot more cause they are opening the opportunity for other competitions and therefore more people will look at the products and possibly buy from them online.
its really just food for thought ... not an argumentative post.
