SGW is dead in it's current form. The development company is bankrupt and it's association with MMOGULS has possible corrupted the name/franchise forever. Unless MGM awards the IP license to a new developer you won't be playing SGW anytime in the next few years.
I gues it was a bad time for them to start something this big as SGW, hopefully some stargate freak gives them a s*** load of money (wishfull thinking lol).
I was so excited to play this now im disapointed, i recently try a new mmorpg called AION but it didnt impress me its way to childish + ITS EXPENSIVE AND PAYED BY MOUNTH. I played the game called KNIGHTS ONLINE and i was happy with it but then i stoped for a while and now i cant remember neither the password neither username orr the email i used to make the account LOL.
I messed around in the beta, it was.....average. It felt like another Tabula Rasa.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
I think Earthrise may be a better choice as it seems to offer more.

I took a look at it and it looks interesting so i applied for beta testing, hopefully they choose me.
Anyway im looking for a good MMO right now since aion didnt impress me so any suggestion would be very helpfull.
yeah, was not that great.....but the CB was not working for me most of the time.
so i didnt get time to test it much

I really hoped this game was going to be amazing. Just like Star Wars Galaxies. Seems to be a lot of failure going around now a days.
That’s just my luck =(
My two favorit Sci-Fi are Dune and Stargate.
Dune: Generation was cancelled due to bankrupt
Stargate looks like it’s going to follow the same path
Headshot me now!
I lived about 2-3 miles from the CME headquarters for 2.5 years while all of this stuff was going down and worked at a QA branch of a major game publisher in the area. I basically had a look at all this from within the game industry. The non-release of this game has been evident for a long time.
Stargate Worlds was never being released as of 2 years ago. Cheyenne Mountain is a new developer trying to rely on a popular IP to sell a AAA game, but they forgot they have to make a game first (classic mistake). Most of the US dev team (I say this because most of the assets of the game were outsourced supposedly to China and other places) have been laid off, and the company is out of money after burning through like 60 million dollars worth of funding (poor investors). A friend of mine knows an ex-employee of Cheyenne Mountain who says they have 1000's of gigs of assets sitting in their database and nothing to do with them.
For future reference, when a game developer starts its own publishing branch to publish its own game under another name to get separate funding its probably because the game is looking pretty bad. When a game with an IP as known as Stargate has to do this, just go ahead and give up hope and save yourself a little time.
I personally was never looking forward to this game, I don't think it is an IP that translates to an MMO very well. Regardless I did not want this game to fail quite so hard, as it only hurts the rest of the gaming industry when a developer/publisher looses so much money invested in the gaming industry especially when a game does not launch. This is only going to make it harder for legitimate companies to get funding for games that actually have a chance of being made.
Interesting. It sounded like a good design to me.
Was it a (presumed) lack of solo content, the combat engine, or something else that put you off?

Seemed to me like the desire to use the Stargate IP was to deal with the "How do we get around and where do we go?" issue of MMO's which stargate covers quite well. You get around with stargates and go to all the wild places stargates take you.
The actual question of "What do we do?" does not seem to really be coverd by the stargate IP. (now I have not watched a TON of the show but have seen some, and the original movie) It seemed in the show not much was accomplished by someone directly using combat, and combat related abilities to solve whatever issue needed to be overcome in a particular episode. It always seemed they accomplished tasks by finding some technicality or having something specific to accomplish a goal, which is fine and all, but not how the game would be. The few in game videos of the people running around and pew pewing on each other with modern firearms did not look distinctly stargate in any way.
I think if an IP is used for a game there should be at least a mold for the game and major game mechanics should be able to be drawn from the IP, and not just take the things from the IP you want, use the name, and build everything else how you want it.
IMO not many IP's are suited to be made into games.
Well said. I agree that suitable IPs for MMOs are limited in number.
In theory at least, the game was supposed to have considerable puzzle-solving aspects to the gameplay. Which (in addition to the IP) is what attracted me to the project.

True true. Not too long ago people wanted to make these kinds of games because they loved games and wanted to make a good game. Now people make these games because they love money.
They forget that the reason the games did so well in years past and made alot of cash is because they set out to be good games.
When will it end? When the trend continues long enough that investors and publishing houses see the pie charts indicate that making a new mmo is going to be a high probability of being a total loss. Once enough failures come out, as is happening all around these days, the evidence and statistics will be too great to ignore when weighed against the potential for making a huge return on investment.
Once that happens then anyone setting out to make an MMO won't be motivated by sheer greed but would set out doing so with the motivation that will deliver for once and be truly worth playing.
Ah who am I kidding, that will never happen. Blizzard will continue on making more money than god with their MMO's for at least the next couple hundred years and that will motivate further generations greedy publishers and unscrupulous devs into spitting out continuous streams of fail until long after everyone reading this thread is long in their grave. I don't suspect we'll ever see an end to it, I'm pretty sure we've gone so far down the wrong path in this genre that's it's irrevocably a lost cause.
Damn shame too of all the IP's to be so utterly poisoned by greed and stupidity they had to take down my favorite. I love to death all things Stargate and would have been in hog heaven with a decent MMO based in that universe to play. Dammit.
